Belgium is bringing a lot to Eurovision 2025 in Basel: an electro-pop party, flawless high notes, and an electrifying Wonderland world, all captured in a song. In fewer words, Belgium is sending Red Sebastian with “Strobe Lights.”

The blend of electronic pop and house music in the song is something entirely new for Belgium at Eurovision, aiming to recreate the atmosphere of a rave club party. Even more impressive is the number of high notes Sebastian flawlessly delivered during Belgium’s national final, Eurosong 2025—notes he’s ready to bring to the big Eurovision stage this spring.

The song comes with a music video where Sebastian, a shy corporate worker, meets his alter ego in an elevator—the vibrant personality that sets the tone for the party in his life and those around him. Red is his signature color, dominating the visuals of the music video. But now, let’s dive into the lyrics and explore the flashing meanings behind this song.

Belgium at Eurovision 2025: Red Sebastian with “Strobe Lights”

Red Sebastian competed in Belgium’s national selection, Eurosong 2025, together with seven other contestants. After getting 132 points from the jury, Sebastian also received 291 points from the public vote, winning with a landslide total of 423 points.

Red Sebastian, or Seppe Herreman, hails from Ostend, Belgium, and has been passionate about music since early childhood. At just 14 years old, he captured the hearts of the Belgian public when he participated in Belgium’s Got Talent in 2013.

He is a rising artist who studied Pop Vocals at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent in Belgium, where he was taught by Gustaph (Belgium, 2023). Developing his own unique style, he blends pop music with electronic and soulful elements. In 2024, he competed in The World Sing Again, once again leaving a lasting impression.

What do the “Strobe Lights” lyrics mean?

“Strobe Lights” might just become one of your favourite Eurovision party anthems. The song is an ode to rave culture, drawing inspiration from the energetic sounds of the ‘90s. In an interview with Rémi for EAQ, Red Sebastian revealed that the song captures the essence of a flashy night out—though this isn’t just any ordinary night out, as so much unfolds in the experience.

First of all we should discuss about the theme of love, about falling in love on the dancefloor, as Red Sebastian has some lines suggesting that an upcoming romantic experience is developing. This connection forms by getting lost in the other person’s eyes rather than with words, obviously due to the loud music. When the romantic feeling strikes, the whole world takes on a cotton candy pink glow, and a sense of weightlessness sets in:

“Strobe lights, getting lost in your eyes
Cotton candy haze, floating up in space
(…)
Where no words are needed to feel the connection”

Even though Red Sebastian’s name is inspired by the crab from The Little Mermaid, in “Strobe Lights,” the night transforms into a journey to Wonderland—much like Alice’s incredible adventure. Everything around fades away, turning into a magical maze of lights, dance, and love, where reality blurs into an electrifying dream.

“Falling where up is down
Screaming but won’t make a sound
Alice, show me your hand
Take it to wonderland
(…)
Step into the mirror to bright new dimensions
(…)
Come down through the looking glass”

The concept of time vanishes—or rather, it feels as if the clock has stopped. The moment is too good to be true, creating an irresistible urge to stay in it forever—dancing under the strobe lights with loved ones, feeling like the best version of yourself:

“Where clocks never tick and where love is the ending
(…)
Skin-tight, never felt so alive
Caught up in this maze
It’s where I wanna stay”

“Strobe Lights” lyrics — Red Sebastian (Belgium Eurovision 2025)

Songwriters: Ameerah A. Roelants, Billie Bentein, Seppe Herreman (Red Sebastian), Willem Vanderstichele

Strobe lights, getting lost in your eyes
Cotton candy haze, floating up in space

Falling where up is down
Screaming but won’t make a sound
Alice, show me your hand
Take it to wonderland

Step into the mirror to bright new dimensions
Where no words are needed to feel the connection
Where clocks never tick and where love is the ending
Come down through the looking glass

Strobe lights, getting lost in your eyes
Cotton candy haze, we’ll float around in space
Skin-tight, never felt so alive
Caught up in this maze
It’s where I wanna stay

Flying deep underground
Silence never felt so loud

Step into the mirror to bright new dimensions
Where no words are needed to feel the connection
Where clocks never tick and where love is the ending
Come down through the looking glass

Strobe lights, getting lost in your eyes
Cotton candy haze, we’ll float around in space
Skin-tight, I feel so alive
Caught up in this maze
It’s where I wanna stay

That’s where I wanna stay
That’s where I wanna ѕtаy

I don’t understand the odds for Belgium. Can’t see it anywhere close to TOP 15 in such a strong year.

One of my personal favourites, but another NQ would not surprise. Perhaps a little too “niche”.

Well, just based on the fact that the we will get the “Strongest winner” since Måneskin. (no matter if its austria, sweden, france, ukraine or netherlands) The overall quality – maybe weaker than last year!
