Dark, mysterious, upbeat and running on adrenaline — that’s the vibe of Cyprus‘ Eurovision 2025 song from Theo Evan. Its title may be “Shh,” but the song is saying a lot. In fact, the upbeat number teases the identity of an unknown person, who we’ll only discover in May. As the Cypriot delegation told us:
“The song invites listeners to keep a secret. Its lyrics reveal clues that help uncover the truth about who the song is all about without fully exposing it. The final reveal will take place on the Eurovision stage in Basel—but until then, those who figure it out must keep it to themselves. So… Shh.”
The song was co-written by some very well-respected names within the world of Eurovision. You’ll know Dimitris Kontopoulos for countless Greek entries (including Demy’s “This is Love” and Stefania’s “Last Dance”), Elsie Bay (Norway’s MGP), Elke Tiel (Silia Kapis’s “Liar”) and Linda Dale and Lasse Nymann (Eurovision 2024 winner “The Code” from Nemo).
The music video starts with Theo speaking to a masked man in a hotel room. They’re playing some type of game with an occult vibe and Theo eventually storms out of this room and through a portal that takes him to a sandy landscape with even more masked dancers. It all ends with a fire, suggesting destruction or perhaps a cleansing.
Throughout the video we see Theo’s ease with his body. He’s able to bend and throw shapes like a total pro. To do that while also hitting those high notes will no doubt be a challenge, but it seems he is more than up for the task.
About Theo Evan
“Theo Evan started his journey into music and dance from the tender age of 7 when he started dance lessons in Nicosia and joined his school’s choir. He participated in various local talent and theatre shows in Cyprus, gaining a number of awards and distinctions for his performances. With Michael Jackson as his idol, Theo was inspired to develop his creativity and started writing his own songs as a teenager, adopting pop as his main direction and incorporating elements from the genre’s late king into his music and his dance alike.
After his graduation from a leading public school, namely The English School in Nicosia, Theo was empowered by his parents to make his motto of “Never compromise, work hard and follow your dreams – no matter how unattainable they might seem” a reality. In this regard, he moved to the United States to study music and performance at Berklee, one of the most renowned universities for the aforementioned fields, not only in America but internationally. He completed his university studies earlier than expected with distinction, something that did not go unnoticed by his professors, who selected him as an honorary guest at the university’s last three graduation ceremonies among the likes of Justin Timberlake, Missy Elliot, Pharell Williams, John Legend and other notable alumni. After his graduation, he opted to make Los Angeles as the city from which he could chart his own path into music.
“The Wall” the name of his first single was influenced by Reggaeton since it incorporates the musical rhythm of Dembow. Inspired by Stromae, the song’s production makes use of electronic music elements. This was followed by two new releases, namely “Save Me From Myself” and the “Dark Side”, a darker route than his initial single since both songs regard the self-destructive tendencies of today’s mankind and the cry for help that is so crucial for our mental health and wellbeing.
Theo also ventured into the acting world with a brief participation as an extra in HBO’s TV series “Euphoria”, as a stepping stone into this equally creative field.”
Cyprus 2,5/12 – I´m very sick about this kind of songs…
The song is good, but it will go either way. Potentially excellent if performed and staged very well. If it’s great live a defo top 10, anything else it will fail to qualify. One of those songs left hand score board or last in semis. Intreagued who will be behind the mask in the contest itself. Can you imagine if it is someone who is a global icon ?
the only interest to have is for his buttocks
A question what is going on with Georgia?
Answer: I don’t know. I’m still hedging my bets that we will find out on Saturday the same day as France releases their song. It does feel worrying that we don’t know who is even representing Georgia at this point, but once their song drops, it’ll be all right.
That depends on if Louane’s song is better than Georgia’s entry
If this song was chosen by Sweden; juries would give them at least 80-100 points.
But when it represents Cyprus, everyone downscores it.
Stop lying.
Continue to deceive yourself 🙂
Exactly
You’re right, but people don’t usually love Sweden’s entries
As soon as they removed the jury from the semi’s I predicted Eurovision was lost, only the big5 Israel and other countries with a big diaspora can take the risk to send ballads. It’s unfair and boring. Look where we are today so many mediocre bangers. The drop in Europapa made sense, but Austria and Belgium tried to copy the effect but worse… There are no surprises anymore.
Your point is partially valid. Ballads and quality songs may struggle to qualify from the semis (but yes, look at Latvia last year, it Q).
