Latvian broadcaster LTV has revealed the 22 artists their song titles that will be competing in Supernova 2017. And returning for another shot will be 2015 runner-up Markus Riva and 2016 finalist My Radiant You. But most significantly — this year Aminata Savadogo is not involved, either as a performer or a songwriter.
Markus Riva is back, this time competing with the self-written song “Dynamite”. This will be his fourth consecutive year at in a Latvian national final. His best result was in 2015, when he placed second with the moody “Take Me Down”. Last year the jury vote kept his upbeat entry “I Can” from making it to the final. Will 2017 be his year?
Also returning is the duo My Radiant You (formerly known as MyRadiantU), who will be performing “All I Know”. This will be their third time competing in Supernova. Their best result to date was last year, when “We Will Be Stars” placed third in the final.
Supernova 2017 will also feature electronic act Triana Park, who last competed in 2011, Justs backing vocalist Anna Zankovska, and popular Latvian singer Linda Leen.
There’s no sign of any contributions by Aminata Savadogo, who penned the winning Supernova song for the past two years. Instead she can be found in neighbouring Lithuania. Aninata has written the song “I’m Like a Wolf” for Aiste Pilvelyte that will compete in Eurovizijos atranka.
Latvian broadcaster LTV received 168 tracks from 89 artists. Supernova jury member Kaspars Roga said that the overall quality was much higher this year.
The songs and artists will be introduced in shows on 22 and 29 January. The heats will be held on 5 and 12 February, the semi-final on 19 February, with the grand final held on 26 February.

We Won’t Back Down is the absolute best of all these songs and if it was to win with a good live performance, it could do VERY well in Eurovision.
Generally, I have to say I like the production of the Supernova songs. Nice job. I hardly remember a couple of songs after listening to all 22. However, I want to comment on some of them. “We Are Angels”: I like the music and the singer has a good voice. Contemporary. “Silhouette”: I mostly like the singer’s voice here. Not excited. “Who Is In Charge”: I have to say I like the different sound compared to the other songs. Interesting approach and a good voice. Sth alternative. “Dynamite”: I don’t have the enthusiasm most of you have, but it’s a… Read more »

Crime Sea’s song is here! Huge Grimes and Crystal Castles influences. Very subdued.
I’ve been listening to Triana Park’s ‘Line’ on loop, and let me say that it definitely has replay value. Out of this selection, it’s my personal favourite thus far. It’s not the most sophisticated and technical song in the world, but it coincides with the trends that we’re hearing on the radio and in other selections. Somewhere in the middle of the song, there are some shoegaze-y(?) elements that I can appreciate. There is a definite emphasis on the musicality rather than on the vocals, which, in contrast to other readers here, I don’t mind at all. My impression is… Read more »
Toms Kalderauskis is the best IMO
Love the sooong ????
I really like the song “Dynamite”! It’s amazing! I look forward to see “Supernova” and believe in the victory of Marcus!
MARKUS RIVA – DYNAMITE!
He’s so good!
Dynamite,MarkusRiva-my winner!I really like this! Hopefully he’ll win this year ??
Crime Sea – The Vincent – Santa Danelevica – Triana Park
These four could bring Latvia to the final for the 3rd consecutive year.
Dynamite,MarkusRiva-my winner!I really like this! Hopefully he’ll win this year ??
CRIME SEA- “ESCAPE” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiSUd9v5FMs WOW it is great. I love it so much. I hope this vill win. I am listening it all day. 🙂
Guys, if you like any of our Supernova participants, be sure to add them on your Spotify lists and hit them on repeat, because this year we are taking Spotify song statistics into voting. It’s not yet specified how, but its a fact.
Now, when all Supernova 2017 songs are available, Latvia could be a wild horse in this year’s competition. Although there is nothing that vocally screams out, there are several songs that can approach you from your back. 7 songs that are growing in me: *The Ludvig (the guy got the voice. It appears that he has amazing vocals) *Crime Sea (funkiness. This will stand out purely from the audio point of view) *Santa Danelevica (another artist that apears will deliver vocally) *Miks Dukurs (easy to listen song) *Triana Park (funky. not easy to connect, but it has potential) *The HiQ… Read more »

