On Saturday the 10th of February, Finland, Italy and Latvia chose their Eurovision 2024 songs. That takes us to a total of 13 confirmed entries for Malmö. Ireland’s Bambie Thug has held the top spot for our past two polls with their entry “Doomsday Blue”. Can anyone knock them off the top spot? That’s for you to decide. Once again it’s time to answer the question: What is your favourite Eurovision 2024 song so far?

Poll: Which Eurovision 2024 song is your favourite so far?

This weekend gave us three very different entries.

🇫🇮 Finland: Windows95man with “No Rules”

In Finland, the televoters used their power — 75% of the overall vote — to rip the trophy away from the jury’s favourite Sara Siipola. They instead handed it to Windows95man, whose humorous entry “No Rules” danced to its own beat. Part Weird Al Yankovic, part hot mess and totally eye-catching, the dance number stormed to the top, leaving Finland lol’ing all the way. Will Europe get the joke?

🇮🇹 Italy: Angelina Mango with “La noia”

For the first time since 1964, a solo female artist has won Sanremo and will take her winning song to Eurovision. The last time that happened Gigliola Cinquette won the entire competition. The possibility of that happening again rests with Angelina Mango, whose infectious song “La noia” was a fan favourite. It beat off stiff competition — including from the televoters’ favourite Geolier. In the end it was the juries who made sure Angelina got through.

🇱🇻 Latvia: Dons with “Hollow”

He was the bridesmaid in Latvia’s national selection twice in the past. But now Dons is finally having his moment. The “Hollow” singer took his soulful number to the top of the Supernova scoreboard, giving fans hope that Latvia will finally return to the final at Eurovision — for the first time since 2016. He’s got the voice. He’s got the song. But will he have Europe’s support? We certainly hope so.

So who did you vote for? Who is emerging as a jury favourite and televote favourite in your mind? Let us know down below…

I’m not getting why Norway is so highly rated, while I don’t hate it it reminds me a bit of Alvan and Ahez from France a few years ago, a lot of wailing and not a lot of substance. If they decide to change to English it will lose much of it’s charm.

For me:
Creative: Ireland – day/night/dusk/chaotic emotions expressed over a period of time much like life
Culture: Norway – a musical retelling of a local fable in their own language
Fun: Finland – best performance of the night at UMK and such fun

Result: depends who’s voting and what they’re drawn too and their mood on the night in question; and their live performance ‘on that night’.

#bekind… Find a way to express yourself without trashing people. Example above!

For me, Finland, with a revamp of the staging, could do really really really well… Like even top 10… This kind of sound is quite popular, ! If they keep the ‘ridcouls/joke/unserious’ elements of the staging, it woud however struggle to be so high, but I think it would nonetheless qualify (Croatia last year did it with something WAYYYY WORST in a better year)

Comparing Finland 2024 and Croatia 2023 is silly. There is a difference between satirical song and pure trolling (Finland 2024). If you do a joke, at least do it well as Käärijä did it last year. No Rules is just bizzare

I would also add that satire is much more enjoyed in South and East Europe than the dry physical comedy that people in Nordic countries, or UK and Ireland seem to like. That’s why you get songs like “Mama S?” or “Euro Neuro” from the Balkans, when North Europe sends the likes of Dustin the Turkey and “Leto Svet”.

Windows95man might not have been the hot favourite to win by fans, but I don’t see reason to disrespect them with hateful messages and notorious downvoting on Eurovisionworld.

We’ve seen these situations before:
UMK20: Aksel vs Erika Vikman
Mello20: Dotter vs The Mamas
UMK22: Bess vs The Rasmus
MGP21: KeiiNo vs Tix

Are we truly making this contest more likeable, if us (fans) just throw hate on artists if they weren’t our favourite for the win? Feels like this happens more often than we think.

Reply to  Grft

Not really. First of all Finland is no Moldova, in terms of televoting potential. And secondly you underestimate the cultural element. Songs like “Trenuletul” can travel (pun intended) very well in South and East Europe. The Nordic dry sense of humour of “No rules” will very likely fall flat in most countries south of the Baltic and North Sea. This could very well become the “Leto Svet” of 2024.

The televote audience for the semis is also different from the final’s televote audience. In the final it is more random as you are getting people just tuning in for the final and would vote for a novelty act. I feel the televoters in the semi are generally Eurovision fans and the likelihood is that they will be familiar with Finland before the semi and the shine will have worn off by then.

ThorBeta
ThorBeta
Reply to  MaxESC

That is also true. Of course it’s a 15 song semifinal so any song has more chances to qualify rather than not, but if we also take into account that it’s a strong semi and Finland doesn’t have many friendly countries it’s a real possibility that they will fail to qualify (although I’m preparing myself for the opposite).
