The Wiwi Jury—our in-house panel of music un-professionals—have been spending a lot of time in Paris. That’s because we recently reviewed songs by aspiring Eurovision contestants Destan, Joanna Lagrave and Twin Twin. Each member of the jury offered his or her critique of each song, and then awarded it a score out of 10. The scores were then averaged for the Wiwi Jury Verdict. The jury consists of an American, Brits, Irishmen, a Finn and an Austrian—so we are real international, y’all!

France at ESC 2014: Reviews and Rankings

1. Twin Twin with “Moustache” (6.78)

Good: “Twin Twin are the only French act likely to have any lasting impact in Copenhagen.”

Bad: “I find myself thinking back and making comparisons to Les Fatals Picards, and we all remember how that turned out.”

2. Joanna with “Ma Liberté” (6.56)

Good: “The ballad is very peaceful yet powerful, and Joanna nails the notes like it’s child’s play.”

Bad: “I like the chorus, but rest of the song makes me sleepy.”

3. Destan with “Sans Toi” (3.10)

Good: “Singing in Franglais widens the voting bloc. This is definitely a contender.”

Bad: “‘Sans Toi’ is the least entertaining song of the three on offer here. It lacks the drama of Joanna and the craziness of Twin Twin. It’s a textbook boyband song and I am so not entertained.”

You don’t speak about the show itself on stage. Destan will be the good choice on that point. They are able to prepare a good surprise like Azerbadjan last year.