Let’s take this argument to the extreme. If all countries send bops and eurotrash, again 5 or 6 of them won’t qualify. That means only the 10 best bops or eurotrash (or however one may call them) will Q.
It’s not black and white. Juries were rightfully kicked out of the semis to make sure the most popular songs go through.
The very good ones though go through regardless.
I’ve got a feeling that juries will return to the semifinals one day, not this year obviously, but something controversial will happen that will provoke people to say “we need juries back.”
For example Sweden NQ. And there is no incentive for returning countries. I really hope I am wrong but Montenegro may not make it.
The odds are certainly stacked against Montenegro, and I can easily see it being placed in the number two running order, despite the revamp improving the song. It would be the story of the year of Montenegro qualifying for the first time in 10 years, but we also have to be realistic. I’m not anticipating it qualifying at this time.
And we can’t expect the favourable treatment the EBU gave returning Luxembourg last year, they probably have more money and influence than the likes of Montenegro
Luxembourg had the luck of being in the second half last year, and it had the history and success pedigree coming into Eurovision last year. Montenegro has none of that.
Luxembourg had a good song last year. Qualification was deserved (my opinion).
Alright. But it helped getting last starting position AND the performer was interviewed while the voting was going on.
Exactly my point, Latvia qualified because he almost had no competition in his field, with five or six other strong ballads he wouldn’t have qualified, if the jury is back only the best EDM- tracks have a chance, now we have an overload of them.
I don’t understand your point.
Why do you think that with juries in the Semis, the countries who send mediocre songs all of a sudden could create a good ballad, and better than Dons of Latvia?
Last year the ballads of Ramonda and Latvia Dons made it to the Final.
And Luna of Poland with a very big diaspora didn’t qualify.
Only two ballads and Israel of about 35 songs?
Take last year as example, which NQ songs would have qualified and which Q songs would not, if there was a jury, according to you?
Wasn’t Portugal a ballad too?
Yes, Portugal, Ramonda, Israel, Dons, all kind of ballads, went to the Finals.
Maybe with juries only that group of men of Estonia and No Rules of Finland, would be NQ. But I don’t see which 2 other songs would be good enough for the finals instead of them.
Literally last year Portugal, Slovenia and Serbia all qualified with ballads in their native language from THE SAME semi final with only televote.
Faithless-like chorus. No originality.
What do you think about Sweden’s song? I also don’t find it original but everyone overhypes it.
Oh, you are so worried for some reason..
Cringe
I hope he discloses his big secret in the semis already – otherwise we may never know… 🙂
It’s big, that’s for sure.
What is that? Now i am curious:)
Someone here said Eleni.
The door on fire – Fuego – Eleni.
Eleni as a ‘surprise’ cameo.
It still doesn’t make it a good song though,
but many people will love Eleni ofcourse.
I prefer a rule that songwriters, singers, directors should be citizens or at least connected to the country they represent.
Genuine question but do you guys not see how smaller countries will be disadvantaged by this? Let’s make the contest consist of big western countries i guess
Theo Evan is Cypriot
The songwriters aren’t. They are Scandinavian.
Besides the Scandinavian writers, the director is hired from Spain..
I don’t agree. Eurovision should be about cultural diversity especially if you want your song to sound professional so hiring Nordic people makes sense given their songwriting talent.
I rather see a bit less professional song made by local people, than songs overly composed and produced by people hired from different countries.
What about cultural identity?
I highly disagree. Stop these nationalist tendencies!
If you don’t have an association to the country then what point The point of competing under the banner of a particular country? Just have 37 random songs from anywhere and everywhere.
No decent ballad this year.. Switzerland is cute but it’s not a typical ballad.. i hope France will save this year’s contest
Too try-hard and too gimmicky, I too don’t like.
Austria, Cyprus, Belgium etc. I’m noise and light sensitive, I’m pretty sure i can’t watch Eurovision this time, I want the jury back, for a better diversity in songs. This is ruining my Eurovision experience.
I agree. I am impressed with vocals, but those screams are pure noise.
The lyrics strongly hint at the Greek myth of Narcissus. Here’s why: “I’ve got golden locks and eyes so captivating” ? Narcissus was known for his incredible beauty. “I am famous for my beauty, who am I (Shh)” ? His beauty was legendary, and many fell in love with him. “I’ve been told I’m a little overconfident, and this will be my downfall” ? Narcissus was known for his arrogance, rejecting all who loved him. “I fell in deep, I lost my heartbeat” ? This could refer to Narcissus falling in love with his own reflection and wasting away. “Follow… Read more »
And we get the word narcissistic from the name, Narcissus. You might be onto something.
