Slovenia at Eurovision 2025: Klemen with “How Much Time Do We Have Left”

Klemen won EMA this year after being selected by a jury as one of the two acts to make it to the superfinal. From that point, the power was in the public’s hands, and the audience chose Klemen as their winner.

Klemen hails from Brežice, a small town in Slovenia near the border with Croatia. He began his career at Radio Energy, a radio station in the town of Krško, which is close to his hometown. After hosting events in Brežice and its surrounding areas, Klemen Slakonja caught the attention of Slovenian radio icon Sašo Hribar, who invited him in 2007 to join Radio Ga Ga, the first channel of National Slovenian Radio. Sašo was impressed by Klemen’s parodies and encouraged him to use his sharp sarcasm to mock and impersonate Slovenian politicians and celebrities. This opportunity marked a breakthrough moment in his career. That same year, he made his first TV appearance on RTS’s show Hri-bar, also hosted by Sašo Hribar, where he parodied Slovenian singers. Following his success with impersonations, Klemen expanded into music, and his debut album is currently on the way.

His Eurovision song is dedicated to his wife, the renowned Slovenian actress Mojca Fatur. The couple married in 2011 and have two children together.

What do the “How Much Time Do We Have Left” lyrics mean?

“How Much Time Do We Have Left” is an open letter from Klemen to his wife, Mojca. The song reflects the emotional journey they experienced when she was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome, a rare and serious form of cancer. It poignantly expresses Klemen’s fear of losing her, while also celebrating the incredible strength and resilience Mojca displayed as she fought to overcome the illness.

The lyrics begin at the moment when Klemen and Mojca received the heartbreaking news of her diagnosis. The song captures the intense fear, anxiety, and the overwhelming emotional weight of that moment. It also reflects the difficulty they faced in keeping this devastating news from their young son, who was too little to understand the gravity of the situation.

Our baby boy
Was crawling in the living room
You read a diagnosis
It said that you’d be dying soon
(…)
Our little child had the biggest smile
While we couldn’t do nothing but cry

This moment marks an awakening for Klemen, where he begins to reflect deeply on time—on the fear of losing his wife and the terrifying thought that their time together may be running out. In his live performances, this sense of emotional turmoil is palpable, as he portrays the feeling of his world turning upside down. He is left feeling powerless, unable to do anything but ask himself:

How much time do we have left together
We never know
All I know is I don’t want to be here
Without your love

The song continues with a powerful imagery of a man in white, a doctor, in a room filled with diplomas, trying to convince Mojca to give up the fight. The doctor suggests that her struggle is futile, implying that she wouldn’t be able to overcome the illness.

However, the lyrics take a powerful turn with the line, “But you were always determined to try,” which reveals that, despite the doctor’s words, Mojca never once considered giving up.

A man in white
With a room full of diplomas
Trying to get it right
Could put you under hypnosis
By saying to give up the fight

The bridge of the song is incredibly emotional, as Klemen speaks about his wife taking a leap into the sky. This imagery symbolises both her proximity to heaven and the journey into an unknown and uncertain land. However, instead of succumbing to the darkness, she grew wings, learned to fly, and eventually fell back into his arms. This powerful metaphor expresses how Mojca learned to navigate the unfamiliar and unfortunate circumstances of her illness, despite being given little hope by others.

Through sheer determination and strength, she overcame the illness that nobody thought she could conquer, and in the end, found herself safe in Klemen’s embrace. The lyrics are filled with deep admiration for her resilience and courage:

I admire your power
I admire your will
The way you never gave up
Until you grew wings
And you learned how to fly
Made a loop in the sky
You landed right into my arms

“How Much Time Do We Have Left” lyrics — Klemen (Slovenia Eurovision 2025)

Songwriter (music and lyrics): Klemen Slakonja

Our baby boy
Was crawling in the living room
You read a diagnosis
It said that you’d be dying soon
It was a sunny day
Through the window
There were people going on their ways
Our little child had the biggest smile
While we couldn’t do nothing but cry

How much time do we have left together
We never know
All I know is I don’t want to be here
Without your love
How much time do we have left together
We never know
We never know
Wish we could take it slow

A man in white
With a room full of diplomas
Trying to get it right
Could put you under hypnosis
By saying to give up the fight
But you were always determined to try

How much time do we have left together
We never know
All I know is I don’t want to be here
Without your love
How much time do we have left together
We never know
We never know
But we keep standing strong

I admire your power
I admire your will
You made me question the world
You made me question what’s real
I admire your power
I admire your will
Your ability to heal

I admire your power
I admire your will
The way you never gave up
Until you grew wings
And you learned how to fly
Made a loop in the sky
You landed right into my arms

How much time do we have left together
We never know
All I know is I don’t want to be here
Without your love
How much time do we have left together
We never know
We never know
Wish we could tаke it ѕlow

I’m beginning to get the feeling that this might do well. It’s in such contrast to the Diva deluge and not even Scott Mills will make jokes about a lad who nearly lost his wife

He’s a terrible singer and this still sounds like a parody of some sort.

It’s a very sweet song. Even though Slovenia tends to rank on the lower end of people’s tops, I’m sure Slovenia can be proud of this entry and it’s genuineness.
