Iceland is ready to join the game with an uplifting song that will definitely make you smile, bringing incredible energy to the stage with VÆB and their song “RÓA.” They are all set to conquer the stage in Basel for Eurovision 2025.
As always, Iceland selected their Eurovision representatives through their national selection, Söngvakeppnin. The result was without a doubt, as VÆB won both the jury vote and the televote.

1. They are brothers
Abor and Tynna from Germany are not the only siblings in this year’s Eurovision. Iceland also has a pair of siblings: Hálfdán Helgi Matthíasson (born June 4, 2003) and Matthías Davíð Matthíasson (born December 7, 2004).
2. They competed in Söngvakeppnin before
Before their victory this year, the siblings had a previous participation in 2024 with the song “Bíómynd.” They made it to the final and finished in fourth place.
3. They fundraised for Ukraine
Since the war started in Ukraine, the siblings have been actively trying to help with fundraising efforts. Alongside 5miinust, the Estonian band that competed in 2023, they joined ESC Gabe’s Livestream for a fundraising event. During the stream, they played Eurovision trivia, ranked Icelandic entries, did karaoke, and reviewed fan art. By the end of the stream, around $4,000 had been donated.
4. Hálfdán has a tattoo inspired by a cartoon
He has a tattoo on his leg of the mouse from the Itchy & Scratchy Show (a parody version of Tom and Jerry). He showed the tattoo on his personal Instagram page.
5. They prefer music in Icelandic
Speaking about their music taste, the siblings expressed that they primarily listen to Icelandic rap and Icelandic pop music, with a bit of Eminem on top of that.
6. They are a VIBE
For sure, you can tell from their performances, interviews, and uplifting personalities. But actually, their duo name, VÆB, is pronounced as VIBE.
7. Their parents are music teachers
Their father, Matthías, is an organist, saxophone teacher, and choir director, while their mother, Aslaug, is a singer and vocal coach.
8. They both play music instruments
The siblings learned how to play instruments from a very early age. Matthías plays the trumpet, while Hálfdán plays the drums.
9. As a child, Hálfdán won a music show
Back in 2015, when he was only 12, Hálfdán won The Christmas Star, one of the most famous Icelandic televised children’s singing competition shows.
10. They became popular on TikTok
TikTok is the platform that helped the siblings grow, as they went viral with various videos, covers, and personal music. This gained them popularity, which later supported their music careers.
