Are we crowning him our champion? Read on to find out!

Princ – “Mila” (Serbia Eurovision 2025)

Review: Princ – “Mila”

Jonathan: Don’t get me wrong, I love a good Balkan ballad. But “Mila” is missing some of the heart that previous additions to the genre have brought. Princ delivers a solid vocal performance, yet I find myself drifting off at various points and failing to connect with the storytelling. The soft instrumental bridge kills the song completely, ensuring many will have tuned out before the song ramps up at the two-minute mark. In the end, it’s a song that fades into the background.

     Score: 5

Lucy: This song is powerful for sure, with Princ’s big vocals. However, I feel it would have been more at home at Eurovision 2006. We’ve stepped back in time to when this song would’ve thrived but then dragged it into 2025 kicking and screaming, and it doesn’t quite work. And that’s not because it’s a Balkan ballad, we’ve had excellent examples of modern entries, and completely timeless ones in recent years. This is just incredibly dated, from the melody to Princ’s stage presence and body language in the song — it just isn’t going to succeed at Eurovision 2025.

     Score: 2

Ruxandra: I think Serbians have a unique way with ballads. There’s this authentic sound that I really love—it’s not necessarily traditional, but it’s distinctively the “Serbian ballad style.” The vocals are well-executed, and the lyrics are great; it’s a story, and he really pulls me into it. However, while I enjoy it, it doesn’t feel entirely new. It gives me the impression of similarity with some past songs. As for the staging, it definitely needs more work. The props look a bit… handmade, let’s say. And the acrobat came out of nowhere, I can’t quite understand why they included that. So I really hope for a better staging at Eurovision.

     Score: 8.5

Deban: The Prince of Vranje may have a degree in philology, but his tongue isn’t working any magic on “Mila”. Overdone in parts, and at the same time undercooked, this year’s Serbian entry is languid at best. Stefan Zdravković’s handsome looks and baritone voice would have gone much further with a stronger musical composition. As it stands, he reads like a Chippendale in distress.

     Score: 4

I understand people don’t like the song for whatever reason but what really pisses me off is the “dated” bandwagon everyone is on. I want someone to explain me what is dated about this song. I can give you some examples what dated can also mean: half naked women singing about something generic like body positivity, diva power and so on and it’s not just dated it’s so overdone Opera parts in ballads Joke acts that pretend to be serious Fem boys singing about whatever, it’s just important that they are fem Songs with hidden political agenda There you go,… Read more »

This is not for me, but I doubt it’s for Serbians either unless they like outdated music.

Rare is the balkan ballad I really like. Last one was Montenegro 2014 I think. Bosnia 2006 and 2011 were really good too. It’s just not for me, nothing against them.

This one is no exception. Decent, but certainly I can connect with it.

He must be one of the best male vocalist of this year… even if you’re not into ballads or Balkan ballads, this score is too harsh imo.

SERBIA – After a streak of three amazing entries since 2022, my Eastern neighbors have left me quite indifferent towards their new offering. Mila is a traditional Balkan ballad with a pretty melody and solid instrumental backing that by all means should work well. Princ is more than a capable performer, and he hits the notes every time. The reason why I see many list this song in their bottom 5 is that it’s dated. I never saw much point in highlighting that, as what’s modern today might become dated in ten years. Does it mean that good music has… Read more »

Dull, cheesy, but also undercooked that not ever the last 40 seconds or so manage to save it.

12th place: Serbia: I believe this song has got overhated for no reason. It may not be the most impactful Balkan Ballad at Eurovision ever, but I find it really good. Being a fan of the genre also helps. Princ gives a really nice interpretation of the song and the melody is really nice. The revamp added more musical depth to it and I like its orchestration. I may have preferred the recent alternative entries we got from Serbia but I like this one as well (certainly way more than Montenegro who is the most similar in style from this… Read more »

a cheesy eurovision ballad is everything the juries ask for. past record shows that they can do very well (as did bridges, proud, etc.). so unless they make it too cheesy, like putting an interpreter dancer spinning him, he should be fine and maybe even finish in the top 10

Serbia – I don’t mind this song at all, but I feel like Princ’s voice is the main reason why I can listen to the song the whole way through. I think that being the penultimate song in SF2 could potentially mean it can qualify, but overall I feel as if it will get lost quite easily among the bigger songs. 4.5/10

This is meh, it could qualify given it is performing perhaps on the best spot of the semifinal, but also given the political background and the political mess the Serbian national selection was, for the sake of Eurovision let’s leave it on the semifinal

31. Serbia – Princ – Mila – 4.5/10 – this type of song is not my thing at all, the piano and strings do not stir any emotional reaction in me and it does feellike music by numbers. A small elevation in score is granted by Princ’s delivery in the chorus, which demonstrates a slightly interesting fragility but it is not engaging enough to make me want to listen to it more than once.

Mila is an actual name in English, but it actually translates from Serbian as “Dear”. That’s the only interesting part of this song; the rest is just a “no” from me. (Okay fine, I’ll try to review it bit more, but please don’t read my review if you like this song.) I normally like Balkan ballads when they have good development and pure beauty, but this one just bores me. Princ’s vocal is superb throughout, but the problem I have with this song is its lack of development. It plods along in a slow 4/4 and its emotional melodies keep… Read more »

The serbian downfall is so sad, this is the same country that has sent Teya Dora, Luke Black and Konstrakta in recent years

More like the rebirth of the Serbia that seemed long gone. If they managed to scrape through to the final with the horrible performance that Luke Black gave, they surely must make it with Princ as well. And Princ won’t steal the place of a quality song like Aija.

I feel this is very underrated. This is just as excellent of a balkan ballad than others before it, and with a strong visual and delivery, it could find its way in the final. Not to be discounted at all.

I love this beautiful song very much and it deserves much more than the jury’s gave to him. It’s ome of my favorites.

Maybe if it had been the best of a bad bunch we could root for it, but there were so many better options! Good luck to him, but it’s not a good song 🙁

I do feel it was the best of a pretty weak selection. And it’s less of a surprise if you consider Princ won the public vote on a very strong 2023 edition.

Agree with you. Could not disagree with Lucy more. Dismissing a song by saying it is dated is itself dated. Don’t we all enjoy dated music these days? I think it will succeed.

The trend is towards nostalgic not dated music. There is a difference.

Some people have hard time to understand the difference between dated and timeless I think…ballads are rarely dated, they are timeless, a pop song or other following the trends of the year will be outdated the year after, not the case with timeless ballads.
Wiwi jurors are not the target for this kind of songs though.

Agree with you on this Pablo, and I don’t think it matters if it people think it is dated. In my book that is a good thing in this case. The build at the end reminds me of Molitva. Top six.

I love this one now. It must have been revamped because I remember being bored with every single song while pulling through the Serbian NF entries. Simple revamps can do wonders. Love the instrumental, love Princ’s voice. In a year with not a whole lot of musical quality (to put it nicely), that’s enough to put this fairly average but still refined ballad into my top 5. Plus he’s by far the best looking artist of this year and it’s not even close. I’m rooting for Serbia.
