Who is Justyna Steczkowska?

This isn’t Justyna Steczkowska’s first time at Eurovision. The reason why fans are so utterly thrilled to see her is this is the thirtieth anniversary since she first appeared at the contest in 1995. The singer from Rzeszów competed for Poland in Dublin with the song “Sama”, a much more low-key affair. Justyna came 18th in the contest, but the performance lived in fans hearts thereafter. She went on to have a huge career in her home country, having released 13 albums.

This also isn’t her first attempt at coming back to the contest. Last year she was a huge favourite among fans to go for Poland with her mystical anthem Witch Tarahoro. It wasn’t chosen in the end, something that was discussed heavily on social media, with Justyna only missing out by one point in the internal selection, to Luna.

This year she came back with a huge number, with copious dancing and staging tricks. The performance was simply unforgettable with many viewers being desperate for Justyna to be victorious. She smashed the competition, getting 39.32% of the voting share, which equated to over 10,000 votes more than the 2nd placer. We’re thrilled she is coming to LEP, let’s do this!

Has the EBU already commented on the self-plagiarism in the song – the 10-second fragment taken from the chorus of last year’s entry?

This is an amazing song and performance. All the ingredients are there to be in the top 3. Or is this even a dark horse for the victory? Would be awesome if Poland would win for the first time.

I loved her in 1995, and this year she has one of the finest entries.
