Spain’s Eurovision 2025 representative, Melody, has been keeping busy since her victory at Benidorm Fest in early February. From dazzling at glamorous events like the Goya Awards and the Drag Queen Gala at the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Carnival to preparing for the big stage in Basel, she’s been making every moment count.
Now, after weeks of anticipation, the wait is finally over — RTVE has unveiled the revamped version of “Esa Diva”, which Melody will perform at Eurovision this May. With a more international sound and a brand new music video, this updated take is ready for your playlists.
Melody – “Esa Diva” (Spain Eurovision 2025)
The new version of “Esa Diva” builds on a refreshed musical foundation while staying true to its original melody. Its more vibrant production steadily builds towards a high-energy climax, giving the song a renewed dynamism. This time, the production is led by EIGHTY4 and Rick Parkhouse & George Tizzard of Red Triangle Records, shifting away from the original work of Thomas G:son & Peter Boström. Known for their collaborations with Måneskin and Camila Cabello, Rick and George bring a fresh international edge to the track.
Meanwhile, Guillem Vila Borràs has reimagined the song’s introduction, adding a classic Spanish flare and captivating touch right from the start.
As RTVE explains, the goal behind Melody’s revamped version is to create a more international sound without losing the essence of her Benidorm Fest performance. Melody herself believes the updated “Esa Diva” is even stronger, both melodically and vocally, and with these changes, they’ve taken the song’s potential to new heights.
“The intro feels more personal, more intimate for each listener,” she said. Regarding the song’s finale, she adds, “We go all out, breaking through with full energy while staying true to ourselves, maintaining that essence that defines us.”
Make sure to pay attention to the official video. Spain’s Head of Delegation, Ana María Bordas, has revealed that the Eurovision staging will take the performance even further, closely aligned with the music video to ensure “continuity with everything we’ve done so far.”
Melody’s Eurovision team has also changed
New version, new squad.
Melody’s artistic and dance team have undergone a major transformation ahead of Eurovision. Mario Ruiz, who directed the official video for “Esa Diva,” now takes charge of her artistic direction, replacing Pizarro Studio, the creative force behind her Benidorm Fest performance.
The dance team has also evolved, shifting from an all-male lineup to a mixed ensemble. New dancers Álex Bullón, Vicky Gómez, and Ana Acosta have joined the crew, as they also feature in her just premiered official video. However, this change also means saying goodbye to Hrisio Busarov, Daniel Arango, and Jesús Bolívar, who were part of Melody’s winning performance at Benidorm Fest.
While all three have shown support for Melody and the new team, they recently expressed disappointment on social media over being left out of the final lineup.
What do you think of the revamped “Esa Diva”? Could this version help Spain achieve its best Eurovision result yet? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
She’s a good and charismatic singer, I’m not sure about the beat, I like the song better without, it’s less forced, but good job.
I really didn’t care for the original version of this song, ranking it around 25th place in my original ranking, but since the revamp, its shot up to my top 10.
So much more power. Its instantaneous. Still a generic pop song, but one that is catchy enough and one that’s received a huge glow up.
“Esa Diva” is a really entertaining and catchy song that’s there for us to have fun with. It also has something I really like in songwriting: an Extended Chorus. So, the main memorable part of the Chorus (“una diva es valiente”) is actually in its bar 9 after the Chorus already dropped 8 bars earlier. 80s/90s dance tracks used to do this all the time, and I miss that style. But I digress… Do I like the revamp? Yes and No. I personally prefer to hear the nostalgia in the song with the older synth sounds, but at the same… Read more »
This is a recrap instead of a revamp. It was crap, and non it is even more crap. Bottom 5, Spain has to be grateful (again) to be free of semifinals. The worst song of the year by far
I think the worst song is Italy and Sweeden, it’s a matter of taste!
Or lack of.
I mean… WHAAT?!
The revamp is a huge improvement. Originally I had Spain in my bottom 10, but now it is in my Top 3.
Claro que sí guapi
Of course ??
Sounds like a random song from 1999 Thalia’s soap opera soundtrack.
True. 90’s generic pop. Not bad but not something to be crazy about (not at all).
Why is the majority of European fandom so toxic and has treated Spanish artists so poorly for decades? Stop hiding behind a screen to bring out the worst in you and go outside and soak up the sun.
amen
Look, it’s a contest. And Eurofans have the right to judge the entries. Unfortunately, the entries are the songs and the artists along with everything in between (vocals, staging, performance, overall attitude). Spain has a huge music industry. And everyone wants good Spanish music with a Eurovision twist.Chanel nailed it. Almost everything and everyone before and after her are mediocre. We don’t judge the artists for their art. It’s a contest and we talk about the entries. Some artists shine, others not. Chanel shined (is that correct English? I wonder). Last year, it was another disaster song. Plus most songs… Read more »
Blanca Paloma mediocre? And just afterwards you say “we judge artists for their art”??
