“I want the end of the world” – Abor & Tynna are sick of broken hearts in the “Baller” lyrics

Abor & Tynna will represent Germany at Eurovision 2025 with the song “Baller“. The siblings from Austria bring us an upbeat electronic pop song about the end of a relationship.

Germany at Eurovision 2025: Abor & Tynna with “Baller”

Germany placed this year’s selection in the hands of the successful past. Stefan Raab, who discovered Lena in 2010, was back in control of the German selection process, titled Chefsache ESC 2025 – Wer singt für Deutschland?

In the grand final, Abor & Tynna were among the five artists out of nine who advanced to the superfinal based on a jury vote. The second round was determined solely by the televote, where they secured an impressive 34.9%, winning the show.

What do the “Baller” lyrics mean?

After winning Chefsache ESC, Tynna gave an insight into the lyrics of “Baller” and clarified it is about a breakup she went through last summer. After writing a couple of sad songs together with her brother, she wanted to change things up and had had enough of feeling sad. The most notable lines are within the chorus and also the first lines of the song:

“I shoot holes into the night
Stars fall and bang on my roof
It still hurts a little when I see you again, 
But I’ll never come back, no matter what you say”

The word “Baller” has many meanings in German depending on the context. Many times, it’s an informal translation for “to shoot,” but in a music context, it’s also used for a song that “slaps.”

In a Reel on their Instagram, both confirmed that the English saying “Shoot for the stars” was the main inspiration behind the song’s lyrics, which is the only English line in the song too. They also wanted to produce a song that slaps (ballert) – and they definitely did that!

“Chalk silhouettes on the sidewalk
A crime scene between us, like on CSI
You said “I’m sorry baby” for the first time
Should have known then, that was the end of us“

The song uses strong metaphors of violence, destruction, and rebirth to illustrate the emotional turmoil Tynna felt during the breakup, even comparing the situation to a crime scene. A feeling of being treated the wrong way for a long time and releasing those emotions in an instant, similar to a weapon shooting. 

“I get that urge again
I want the end of the world
Hah, I think that’s it
I shoot for the stars“

While other songs on their album deal with regrets, self-reflection and sadness, “Baller” releases emotions through aggression, whether by partying, escapism, or destruction. The end of the relationship may be the end of the world, but if you have nothing left to lose, nothing stops you from shooting for the stars. Moving on might hurt a lot, but it is necessary to be back in control.
