They’ve been kept a secret over the past six weeks. Now Swedish broadcaster SVT has revealed the full voting results for all six Melodifestivalen 2017 shows. And there are a few surprises in the numbers.
The Melodifestivalen results includes a full breakdown of the two rounds of voting in each of the semi-finals. The first round is determined by app and televotes, after which the two lowest scoring acts are eliminated. The voting then continues with televote only. And sometimes this second round can make all the difference.
Owe Thörnqvist was ranked only fourth after the first round of voting. He received a record 158,074 votes in the second round — which put him in second place with a total of 961,526 votes.
Also earning over 100,000 votes on the second round of voting were Nano (122,263), Jon Henrik & Aninia (101,324) and Loreen (104,230)
Roger Pontare was also ranked fourth after the first round, but things took a different turn for him. At that stage he was just over 12,700 votes ahead of Dismissed. The glam rock band overtook him in the second round of voting and secured their place in Andra Chansen.
Despite winning his semi-final (and the grand final), Robin Bengtsson did not top the voting in the semi-finals. In fact, there were six other acts who earned a higher score in their semi-final. Nano, Mariette, Wiktoria, Ace Wilder, Benjamin Ingrosso and Lisa Ajax all topped his score of 1,031,479.
The closest Andra Chansen duel was between Lisa Ajax and Axel Schylström. There was just 5752 votes between them, with Lisa narrowly taking 50.15% of the vote.
Andra Chansen duel partners Loreen and Anton Hagman had scored remarkably closely in their respective semi-finals. Anton had earned 880,640 in his semi-final, slightly ahead of Loreen with 872,651 in her semi-final. But Anton was the only fourth-placed semi-finalist to win his duel — and Loreen was the only third placed semi-finalist to lose hers.
The televote scores from the grand final just confirm how close the public vote was. While Nano was the clear televote favourite, little more than 38,000 votes separated Wiktoria and Robin Bengtsson in second and third places.

What do you think of the Melfest results? Are there any surprises? Tell us what you think in the comments section below!
Once I initially commented I clicked the -Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get four emails with the identical comment. Is there any way you may remove me from that service? Thanks!
They need to increase the value of paid votes And reduce the app vote per entry to 1. That is you can only vote once using app for one person. And can’t use the app to vote for more than four people in the semi/ 1 in each duel/ three people in the final.
Seems like Wiktoria was the ‘chosen one’ but she just couldn’t deliver her song that well live so it came down to either Robin and Nano. I remember that interview with Ace and she mentioned feeling pressure last year because they wanted a female winner hmm..
Then again, how tight would it have been between Loreen and Nano (or all 3, including Robin), for that matter, had there been juries for all 4 rounds and A.C.?
@Jurij: I take it you’re suggesting they need to have juries for all 4 heats of this competition AND Andra Chansen, yes? Loreen would surely have had the jury in the palms of her hands. But how tight would it have been, between her and Robin?
If they were to keep the 2012-17 rules in place, but erase the 1st round of voting, here is what we would have had: Heat 1 Direkt till Final: Nano and Boris Andra Chansen: Ace and De Vet Du Heat 2 Direkt till Final: Benjamin and Mariette (Benjamin won the 2nd round by 377 votes) Andra Chansen: Dismissed and Lisa Ajax Heat 3 Direkt till Final: Owe and FO&O (Owe got 158,074; FO&O beat Robin by 2,074 votes) Andra Chansen: Robin and Bella & Filippa (B&F beat Anton by 14,786) Heat 4 Direkt till Final: Loreen and Jon Henrik &… Read more »
Looking at the 2011 rules, if I read correctly, the winner in each heat from the first round of voting goes straight to the final. The votes are then erased, and the winner of the 2nd round of voting goes to the final, while the next 2 go to Andra Chansen. Given that rule, here is how the whole scenario would have played out, with the 2011 rules in place: Heat 1: 1st round vote winner: Nano 2nd round vote winner: Boris René Andra Chansen: Ace Wilder and De Vet Du Heat 2: 1st round winner: Mariette 2nd round winner:… Read more »
The song that won is great! It will win ESC
The moral of the story is not to use the ‘F’ word during your performance, Miss Potty Mouth.
It’s better if you are allowed to vote after all the contestants in each semifinal have performed if you have a pot of hearts of course.