I can understand some of the things you’re talking about, but why is it treated so poorly? I don’t understand it. I’m half a century old and I can speak with knowledge. For example, my country has never won Eurovision, but I’ve never read such unpleasant comments as I can read about Spain on many platforms. In my opinion, there are many countries that send much more mediocre songs to ESC every year than the Spanish ones, and those aren’t treated as badly, in my opinion.
It‘s still a cliché-packed Schlager, I‘m sorry.
Love La Amante de la Luna so much, but Esa Diva leaves me cold.
It‘s pity, because she definately is a great singer and performer.
Hate for this is so forced. Just as it is for Croatia this year. Like… stop.
Nice! Reminds me of Ed Sheeran’s Bad Habits. They have the same kind of beat.
Why all this negative comments?, what do they want ? all the songs to sound like a 20 second clip from Tik Tok?, the revamped version is great! I love it. Don’t know why people are saying this old fashioned. She can sing , she can dance, she can deliver. And Melody will slay. Best of luck with a great song from Spain this year!
She can sing, she can dance, she can deliver. Fair enough.
That does not mean it will score high in the final because, yes, dozens of others artists can sing, can dance, can deliver.
The song comes first and the song is not bad but a bit dated and unexciting, too familiar.
Songs that are unexpected in a way (vocals, performance, song, staging) do well in Eurovision. That’s a rule.
We really should reconsider the true values of ESC and its purpose. Is it normal that Sweden is top 1 in betting and simulations, featuring something so widely seen in ESC—a geeky song with bad vocals, a pitiful staging, and a melody that seems to have come from a Glasgow club where everyone is happily drunk and singing along? Not only Sweden, but this year I could list countless other truly pitiful, uninnovative entries from countries from which more is expected and yet they are in the top 10. I don’t understand where ESC is going to fall. I’m thankful… Read more »
Such as? Which countries do you mean?, I’m trying to understand you, de verdad. Personally I like Sweden’s song its original and it makes me happy.
This is even better… suited for a Zara or Bershka store 😀
More like PepCo
I love to read all the bad coments of all the music producers in this chat.
And from non big 5 countries. See you in the final..or not! hahaha
Maybe it’s just me, but isn’t a revamp meant to improve the song?
Now I am just left missing the energic Eurodance feel the original gave and now have to come to terms with this.
Was the “revamp” really needed?
Meh… the usual 21st place
First version is much better. With revamp, song lost soul.
Definitely your opinion. I didn’t like the original. I love the revamp.
I preferred the original. Spain this year reminds me a little of Malta 2022: The female performer with a “name” (sort of) took the trophy ahead of a male singer with a much, much better song and performance. ‘Ritmu’ for Malta, ‘V.I.P.’ for Spain. I pray that I will never be the kind of homosexual who puts hoes before bros…
Still crying because VIP didn’t win?… Man, your last sentence IS quite ridiculous.
I’m still crying ‘cos Ritmu didn’t win: V.I.P. is a fresh wound. As for the final sentence, lets not pretend that anyone other than bitter, middle aged gay men who fear/don’t like other men voted for this abomination!
Bitter, middle aged gays men Who fear other men? Just because they did not vote for JKBello??
No, not “just because” though nice try at straw-manning.
It’s a bit like arguing that the sky is blue: anyone who’s ever been around more than one gay man knows the kind of “yaaaassss kweeeeeen” person that I’m talking about. Lets not waste time pretending that you don’t.
Ozma – Please take some time to reflect on your comment.
Bitter middle aged men? ‘yassss kweeeeeen?
WTF?
These kind of homphobic comments should not be tolerated here or anywhere.
Grow up and stop projecting your bitterness and hate.
Aren’t we allowed to have opinions like being team Melody with OG version to win Benidorm and anti-Melody revamp version that is overall terrible and OG version needs to be brought back as is for ESC, loved by many like me?! Who suggested the mindless change to begin with?! Show me the anti-music haters!
JKBello just couldn‘t sing live. Period.
It‘s a good studio track, though.
Melody..wonderful…incredible..fantastic from Italy.Do not care about the haters that only spread bad words and critics.Do what you do It IS always sh…..Vamos españa
Melody wonderful, incredible. ABSOLUTE YES. Rightful WINNER! “Revamp” song…HELL NO! Majority of REAL fans loved OG version! Nothing wrong with it from start! Needs to come back! Noone can support this that will do worse at ESC vs OG brought back! Why change when it’s loved by many including Spain that won Benidorm?!
I am not sure the revamp can save it. Its not bad but its so generic and mediocre.
still to bad
Much better than the original, but still dosne’t worth to even explain why and how. It’s still a circus act, too much going on stage, overdramatic singer. Spain is not trying hard enough.
But if you haven’t seen her performance on stage of this new version yet… How do you know there is too much going onstage? Are you a seer? Can you also see and share the Euromillion combination, please?
For me this revamp is a big improvement! But I do wonder: is a revamp fair? To the other Benidorm Fest contestants and to the Spanish voters? They’ve competed against / voted for a different song (or version of it).
People voted for Melody rather than for the song. Maybe if there would have been a big contendant or another very strong song, this may have not been fair. But it has not been the case this year.