Toms Kalderauskis ‘We Won’t Back Down’ is the best of all the songs!
Where is the Crime Sea? Why do they hide their song?
Latvia! ECHT PERFEKT
Love it, the best NS by light years.
The most anticipated song still hasn’t been uploaded. Exciting!!!
Crime Sea – Escape
@William Lee Adams team When we will be able to hear your opinions on those songs, please?
Don’t get those who want now each year something like Aminata and Justs. Get over it. There are more acts, not just they. Do you ask to all Swedish people to send something like Loreen or Mans was? Each year must something new!
I’ d vote for Santa Danelevica
Most song to me are OK at best and certainly none of them are up to the same standards as Justs or Aminata or even some finalists as finalists of both previous supernovas, so I largely hope from something good from other participants, whose songs aren’t revealed yet. Most songs right now are either too generic or too unnecessarily edgy. However, I do have a favourite and I think with good presentation it would be a good entry on the big Eurovision stage – “Little Weird”. It’s pleasant to the ear, has a nice build-up and has that emotional tone… Read more »
I like some of these. I’m not disappointed at all; I think Supernova will be great this year. What are people moaning about?!!
The best song this year are(we still don’t know about Crime Sea – Escape, MNTHA’s group)
1. UP – “One by One”
2. Laura Lo and Chris Oak – “Little Weird”
3. Triana Park – “Line”
4. The Ludvig – “I’m In Love With You”
By the way add – Katrina Cirule – “Blood Runs Quicker” the song is here:
https://soundcloud.com/katrina-cirule/blood-runs-quicker-katrina-cirule
i kinda enjoy it.
If I’m correct, Markus Riva has participated in Supernova since 2015 or something (maybe even earlier). I remember he was 2nd in 2015 after Aminata (amazing song, still love it!). I just wanted to point out that probably this guy wants desperately to go to ESC. Not excited by his songs the previous years though.
Still, I’m really excited about Supernova! Can’t wait!
My favorites from those that are already available (no particular order): – “Line”: I really love the instrumental, but those vocals… not so sure. Hopefully better live 😐 – “We Won’t Back Down” is a cute arena pop song. That chorus is (super) catchy, but the super short bridge is disappointing. It’s like the love child of Justs and Juri. – “Taju ot Lyubvi”: that violin is <3 and it blends very well with the more modern production. I wonder how they will arrange it for the 3-minute edit. – "All I Know" reminds me of the soundtrack to a… Read more »
“We Won’t Back Down” is amazing! By far the best! “Silhouette” is also good. “Line” is overrated. Too repetitive for my taste.
Triana Park – Line <3 <3 <3
It’s my day two of listening to the available (so far) songs for Supernova and I’m in love in Triana Park! If Latvia chooses them – I’ll once again be very pleased with my lovely little Latvia.
Not including the ones that are unavailable, the only good ones from this bunch are Laura Lo & Chris Oak, MyRadiantU, and Triana Park. But based on what we hear right now, none of them are up to the level that Aminata and Justs set.
So far, based on the released songs, Latvia IS NOT making it to the final.
amateur hour :/ I don’t even like Line
Interesting choice Latvia. While from the first time listen, there is no one outstanding song, second time gives me a bit more clarity. The Ludvig’s song has a groove and I like it. His pronunciation is superb and voice splendid. Triana Park sounds good as well. They need a good show and a catch to proceed to the next level. Linda Leen’s song catches the attention. I don’t see it winning as she doesn’t give a chance for the listener to take a break from the lyrics. But it’s a catchy song (and superb video). The HiQ catches attention as… Read more »
I predict the victory for Triana Park! They’ve been trying hard for years to win our national selection. I think their time has finally come this year! Line is definitely the best out of these so far.
I’m liking The HiQ’s song, it’s seems the most sincere out of all the songs and with the necessary cutting down to 3mins, it could be great.
Very disappointing line-up after two great years for Latvia 🙁
Triana Park’s song isthe only decent one out of these.
From available stuff I can’t really say what picks me up. Maybe ‘Line’ – it somehow reminded me Youniverse (MF 16) by same rythm, but it sounds less synthetic which is good and slightly more radio-friendly. That russian Song from HiQ is quite moody but forgettable at the same time. ‘Who is in Charge’ pretends to be defiant edgy song but I clearly feel how her vocal and pronounciation devalues lyrics. The Ludwig got some hype behind him as I saw in YT comments, his song reminded me IIWS + singing choruses, can’t decide if it appeals to me or… Read more »
@ Tomas Patrick Davitt – not when all she can come up with is “feeling your heartbeat – that’s what I want, what’s what I need”. I mean… get some inspiration and then come back with something decent.
It’s so nice to see practically only Latvian names among those records’ credits, and not a single Swedish one. Well, let’s review the 11 songs that are available so far! “Naked” – a falsetto nightmare. “Up” – it just goes on repeating “up, only up” for two thirds of the song, but it’s not even catchy. “Silhouette” – extremely forgettable, reminds me of “What For?” and “Beautiful Song” which were laughably bad recent entries from Latvia. “Who Is in Charge” – the chorus literally says “who is in charge for all this mess”… the irony. Good video, though. “Dynamite” –… Read more »
Not impressed with any of the songs until now but hey, it takes only one awesome song to qualify.
@Tom
Which song in Latvian are you referring to? “Taju ot lyubvi”? This song is in Russian.
I find it interesting that the song in Latvian which would be predicted to not do well because it is completely not in English is by far the most likely to do well.
ugh very disappointing there is no Aminata. She should just write us an electro pop gem every year please.
Of those 11 – nothing stands out to me. the HiQ has a bit of something that reminds me of ‘Lighthouse’ but people will say its boring.
Is it me or does the 4th member from the right of Rock’n’Berries look like Danny De Vito?1
The Ludvig is my favourite so far 🙂
Loved “Line” from the first notes. And the more I listen the more I like it. Want to hear Triana Park live, but so far they are the best out of the lineup above.
I’m a bit disappointed by Markus Riva’s song. I enjoy his Russian stuff and think he’d be great at Eurovision, but his Supernova songs never seem quite up to scratch. Still, maybe his performance will be good.
Well what a really bad selection! From this songs we can listen to I only like Triana Park – Line!
Send My Radiant You , please. The only song that I liked from first seconds.
Poor selection.. Markus Riva has a lot of potential with his song but will need special staging.. Katrine Lukins and Triana Park are pretty ok but the rest are awful, hope the remaining songs are better although I doubt it..
Triana- line is really good the rest suck…