@Lukewarm
It’s a good thing. Yes? 😀
Funny enough, if the tele-vote in the second round of the voting period in each semi-final had been re-set as they did prior to 2011 (which would be a logistical nightmare with the current Melo-app): – Loreen, Boris René and FO&O would have gone straight to the final – Instead we would have seen Ace Wilder, Robin Bengtsson and Wiktoria going to Andra Chansen I’m so glad that this was’t the case as the last three contestants were much better. However, I believe SVT needs to change the voting structure for the Grand Final or change the voting system on… Read more »
Would just like to point out a piece of interesting information that is missing from the article – Alice also finished 4th after round 1 (like Roger) but came 5th after round 2 🙁 I really wanted her to make it to Andra Chansen and I hope that she returns next year!
@Milla
Half the app users aka children will probably run out of votes after 3 songs.
When someone wins Eurovision without winning the semi they sang in: THIS SONG IS HORRIBLE
When someone wins Melodifestivalen without winning the semi they sang in: GOOD SONG FROM SWEDEN
Totally understandable, innit?
I will be so dissapointed if they don’t do something about the app until next year! Because the problem with this voting system is obvious especially these past two years. @Schlagerprofilerna suggested something good. That each person voting with the app have a pot of hearts to give away as you please. I think 10 hearts is enough. Then people would have to THINK first before they vote. The international juries is a good thing. They stay.
OMG so many votes
With only televote in semi, older singer have litle chance to go to final or second chance. And in final , chance to win song in swedish is so small thanks to international juries.
I think the biggest thing here for me in that SVT messed up a little when they allowed Owe to do his rap. His second round votes are the most out of all 20 who made the second round. Then Fo&O would have been direkt till final. Its still possibly though that Loreen would have duelled Anton Hagman though, to be honest.
I think its a pretty standard thing that you need to give everyone the same amount of screen time while voting is going on but personally I think they should leave the interviews until AFTER voting has closed
Ever since the introduction of the voting app, entries of a rather questionable qualities reach the final. No one votes for the songs, but for the singers depending on how popular they are in Sweden at the moment. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the app votes are not counted in the second voting round in the semi-finals; just look at Owe and Loreen’s results in the first and then in the second voting round. Besides this, the margin between the entries’ scores in the televote are way to small for the viewers to affect the final… Read more »
Jasmine 🙁
I know people can vote multiple times, but it is still very impressive that there are over 9 million people in Sweden, yet over 14 million votes were cast. You would never see this level of popularity of music shows in the USA. Incredible. Swedes love their music!!
App voting needs to go.
It’s still unbelievable to me how Dinah and Alice didn’t even make it to Andra Chansen. 🙁
Loreen shoul have gone to the final if we have had the rules from 2011.
Here is tha link whith the hole information:

Looking at the raw stats the second round rarely matters anymore (over the past three years that they’ve had app voting) I think it’s time they returned to the pre-2012 system where it isn’t the total amount of votes, but that at the end of the first round all votes are discounted. It would make it far more interesting. And for those talking down Loreen, she won the second round in her semi-final. Wiktoria came third in that round. It would certainly make the stakes higher if they wiped the scoreboard clear after the first round.
With the app voting, the votes are bound to be so close. They should go back to the 11-22-44-66-88-110-132 system in the final or else the juries will always decide the winner. Even with his huge lead, Frans only got 68 televote points last year.
The app voting is insane, Even Frans who get record number of votes only managed to get 30 points more than Oscar Zia. They really should get rid of the app. The only thing it will lead to is t´he jury favourite becoming the overall Winner, since it’s impossible to have a true overwhelming landslide victory.
Another funny thing: if the votes would’ve been reset like before 2011, Robin Bengtsson and wiktoria would’ve gone to Andra chansen
I love how duel 4 between Loreen and Anton hagman wasn’t as close as everyone thought . It was a big speculation here in Sweden that duel 4 was the closest one ever. Nano got almost 200 000 more votes than Robin, I actually thought that it would be more votes. It might sound a lot but that was almost the same amount of votes that’s sara Varga got in deltävling 4 lmao One more interesting thing is that Owe Törnqvist was 4th after the first round of votes in deltävling 3, which means that if it would’ve stayed that… Read more »
Insane voting
They need to change the scoring if the percentage difference is that small in the final. I think, a 12-to-1-point-scoring like they used in Portugal or Poland would be better than changing percentages into points.
So Loreen wasn’t “boycotted” in Andra Chansen then? That’s very interesting.
that app really made the voting ridiculous, the percentage difference is literally non-existent in the Grand Final
