Klemen – “How Much Time Do We Have Left” (Slovenia Eurovision 2025)

Review: Klemen – “How Much Time Do We Have Left”

Antranig: Let’s start with the positives — Slovenia’s song is lyrically beautiful and tells an incredibly relatable story that will no doubt pull on heartstrings across Europe. Unfortunately, the song just never goes anywhere musically, becoming far too repetitive and dragging on for three minutes. While this could’ve potentially packed a punch with juries, I don’t see it having any chance in a televote-only semi-final format. I have to commend Slovenia for the positives of the song, but unfortunately it’s dead on arrival in Basel.

     Score: 4.5

Tom: There is a lot of crazy this year. This is the opposite. “How Much Time Do We Have Left” is a heart-breaking song that puts life into perspective. Klemen sings honestly about his wife’s illness, giving us all a reality check that time is fleeting, and we don’t know how much time we have left with the ones we love. I appreciate that we have songs like this in Eurovision mixed in with the big and bold. A lovely stripped back track, allowing us all to reflect on, and be grateful for, what we have. I hope this qualifies.

     Score: 6

William: Klemen’s emotional journey with his wife was life-changing for both of them. That he wants to honour her through song is beautiful. And while the emotion is heartfelt and the voice strong, I can’t help but think the song’s strengths — its purity and simplicity — are precisely what will make it tough to stand out. The song’s sparse production makes it feel somehow less finished than the other entries in the field (and not even singing upside down can plug that hole).

     Score: 2.5

Ruxandra: It’s not about charts, winning, or anything else, but this song, for me, has a message that truly resonated. Klemen has incredible vocal control; I would say his live performance sounds just like the audio version, but that wouldn’t be entirely accurate. It starts like the audio version, but by the end of the song, it becomes so emotionally powerful. I love the lyrics, not just because it’s a personal story, but because they make you stop for a moment, think, and reconsider some things you might take for granted. Not gonna lie, if you listen to this at the right time, it can definitely bring some tears to your eyes.

It’s paunfully amazing how sucha serious topic can sound like a parody and is flat out laughable in parts.

I think Klemen will surprise and qualify. He’s a calm and sweet interlude in a semi full of intensity. I feel like he’s like Dons from last year – sincere and low key, but will cut through.

Dons was a vocal powerhouse. Klemen is not.

Cue the Black Mamba’s “Time Is On My Side” (Portugal 2021). The reviews here were just as brutal; and yet, it qualified 4th (5th in the televote) in the second semi, and ultimately finished 12th.

After my second of 3 evaluations, Klemen at the moment is my number 10. I think he will qualify, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he has plenty of room to spare.

The one positive aspect of this song is its originality. I don’t think there has been an ESC song quite like this one before. (I also don’t know of any other song that uses the word “diagnosis” as a lyric set to music.) However, I think this song suffers from three big mismatches, as follows: Mismatch 1: In my opinion, the music does not match the power of the personal story. The melody of the Chorus doesn’t resonate with me, and the harmony is pretty much static throughout. I get that the song is supposed to be warm and comforting… Read more »

“How much time do we have left?” Answer zero. It’s high risk bringing something as personal and high stakes into a Eurovision setting, but this has backfired, sadly.

I don’t have strong feelings about this. At first I thought it’s a nice song with nice meaning behind it. I like it when I’m listening to it but I don’t search for it

15th place: Slovenia: So I guess I have it way higher than everyone else here. I understand that it’s a pretty average and middle-of-the-road ballad but at the same time I can’t help but feel touched by it, maybe because of the phase of my life I am in. I totally agree with Kosey that when a song just hits you in the face with its message without being more abstract and open to interpretations, it loses a lot of artistic points in my eyes. Yet again this one surprisingly touches me. They need to keep the staging minimal of… Read more »

I always feel bad when somebody makes a really heartfelt touching song about difficult personal struggles and then know it’s going to absolutely tank at Eurovision and get minimal response.

Slovenia – The only reason I have this song above Croatia is that the theme absolutely resonates with me, and I can actually listen to it all the way through. Cancer’s a bastard, we all know that. While I can listen to this one, it’s just such a drag that I feel (ok it’s more I *know* but I’ll be nice) that it’s a song that’ll be dead on arrival. All I’ll say is I wish Klemen luck. 3/10

SLOVENIA – Ever since I saw Klemen hosting EMA, and listened to his brilliant parody songs, I wanted him to go to Eurovision. He’s such a talented, charismatic man, and with the right song, he could bring Slovenia to their first top 10 result in years. The issue is that this might not be that song. How Much Time Do We Have Left is in its core a sincere and sentimental ballad that expresses Klemen’s love for his wife, and his gratitude that she has survived through a tough illness. The message is heartwarming and worthy of respect. The lyrics… Read more »

37. Slovenia – Klemen – How much time do we have left – 2/10 – I like tracks with nuance and this song has about as much nuance as a sledgehammer. When you use words like “diagnosis” in a song then you lose any sense of fantasy, escapism or space for the listener to inject interpretation, you might as well sing the hospital discharge sheet. The musical arrangement and melody also feels very simple and predictable. All in all I feel uncomfortable and bored listening to this song, which is not a good combination.

I feel refreshed listening to this song in comparison with much of the rest of this year’s class. I think others will too.

Objectively the worst song of the year, no amount of singing upside down can distract from the dullness of this song. The amateurish composition is Iceland 2018 level bad. Not even Thomas G:son could revamp this into something listenable. 0/10. I won’t be watching this perform again – Surely that won’t be an issue on Saturday anyway. Slovenia, please convince your skilled composers to do EMA again because this is just sad.

Give me a break, the worst song of the year? How on earth you can hear every entry this year, yet consider this the worst song just beggars belief. It’s one of the most heartfelt, touching ballads this year and woefully underrated.