Lets hope Georgia will bring something unique with winner vibes. We dont have any song which deserves to win still.
Last year we had Lithuanian Troye Sivan, now we’ve got Cypriot Troye Sivan. I’m absolutely obsessed with this, the production quality puts this way above the other male dancepop songs this year, straight into my Top 10
Above, I wouldn’t say that.
The production is very dated, it’s giving me headache
“I got a secret you should know” 😉 shh!
Malta and Cyprus serving secrets this year.
Just like the gimmick and secret of Joost last year, that we would see ‘something that we never have seen before’.
That wasn’t Joost but his creative director, he’s a comedian and no one in the Netherlands takes him serious, unfortunately, the press did
The verses are quite cool, and the choruses a hard dance tune. Nice video as well. Wonder how this could convert to a live performance.
Wow there’s like 2 remaining songs and I cant even put together a top 3 this year. What’s up with the quality in 2025!?
That’s the effect of Kaarija, Baby Lasagna and Joost Klein performances… too many joke entries this year (Sweden, Finland, Malta, Estonia, Australia, Ireland). Hopefully next year the trends change, but i am affraid that keeping juries out of semis is one of the reason for this…
They had well-constructed songs with a message and were surprising, this time we have mediocre copies imo. We heard it all before.
It is clearly taking the year off.
Let’s hope that a ballad wins
I’m so sick of Cyprus sending diaspora people who are so far removed from Cypriot culture and it shows in the songs they send. This song is not good. When is the last time Cyprus actually sent an artist from Cyprus?
He is actually from Cyprus for once.
He’s Cypriot
He is born in Nicosia… The last time i checked it was the capital of Cyprus…
He is from Cyprus,
but the songwriters are Scandinavian and the director is hired from Spain. So your feeling may be right.
For me the song and idea feels forced.
He is Cypriot – do your homework
Can we talk about the 21% lead of Sweden in the odds? Everyone commented how they ruined their chances of winning with choosing KAJ.
Well, it’s gone viral in many parts of Europe on Spotify. Mostly in the Nordics, Baltics, central Europe, And had place 138 of new music on the global chart. But does that make it a win for Sweden? But I can’t see no other country has done this so far.
And that has made it nr.1 most viral song in the world at the moment.
Well, some animals are more equal than others.
Nothing to talk about.. it’s just a boring song (but really boring – try to listen to it without seeing the show)… overhyped as always in case of Sweden… i hope ppl are tired of Sweden and wont let them win again… i would even prefer Australia or Malta win (at least their songs are good)
Because juries overload always their darling Sweden and this year that they will get good televoting too , it seems easy task to win.
All very boring and unexciting
Sweden can never please some. Complaints no matter what! Boring and unexciting?? I can think of a lot more that feels like that at the moment. And it’s not the Swedish entry that is the problem.
I like Sweden it’s original and pleasant for the ears, and it makes me happy, is it an outstanding song, no, but I like it better than all the EDM bangers so far.
Thanks but no thanks!
“Putting some pieces together” clearly was the motto when creating this song. I like parts of the lyrics, but I wouldn’t want to listen to the song again. No idea how it will do, it’s not bad.
We’ve nearly got all the songs released but the best entry is still “Espresso Macchiato”…………….what went wrong this year?
It wasn’t even Estonia’s best.
Show me any of the beloved female bops that has received the 83% of the vote which “Espresso” has received, and I will very seriously and respectfully address your claim
I don’t base my own taste on how others vote and I hardly ever enjoy female bops unless they’re Fuego. 🙂
I liked Greece last year
Espresso received 83% of the Estonian vote. Not the European one. We’ll find out in May if the latter is true.
It is.
It is Estonia’s best option.
Estonia has chosen trolls two years in a row.
calling Espresso Macchiato the best entry is a take
Espresso Macchiato may not be the best, it surely is in the top 10 best entries though. And people disagreeing with that are purely in denial.
people can disagree simply because they like other songs more lol
But there is not much around to like. Most songs aren’t listenable.
thats funny when you say Espresso Macchiato is the best entry
Pahaha you can’t be serious?
Wiwi are censoring car names now lol
What an incredible tune, best served with the best electric car in the world
Blasting this absolute tune from my tesla
This is what we get the most of the time when too many different composers work together for a sake of creating ESC song, a total Frankenstein song. It’s like they all composed one smaller part and then just conected them together. Very bad.
