On January 14 German broadcaster NDR announced the first seven finalists that will be competing in Ünser Song Für Österreich, Germany’s Eurovision selection, in March. As we previously reported, these seven finalists are considered established artists and will compete with each other and a wildcard entry to be selected from a pool of ‘young talent’ in February. While we wait for that announcement, let’s get to know the lucky seven.

FAUN

Faun are a German rock band that formed in 2002. They are known for their medieval, dark wave sound. Their most recent album ‘Luna’ hit the top 20 in the German, Austrian and Swiss music charts in 2014. They’re current and they’re climbing those charts. Could they be headed to Vienna?

ALEXA FESER

Alexa Feser is a 35-year old German singer. Prior to her solo work, she served as a backing vocalist for many German artists, as well as Ricky Martin! She released her first solo album in 2008 and has maintained a strong musical presence in Germany ever since.

MRS. GREENBIRD

Mrs. Greenbird is a musical duo that shot to fame after winning The X-Factor Germany in 2012. Since then many of their singles and their albums have charted well in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Their name comes from a dead green parrot they found in their house. Obviously.

ANDREAS KÜMMERT

Andreas Kümmert is another successful German artist spawned from the success of reality television, having won The Voice of Germany in 2013. A fan favourite from the beginning, Andreas blew the judges away with his blind audition of ‘Rocketman’ by Elton John. Following his success on The Voice, his first two albums charted in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

LAING

Laing is a vocal group based in Berlin. The group consists of three vocalists named Nicola, Larissa and Johanna, as well as a dancer named Marisa. They have had commercial success in Germany and Austria. And judging by this video, they love wearing wigs.

NOIZE GENERATION

Noize Generation is a popular German DJ. He has done multiple remixes of songs by OneRepublic and Gorillaz. Noize Generation have also recently collaborated with Judy Brock with the dance hit, ‘Name In Lights’.

FAHRENHAIDT

Fahrenhaidt is a new age act, who has been signed by Universal Music in Germany. Its masterminds are Erik Macholl and Andreas John, the two well-known producer-artists behind Betty Dittrich’s “La la la” from the 2013 national selection. According to the Universal website, “Fahrenhaidt is modern nature pop – inspired by nature and blended with modern electronica.” Apparently Emmelie de Forest has lended vocals for one of their tracks. Faun is amazing! I really hope they have a song as great as Diese Kalte Nacht and get Germany back in the top 10, because they have the talent to do so.

Faun’s last album debuted high in German albums chart and their music is interesting and very unique.

Noize Generation is like the Avicci of Germany? Not sure if it works in Eurovision but it’s something contemporary.

Mrs. Greenbird used to be big back in 2012 not anymore. Plus that country pop won’t work again after The Common Linnets

Faun and Alexa are the best singers among these ones.
Faun is an amazing band and if they work for a good rock song they are surely gonna get the ticket. From the other hand the vocal of Alexa is just awesome.
