If you looked closely at the video tease of Shkodra Elektronike’s costume reveal, you’ll have noticed that Beatrice’s fiery red dress includes an outline of her right breast. Her nipple is crowned by a red sapphire.

It’s not just sartorial provocation. It’s a nod to the Legend of Rozafa — among the most storied tales from Shkodër, the city regarded as the traditional capital of northern Albania.

Albania: Shkodra Elektronike nod to the Legend of Rozafa with breast outlined on dress

The region — which is known for its artistic flair — is home to the Rozafa Castle, named after the eponymous figure in the legend.

As the legend goes, three brothers were struggling to build their castle. Its walls kept crumbling. But one day an old wise man told them they should sacrifice one of their wives by burying her alive in the castle walls.

Rozafa, who had recently given birth, agreed to the sacrifice — so long as there were holes cut for her right eye, her right hand, and her right breast. She wanted to keep taking care of her child.

It’s a tale of suffering, yes, but also one of sacrifice. Beatrice’s dress and performance pay homage to the lengths women go to care for the ones they love.

Do you think about Shkodra Eletronike’s performance differently after seeing the photos and hearing the story that inspired “Zjerm”? Let us know in the comments down below.

All I can hope for is that they maintain the same or comparable NF performance. Artists typically perform extravagant acts when they eventually make it to ESC.

The dress is too costumy for me it looks a bit dated, but it suits the song.

I just hope they keep the same NF performance, or similar. When artists finally get to ESC, they tend to deliver over-the-top acts. This is not serving them as they believe. Keep it simple, Albania, do not be tempted.
