She’s among the most-followed celebrities in the Balkans with a staggering 2.2 million followers on Instagram. And now Jelena Karleuša — the queen of Balkan pop and a true Serbian icon — has performed “Hasta la vista” alongside Hurricane.

The performance happened during Jelena’s quarantine concert streamed on Sunday evening on the YouBox movie app. She kindly invited Hurricane — that’s Sanja Vučić, Ivana Nikolić and Ksenija Knežević — to slay alongside her.

The performance opens with Jelena stomping down the stage in a pair of thigh-high black leather boots and what can only be described as a Dominatrix bikini. It included silver chains that added a shiny pop against her all-black number.

One minute in the performance shifts away from “Hasta la vista” and sees the women for a Maruv-style train in which they cusp and pat each other’s bums, as seen in the image at the top of this post. The women work their way through Jelena’s hit “Bas je dobro biti ja” and their own number “Avantura”.

Jelena has long been rumoured as a potential representative of Serbia at Eurovision. At various points she’s expressed her willingness to sing at the contest, though she hasn’t been a fan of RTS’ handling of the contest in recent years.

In 2018 she said: “The people from RTS that deal with Eurovision do not live in 2018, they live in the past. They are from a completely different story. I think that a person in charge with that should be someone who follows world trends. We have been embarrassing ourselves year in, year out, whilst people give a lot of money for RTS to spend it on their inanities.”

Her performance alongside Hurricane suggests that she approves of what they would have brought to Eurovision in 2020.

Besides her music, Jelena is known as a fashion influencer. In the past she has claimed that Lady GagaKim Kardashian and Beyoncé copy her style. She also has her own fashion line, JK Wear. But she’s more than a fashionista: she’s also a major advocate of Serbia’s LGBT community.

Are you loving this collaboration? Do you want Jelena to team up with Hurricane more often? Shout it out below!

Isn’t these kind of sexualized trash performances very two decades ago? It doesn’t work today and it wouldn’t work in ESC 2020. Or any upcoming ESC. It isn’t trendy ..

that song isn’t reliant on sexuality though. “Hasta La Vista” is however. And to an extent karleusa as well, her whole career has been about sexualizing herself. Though she is a decent singer and can sing a ballad really well

Ariana Grande’s song “Side to Side” is about walking funny due to sore private parts after so much sex. Ariana admitted it on a talk show. Her song “God is a Woman” is also about sex – that sex with her is so good that she’s a god. Ariana Grande’s songs are some of the most blatant and pushy about sex ever – and sung by someone who often looks 14 years old. (But these over-sexualized songs are written mainly by men – a Swede and a team of Iranians.) “Hasta la Vista” is about leaving a man because he… Read more »

Ariana has stated that she hates ‘Side to Side’, but she had to sing it since her career wasn’t as ‘Grande’ at that time :’)

Like this music or not, we have to admit this is hot as hell and all 4 have great stage presence.
Oversexualized?! No, this is showbiz.

Oversexualized performance to hide the fact that 50% of those ladies can’t sing at all. Jelena sings like she wants to stand out over the others. Arrogant diva style.

I’ve never been a fan of these performances, way too much unrequired sexual energy. I get why people might like it though. Maruv had the requiered level of sexuality and some provocative key points.

Well I do agree that Jelena isn’t much of a singer (Hurricane can all sing tho), but tbh I’m not bothered with men and women using their beauty to get audience, why not? But I get why some people don’t like it, however, for me visual part is just as the audio part.

Karleuša is a high class performer and entertainer, I’ve been to 2 of her concerts where she sang completely live and she sounded good. The thing is that Hasta la vista just doesn’t fit her vocals, while on the other hand you can obviously hear that she dominates vocally in her song “Baš je dobro biti ja”.

For those who consider Karleuša a singer, I seriously recommend: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x48xvx
(not for those with weak hearts)

I think all can sing but Jelena. Sanja can sing and the blondes can too – but they are inconsistent. During the Beovizija performance the taller one, Ivana, had a cold. In other performances and here she sounds better. The other blonde, Ksenija, can sound bad then good in the same song. In the Beovizija performance she sounded bad in the first half, but in the second half her voice sounded much better.

Ivana is also not a trained singer, she is a dancer but she is working on her singing all this time and the progress is easy to see. She’s getting better and better and can already match very well with Sanja and Ksenija (while being their dance powerhouse 🙂 ).

CORRECTION – They didn’t perform Jelena’s song “Upravo ostavljena”! (It was actually the opening track of the concert, performed by Karleuša alone). But they did perform “Hasta la vista” & “Baš je dobro biti ja” together and then “Avantura” Hurricane alone. 🙂

Jelena has a point though (before 2020) the music they sent didn’t really reflect the music industry of Serbia – same with Croatia – they are sending stuff that isn’t really their music industry… Romania fixed this problem this year, hope Serbia and Croatia will follow.

That’s so very true.. Most of the entries after Marija are by artists who are not popular or even yet known in the country. I think RTS is trying to much to please with whatever they think will appeal to the ESC audience, but also to keep the expenses down. It would be very interesting to for once send something that people actually listen to in the Balkans and see how the Europe likes it, even if its’ trashy, it will for sure be entertaining. Jelena stated several times that she would be proud to represent Serbia at ESC, but… Read more »
