It’s Cologne calling! Germany selected its Eurovision 2025 through the reality music competition Chefsache ESC. Tonight, the remaining nine finalists competed in order to earn the right to represent the country in Basel. At the end of the evening, Abor & Tynna won and will sing “Baller” for Germany. They received 34.9% of the votes.

Following years of earning poor to mediocore rankings on the Eurovision scoreboard, Germany’s TV legend Stefan Raab decided to put an effort into creating a modern analogy to Unser Star für….

After a period of heats in which the contestants performed cover songs, Chefsache heated up last week when the fourteen act left in the competition presented their Eurovision song. A jury of four chose the remaining nine finalists that will compete tonight.

Eurovision wouldn’t be Eurovision without a little drama. Earlier this week, our colleagues at the German Eurovision blog ESC Kompakt reported that the jury will have a large say in the initial phase of the final again. This came as a surprise as it was previously though that the Chefsache final result would fully be determined by the public.

The jury selected a total of five superfinalists from the nine remaining. The jury consisted of Stefan Raab, Conchita Wurst, Nico Santos and Yvonne Catterfeld. In the superfinal, the German public could make the final choice for Germany’s Eurovision 2025 act.

You could watch all drama, action and music live on Germany’s public television station ARD from 20:15. For international viewers can watch the livestream on the official Eurovision channel.

There are a thousand of IDGAF attitudes in the history of music, where songs were, at the same time, well sung. One recent Eurovision example: Damiano.

For those saying Germany would be again in bottom 5; remember last year; many people were also assuming that Germany’s song would not do well.
This song is at least better song than Italy’s boring song

Italys song will be top 5 with juries – and if this girl doesnt improve on her vocals with like 1000 percent, then it will be favourite for 0 points from the juries. We have to be realistic about this.

I think it is very important to note that Tynna was sick on the day of the final and sounded better at the semi final. There is still a lot to be improved, but in my opinion the song itself has a lot of potential.

Destroying a cello on the stage?? Really, Germany? wtf?? At first I thought I saw it wrong, but this is just disrespectful to music and musicians. I don’t care if this is representing the current German-speaking club scene or garage or underground, or whatever…. And even if it was just simulating hitting a musical instrument, it’s not cool. On top of that, the song is monotonous and boring. Zero points. Sorry, Germany, you need to wake up big time. The song is a nonsense.

Indeed Peter, an absolute disgrace to destroy a cello on stage. It was also extremely awkward in the way she took the instrument, smashed it and then started dancing around.

Yes, because no great musicians have ever *gasp* destroyed an instrument on stage hahaa… maybe you should try googling people like Jimi Hendrix or Kurt Cobain. And then maybe you should also google Abor & Tynna and discover that not only are they both classically trained musicians but their father was a cellist with the Vienna Philharmonic… Never mind, you carry on feeling very righteous and all offended on behalf of “music and musicians”… but meanwhile this particular actual classically trained musician loves the song and saw the cello smashing as being a respectful tribute to the spirit of Hendrix… Read more »

Everyone knows these historic moments in rock history, when famous artists smash a guitar as a sacrifice or out of boredom. Maybe the latter is applicable for A&T. For me it lacks connotation.

I notice in the comments here (and many other song discussions) people keep saying “Its a grower”, “I like it more with every listen” – I get what you are saying and even agree on some of them, but it should be remembered that there are many more Eurovision fans out there who only watch the finals and vote from whatever is done that night – so ‘growers’ aren’t going to get the high marks you/we think they should simply because the voters haven’t spent the same time listening to it over and over, learning every detail of the song… Read more »

It is better than what I have come to expect from Germany. And unless they completely mess up their performance they should make a respectable showing.

But I agree, there has not been a compelling act yet. The kind I can’t stop thinking about and go out of my way to listen to.

As someone who speaks German and listens to a lot of their music, this is really the kind of music that is played and listened to in Germany right now. There’s even a touch of german trap on the song. I love it! We have to address that the singer had a cold and sounded off, which she admitted on TV. Watch the semi-final performance ftom last week to get a better idea of her singing. The team now has to elevate this somehow as it’s a bit stale.

Catchy song and I love that it’s in German but my god this performance was a mess. Maybe she was just really nervous or she was having issues with her in-ear because both her vocals and her stage presence were off throughout. I can’t lie, right now this is sitting dead last in my personal rankings but hopefully the performance issues can be fixed by Basel because I would love to see Germany get a decent result for a second year in a row

Not any of the veritable army of young armour-wearing men with embarrassingly dreadful songs who seem to have escaped from the set of Vikings and/or think that they’re medieval warriors? You’re saying this is worse than the tripe that Armenia and Serbia have served up this year? Sorry, just no.

“Baller” might be a grower for me. I like the vibe. The genre is pretty unique in the Eurovision realm. It’s in German and that’s great!!!!

Having watched the performance several times: everything seems to need improvement from vocal to stage presence and choreo and aesthetic.

Abor & Tynna – siblings, what a wonderful thing!!!!!! – should achieve a better result than Germany 20 19. It should not be hard to do so. The song at least is a whole lot better. Viel Glück und Liebe Grüße!!

oooh. that is interesting trivia. so we have the third pair of siblings now this year then – after Ireland (the guy on the keybord is her brother) and Iceland as well. And I believe 2 of the girls in the Latvian band, and 2 of the guys in Ziferblat are siblings as well. So 5 pairs of siblings in total in this years contest.

I think that this song has a good potential and I’m really happy for Germany that they finally send a song that represents their music industry. I think that they just have to revamp it to make it maybe more impactful as I feel like if a part was missing. They should maybe work on the performance again ’cause the singer seemed to be out of breath and the choreography seemed a bit muddled. If all these elements are reunited I’m sure this song could elevate so much. Anyways, I’m really happy for Germany to send a music that represents… Read more »

I decided to compile a study about the presence of national languages at Eurovision 2025, and I am pleased to report that out of the current 25 entries out now, 15 of are in their national language fully (yes including the countries where English is the national language). Six are singing in English where it’s not the national language, and four songs are bilingual (I split them into English + national language and English + other non-national language). National Language: Shqipëria, Australia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Montenegro, Serbia, Spain (15) English (where it’s not… Read more »

That’s a good observation. I expect Portugal, San Marino, France and UK to sing in their national languages too, and there’s a good chance that Croatia or even Sweden (if they choose KAJ) also will. Also Israel is sending a song in Hebrew, English and French, while we know that Czechia is singing in English, and I expect that Austria, Switzerland and Cyprus will do the same. Not a bad year in terms of diversity.

I LOVE that my favorite entry won tonight, already added this song on Spotify. Though studio version misses something – without this live performance of course i wouldn’t be able to compare things, but for now i like the live version A LOT better – especially of this live instrumental that was used, the song sounded richer, if that makes sense. I REALLY HOPE Baller will have a revamp and if so, i hope that these instruments and this ”live band vibe” will be added like it is now in live performance (in last chorus you can hear drums etc).… Read more »

Congratulations Abor & Tynna. I’m surprised that it has taken Germany a while in recent years to send this kind of dance track in German, as one would think this kind of music would be their USP (unique selling point).
However, I object loudly to cello destruction. That’s just too far! 😀

Only when it was announced that Stefan Raab will be responsible for German selection, I knew what to expect… pumping bubble that German selection will be best ever (pumping done, but they were not that “best”) selecting “great songs” and artists… that were not so great (done, done) selecting a song that will achieve nothing in ESC (done) No, no drama. I like the winning song -perhaps not the last place (but who knows), and not the top top 15 either, but from all others I liked it the most. Not with this “staging” (that barely existed).
