In the run-up to Eurovision every year, Dutch TV host and comedian Carlo Boszhard invites a Eurovision contender to appear on his popular Sunday afternoon talkshow Carlo’s TV Café. This year, a day after Eurovision in Concert, he invited both Joe & Jake and Amir.
The host, who’s known to be a huge Eurovision fan, usually invites his favourites. In recent years he invited Conchita Wurst and Guy Sebastian. They both did rather well, so an invite should be considered an honour.
Amir had some heartwarming words to say about Dutch entrant Douwe Bob prior to his performance.
“He is an extremely good-looking, nice and charismatic guy. I was very happy to get to know him. He’s an adorable guy. I felt like he was a friend before we even met. So good luck to Douwe Bob, I really hope he will get to the final of Eurovision.”

Joe & Jake were asked by Carlo Boszhard if Graham Norton was happy with them representing the United Kingdom after years of British failures in the contest.
They responded: “Graham has been fantastic. We really want the UK to be with our entry this year, so we’re doing everything we can to make everybody proud.”
Carlo also revealed that he thinks and hopes they will do better than Eurovision 2011 contestants Blue, who he invited to his show back in 2011. That puts him at odds with Christer Björkman who recently said he expects Joe & Jake to be another failure, but still thinks it’s a step in the right direction for the UK to deliver good results.
Christer said the UK was not going to win. He didn’t say they were “another failure”. Word should not be put in his mouth. I know some bloggers want to stir up controversy & hate but bashing Christer for his opinions is getting tiresome.
@Fransen
can you vote for Macedonia for me then? I love Kaliopi 🙂
@EugeneESCUK:
No need to be quite so defensive. I’m not telling you what to say.
All I’m saying is that you could provide something more constuctive. What is “decent staging” for you? (rather than what it is not). It’s quite an elusive concept in your posts — considering you don’t actually explain what you mean.
I’m simply asking if you could give some constructive ideas as to what you actually mean by “decent staging”? Can you say what you think decent staging would be for Joe and Jake? 🙂
I think Björkman should take a lesson from him in terms of what he said to Joe and Jake. I’m happy these two are getting support, because I think it’s needed when so many people are interested in the favourites to win.
@EugeneESCUK: Rather than simply stating what you don’t want to see the BBC do with the staging for Joe and Jake, why don’t you give some ideas?
It’s so easy (and lazy) to criticise everything without offering any construction.
If you want the staging to be “imaginative” and “out of the box”, can you be more specific with what that actually means? 🙂
Otherwise, comments like this are just vague and unhelpful.
you can have the best voice but if you’re ugly or if you don’t have any charisma you don’t win eurovision..
People don’t just listen to voices , they watch the staging too and if the artist is charming etc…
Amir has a beautiful voice .he sings very well the song but haters gonna hate.
Both acts are vocally underperforming (read off key, UK because they sing off key and don’t bland well together, France because he gets tired after one minute), Amir compensates with heaps of charm, but i don’t see him reaching top 3.
@Nicky91
I’m from Italy so I won’t be able to vote in the 1st Semifinal.
Not understand why you post that now ?!! Nothing in the article say it was nearly one month ago.
Amir made vast improvement since, just watch his Tel-Aviv or London live.
Old news.
@Fransen
thank you, Lisa Angell really performed that song, with her heart and soul 🙂
which country are you from, if i may ask? and can you vote in semi final 1?
Great vocals from Joe and Jake. It’s a shame for Amir. I hope he can sing in tune at the final.
@Nicky91
I did like N’oubliez Pas, so underrated! :/
Amir tries to connect with the audience by smiling all the time. I think a lot of people will fall for it. When I first heard the song I liked it, but whenever I hear him sing live his vocal flaws really turn me off.
We’ll see in May how much he’s improved…
@love it’s not two weeks old
@Eugene
well it’s not a difficult song, i can agree with that, unlike Ira’s walk on water, is technically more difficult, i think the reason for her not doing the high note so far at the pre party’s is just she wants to nail it to perfection, otherwise she’s flawless in the rest of the song
Amir has got a easy song, not very much technically good bits in it, and that Youuuuu part is very annoying for me, but i think he has got a nice voice, but this song doesn’t lift his voice to the fullest 🙁
@David Who
I respect your opinion but to me he sounds vocally weak in some parts of the song.
The video is two weeks-old. Amir improved a lot since then.
I can really see UK in the Top 10 this year and poor France flopping big style. Think Russia will win this year.
United Kingdom sounded better then France I must say that’s a surprise
I like amir’s song and he is really charismatic on stage.He sings very well.Nothing else to say except
France is my favourite this year.
Great performance from Joe & Jake, much less so from Amir…his live performance is weak; another over-hyped French song (2011 all over again)?
Oh, Amir… you’re hurting my ears!
@Fransen you know what it is with me that i don’t like his live performances as well, because i feel he wants to sing too perfect, and for me he doesn’t connect with the audience, and that Youuuuu part, is really awful ( like i said earlier i don’t like high notes, it’s the lower notes i like more in a song, and this song is lacking that) 🙁 and last year’s N’oubliez Pas, was way more connecting with the audience, at least with me, i had a tear and goosebumps from that song 🙂 look Amir is a good… Read more »
Complete opposite comment here: I like Amir’s performances live, because he does hit the notes quite well and he has real charisma – something a lot of other artists are lacking nowadays.
By the way, it looks like Carlo invited three really good-looking straight-acting men to his show. (Just thought i’d mention it.)
Oh, and good to see Joe & Jake’s performances are improving every week. Good for them. 🙂
amir was fantastic, improwed aloooot!!!!
I don’t like Amir’s live performances. The studio version is definitely better than when he sings live… unfortunately.
