She has travelled across Europe to showcase her “La poupée monte le son” to Eurovision fans. We are of course talking about Luxembourg’s Laura Thorn! She has given us a bridge between a Eurovision classic and a modern pop anthem.

1. Laura Thorn grew up playing piano and cello
Yes, another cello player joined the Eurovision 2025 cast. Next to Germany’s Abor and Ukraine’s Ziferblat twin brothers, Laura Thorn also started her music career as a cellist as well as a pianist, as she told RTL.
2. She also had dancing lessons
Growing up, next to getting her fair share of musical lessons, her evenings were also packed full with dance lessons. Her parents definitely had a thing for extracurricular activities as she told Luxembourgish newspaper Le Quotidien.
3. She earned a double master’s degree at IMEP in Namur, Belgium
After finishing school, she decided to continue her studies in the Belgian city of Namur at the IMEP college. Across the border, she received a double degree in music teaching and pop singing. She said in numerous interviews that she initially did not want to get a degree in singing but eventually went ahead as her institution told her to do so.
4. She ended up on the Luxembourg Song Contest through a recommendation
Laura Thorn told RTL in an interview that she ended up on the Luxembourg Song Contest – Luxembourg’s Eurovision selection – by somewhat of an accident. One of her former teachers in Namur recommended her to a Parisian producer. That certain producer then invited her via SMS to audition for a song he wanted to send to the Luxembourgish selection. And the rest is history!
5. Laura is a music teacher
In daily life, Laura still works as a music teacher. She teaches at the Esch-sur-Alzette Conservatoire and also teaches children music. In between winning the Luxembourgish national final and Eurovision, she went back to the classroom. About combining Eurovision and her career, Laura Thorn said to wiwibloggs’ Tomas Janciauskas that RTL has taken care of her schedule.
6. She is a native Luxembourgish speaker
The country of Luxembourg is home to many different languages. As many people know, its inhabitants are usually fluent in multiple of them and that makes Luxembourg one of the countries in Europe with the smallest amount of monolinguals. Laura Thorn herself is a native Luxembourgish speaker, and on the way to the contest we could see her speak the Germanic language across press conferences and interviews.
7. Her Eurovision song is an ode to France Gall
As Laura Thorn told our Deban Aderemi at wiwibloggs, it was important for her and the songwriters that her Eurovision song would not be just any random song. Instead, it had to be a homage to France Gall, who won the contest for the small Benelux nation in 1965. Her “Poupée de cire, poupée de son” was the first pop song to win the contest.
8. She is a fitness enthusiast
Everyone who takes a quick glimpse at Laura’s social media pages will see that the singer is a fitness enthusiast. Anything between running and the gym seems one of her favourite places to be.
9. Among her favourite artists are Eminem, Céline Dion and Lara Fabian
Laura Thorn revealed to wiwibloggs that among her favourite artists is surprisingly the rapper Eminem. Next to that, she loves Swiss Eurovision winner Céline Dion and Belgian-Italian diva Lara Fabian.
10. Laura is still thinking about her music career after Eurovision
What started as a bit of a trial with sending in a demo for a potential song ended up in a complete Eurovision adventure. However, Laura revealed in an interview with Deban Aderemi from wiwibloggs that she is unsure what she will do once the contest is over. But so far, she is planning to enjoy the contest as much as possible! (And revealed she is holidaying Istanbul afterwards)