I agree, this is actually last year winners effect, copied style, but cheap fake version, Cyprus never won in so many years, Turkey, Greece, Finland and Portugal managed their first victory after long years of participating with very good songs and performances, when will Cyprus ever win and I can say congratulations, but they need to stop this format, watching previous winners and copying them, that won’t work, sorry Cyprus, Greece give you 12 points encouraging you with ones gets low marks not helping you at all
This is literally the first time we send similar to last year winner this is not the problem of us not winning so far.
It’s mostly because we send songs so far away from our culture.
I got a panic attack when I pressed play. And I’m not joking. 🙁
Bad experience in a hotel corridor? I hear ya
I know I’m dead tired, but still…you lost me there, Andy. Sorry.
I assumed you started to watch the video, saw Theo trying to escape from a hotel corridor, which then triggered a panic attack when you remembered a bad time in a hotel corridor. No? Just me?
Haha what are you talking about? Spill it!
I… I didn’t even register a hotel…and I ain’t going back to it. No way.
Yes, it’s dark energies.
I thought this year we got rid of all those demons, devils, witches and face masks of last year, and then this.
I don’t mind it being dark, but sonically it was triggering… This will be my toilet break. Sorry, Theo.
This song is like Gemma Collins. You either love it or hate it.
Not worth the hype though, in my humble opinion.
I could,d never live Gemma Collins . I’m vegetarian .
It’s such a weird year. I think the song which make top 5 in both jury and televote will win. It might be a surprise like in 2011
At this point even Slovenia can win 🙂
Cyprus 4,5/12
It’s not bad, it’s contemporary, but I am not impressed. After the first listen, to be honest, I did not want to listen to it again.
Not my cup of tea. He may dance well but the song itself is a bit messy (and at times annoying).
Plus, it struck me that it’s like The Code remixed (at some points, I could even sing The Code and that matched the song).
Good luck, Cyprus!
What an annoying song!
Meh. It’s noisy and lacks any heart or soul. Cyprus has been going for style rather than substance in the past years; at least Silia Kapsis had some charm last year which this, to me, doesn’t.
Don’t forget Andromache. Amazing song, but the live performance was underwhelming.
Ela… My fav from that year.
it will qualify but i am predicting 21st to 26th in the GF
She ain’t no whistleblower girlll..!
The song is meh unfortunately
Also, he really like tank tops. I don’t think he has anything else in his wardrobe.
I bought a tank top once. Forgive me
you could just borrow one from Theo
Any News from georgia?
they have withdrawn
the beginning is really cool and interesting. I like the instrumental, but the chorus drags it down for me. I could see this growing on me. I don’t think it’s as bad as people say.
Waiting almost to deadline for this…? Wasted time
So disappointed with my country this year. This is sooo NOT cypriot. It’s too noisy and too scandinavian. And we are Mediterranean. I hope the Cybc will remember this one day soon.
Scandinavian, nope. Noisy and a bit annoying, yes. CYBC must change the approach to Eurovision.
Stop it! Pop and EDM are for everyone!
Off topic but Have Georgia forgotten to organise an entry?!?
like where are they? you haven’t heard anything from them
I think the Georgian Dream didn’t finish yet their casting for the dream representative…:)
I’m not sure about the song but if this was a trailer for a new series, I would definitely watch it! A very intriguing video and storyline.
I would call it squid game 😉
Musically, it’s probably as polished as his reflection, but lyrically, it’s giving Disney prince with an Instagram following.
The opening to the song is very Nemo 24 but it then mutates imo to Faithless Insomnia. I kept waiting for ” I can’t get no sleep” lyric. This is not a critizism as i do like this song. It is going to be interesting were this song is placed as it is in the same half as Belgium so comparisons there as well. Cant wait for the hidden secret or is Fuego to obvious.
Sorry but meh.
Again Scandinavian songwriters. It’s every year the same with Cyprus. Don’t they have any talented songwriters themselves? It feels very unauthentic.
This is the successor to Sandro’s Running 2020, but much more ambitious. I think with good staging this could qualify.
Yeah, that’s what it reminded me of, but much more boosted.
Qualify? Yes. But that hyped to be Top-10 in odds. That’s odd (pun intended).
Except Sandro’s song was good. This is not.
I don’t know how I feel about this and that’s probably the worst thing I could say. I don’t see it qualifying.
