Last night 19 artists performed in the semi final of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2016, but only 14 have advanced to tonight’s grand final in Valletta. In recent weeks our dear readers have been voting up a storm in our fan poll and ultimately named Ira Losco their winner with “Chameleon”. At the same time the Wiwi Jury — our in-house panel of musical unprofessionals — has been busy reviewing all of the songs, and we ranked “Chameleon” a close second behind Christabelle’s floor-stomper “Kingdom”. Now it’s time to combine our results and reveal a very loose prediction of what will go down tonight in the Med…

These results are, of course, based on the pre-recorded studio versions released by the contestants in January. Tonight’s six-member jury, which accounts for 86% of the overall score, will be evaluating the live performances. In some ways you could call this an internal selection, with the public being thrown a 14% stake as a courtesy. Ira is an obvious favourite of the jury. But according to our results Christabelle will offer Ira her toughest challenge, along with Corazon, Maxine and Brooke.

You can tune in via the MESC 2016 live stream tonight from 20:45 CET.

3:36 A.M., E.S.T. in New York City (9:36 C.E.T.), and all I have to say is…

…WHEW!!!

This song has the potential to score over 200 points in Stockholm! It has some of the elements (ferocity, mainly) of Sanna Nielsen’s “Undo”, and maybe a few elements (elegance, perhaps?) of Polina Gagarina’s “A Million Voices”, and they both scored over 200.

I was left disappointed at Ira’s first performance, until last night I preferred Chameleon over TWILY, but in that stage performance TWILY has so much more. Maxine really impressed me though, such a infectious performance.

Amber’s Warrior is my 2nd favorite 2015 ESC song and I don’t think that they’ll choose a better song than that because before the revamp ‘Warrior’ was stronger.

I’m team Christabelle

I know Maxine is popular.. but her song is not for Eurovision… perhaps at best she could place top15 in the final…. or completely fail to make it to the final.

Ira will definitely improve her stage act to Eurovision and Chameleon is really good. It sounds like the songs that Sweden has won with for a few years now. I will definitely vote for it in Stockholm

I am still quite sure Ira will win tonight.
