She’s the stunning Swedish singer known to Eurovision fans for her Melodifestivalen hits including “Why Am I Crying?” and “Youniverse.” And now the rest of the world is learning all about Molly Sandén owing to her vocal performances in the new Netflix movie Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.

Molly performs in the film under the pseudonym “My Marianne,” which is actually her middle name. On her new Instagram account for the persona (@mymariannemusic), she describes herself as “Molly Sandén’s Icelandic alter ego = Sigrit’s singing-voice on the soundtrack from Eurovision Song Contest – The Story of Fire Saga.”

The account, which is already followed by the likes of Sony Music Sweden and Eurovision alum Anja Nissen, follows just 25 accounts. The lucky artists include Dua Lipa, Adele and, of course, Molly Sandén.

The account was only set up on June 3, and until now all uploads have featured Molly wearing sunglasses, as if she’s obscuring her identity or building a mystery….perhaps to cordon off her existing work in Sweden and this more Hollywood-orientated project.

But on Tuesday evening My Marianne let her face be known as she uploaded a stunning live acoustic of “Husavik” — the song that provides The Story of Fire Saga with its emotional climax.

David Karl Larson, a member of the Swedish rock band The Royal Concept, accompanies her on piano.

Looking straight into the camera, she seems to feel every word — laying down so much emotion that it’s no wonder Rachel McAdams was feeling it during her lip-sync!

The song has gone down a treat both in and out of Eurovision circles. It peaked at #10 on the Worldwide iTunes charts earlier this week.

The song comes at a critical juncture in the movie. Not only are the characters Lars and Sigrit defying convention (and the rules) by switching the song in the grand final, they’re also expressing their commitment to each other — and the place that brought them together. As she sings: “All I needed was to get away, just to realize that I was meant to stay, where the mountains sing through the screams of seagulls…”

Are you hoping to hear more music from My Marianne? Do you want Molly to collaborate with the Fire Saga songwriters for Melodifestivalen 2021? Let us know down below!

I love the movie very much !! I like most of the songs a lot But I like “Husavik” and “Double Trouble” most !! Molly is a great singer I met her during the Junior ESF 2007 in Rotterdam. Her sister Frida take part for Sweden that year. Molly participated in 2006 for Sweden and came 3th with her beautiful song ” Det Finaste Någon Kan Få ” I hope that someday she will represent Sweden in Eurovision !! She deserves it !!

Húsavík would certainly win real ESC particularly with support from juries. Double Trouble could on the other hand do very well in televote as it partly reminds me Norway 2019 style. Both songs are solid!

For Pete’s sake, Molly! This song could be your international breakthrough! Embrace it completely! You may very well be doing what we Eurovision fans call “a Volare.” (Well, OK, I’m the only one who calls it that, but still.)