If she had presented the song as It is now with the revamp she would have won by a landslide and no other contestant of Benidorm Fest would have had any chance at all. So yes, It is fair for the other contestants that she did the revamp afterwards.
I mean Chanel had a revamp too.
It is fair. Even Chanel revamped Slomo.
The heavy slap bass and the dirty synths have taken this song to a whole other level. My winner this year since Benidorm Fest, my favourite track this year. LOVE IT
A whole other level of BAD! It NEVER should’ve been changed. The slap bass and synth ruin the song whole that had the edm beats and the spanish guitar. Giving Besa 2024 again. Rightful winner and fav track needs to bring back OG version! The REAL Esa Diva for ESC!
It’s ok for you to be wrong sometimes, I forgive you
I’m torn! I loved the camp charm of the original, but I do also love a revamp. As long as she keeps the helicopter hair spin I’ll be happy
I don’t think the revamp would improve the final score, But…. I really appreciate that the Swedish tempo is gone. Too much the same as “Hero” in 2008. 17 years ago!!!
Ohh i loved that song
It does not sound so dated now. Still, it is a song I do not like, but it’s better. Another good point is that Melody has truly a very good voice, also life, so that may bring jury points.
not my kind of music its still a meh song to me
It is a better remix than the original. I assume as in the video they are keeping the body/guitar swing at the end of the song for the Eurovision stage.
No eres, y NUNCA serás Gloria Trevi, Olga Tanon. Que les pasa a los espanoles copiando a divas mexicanas? Y si no les parece revienten.
Gloria Trevi? And who the hell knows that one in Europe? Lol
And if they did know it – it is a dicey comparison to make, at best.
yeah, right! like everyone knows Melody XD
Gloria Trevi was that singer who was in prison?
YESSSS <3
No, por suerte no irá a la carcel como la Fontana de Trevi esa que no conoce ni Diós en Europa jajaja
nadie conoce a Melody tampoco hahaha
Revienta tu, bonita!
Jamás escuché a Gloria Trevi hasta que cantó con Nebulossa el año pasado. No sé qué música hace. En cualquier caso, todos los cantantes se rap, rock, soul, reguetón… tienen parecidos dentro de sus propios estilos, porque cada estilo tiene sus normas.
This version is way better than their NF’s version. It’s really catchy now.
Spain should just own it and make this the most Spanish thing ever at Eurovision, kinda like they did with Chanel and her matador outfit. I believe that would get them alot of points
In my opinion the original version was not only full of (cheap) clichés of what foreigners think that sounds Spanish but also It relied too much on those elements (which for me as Spanish was really poor and simple. It was like “any country’s pretending to sound latin” kind of song). Now those elements have been wrapped Up in other sounds, they are still there but they are not the main element which is both good and makes the song sound more REAL Spanish that the original version.
Y’all have no idea of what “Spain” sounds like, this is literally a cheap copy of some of the more relevant Mexican pop divas. This reworked product is everything but authentic Spanish XD
I think your are kinda drunk. And trust me, from experience, I can tell…
Huge improvement for me. This was right near the bottom of my rankings but I much prefer it. My one worry is that you’re still fighting an uphill battle to get out of the 20-26 mark in the grand final itself.
I can’t see it escaping a bottom finish. It probably would’ve been smarter to just own the original version and go all in. Spain’s best choice was DeTeresa by miles imo.
I loved Deteresa’s performance but be serious, It was much more forseeable that DeTeresa ended Up bottom 5.
I am serious. It was by far the best for me. Both song and performance wise.
We were used to hear the first version that’s why it got mixed reactions but it’s only an eurofans thing, the general audience will only hear the revamped version in Eurovision. This version is less camp but more modern, it’s a choice and for me it works so I can see it ending on the left side of the scoreboard. Good luck Melody!
It’s so solid and well produced yet predictable and doesn’t have the “X factor” in it….. How is this ranked higher than the true originality and creativity (Croatia) or a pop perfection (Belgium)? People’s ears and eyes are too lazy nowadays and can only digest what is instant, rather than something that needs 10 seconds of attention.
I think it depends on individual taste. In my opinion, the Belgian singer has one of the worst live performances of this edition. He sings terribly, and the creativity that you think he has from Croatia—in my opinion, you tune out after 10 seconds—is very unpleasant to the ears.
I didn’t like the song at all but I kinda love it now.
Same! I thought will tank, but I am not sure now, especially if it gets a good running order.
Out of a disney movie
I think the ones that liked it a lot (with the so-called “has-been vibe”) are disappointed and the ones who disliked it likes it now ^^
So I don’t know if the song gained or lost fans, or is this is a numerical statu quo haha
If it’s dropped from someone’s 1st to 5th, it’s almost certainly lost votes
If it’s gone from someones 25th all the way up to 10th maybe, it’s probably still not gained any actual votes.
So a net loss
Like it, they have ridden off the old sound of 2000s.
Nevertheless I believe the strength of this entry relies on the live performance. I believe she is so hardworking and a perfectionist and she will do everything to get as many points as she can.
Was one of my favourites, not a fan of the remix at all
