Back in August, Sweden’s Sveriges Radio revealed the eight finalists of P4 Nästa 2020 — an annual contest to find new artists and new music suited to P4 radio network format. The eight finalists were selected from 25 nominees representing the regional P4 stations.
On Saturday the duo Hilde & Erik won the competition with their song “Som det är”. But it’s Julia Alfrida who has booked a place in the semi-finals of Melodifestivalen 2021.
Julia Alfrida’s ticket to Melodifestivalen 2021
Karin Gunnarsson — the Melodifestivalen competition producer — explained why Julia earned the chance to sing at Melfest despite not having the winning song.
“When choosing a P4 Nästa winner, you have a greater focus on the song, as the winner wins gigs on the radio with the song they competed with. For Melodifestivalen, it’s an artist we are looking for. Julia Alfrida will not compete with her P4 Nästa contribution as that song has already been performed in public.”
Karin also praised Julia’s ability to perform outside of the box.
“Julia Alfrida is a young, exciting artist who pushes boundaries and norms both musically and with her personality. It feels very fun to give her the opportunity to reach a large audience. The next step will be to find the right song for Melodifestivalen together with Julia.”
Julia was also a favourite with wiwibloggs readers. She was voted the second favourite P4 Nästa finalist in our poll.
P4 Next is a nationwide music competition where both established and unknown artists compete against each other. Every year, one of the finalists in the competition is offered a chance to participate in the Melodifestivalen.
Last year’s P4 artist at Melfest was Amanda Aasa with “Late”. She finished in sixth place in the third semi-final.
What do you think? What sort of song should Julia take to Melfest? Who else would you like to see in the Swedish national final? Tell us your thoughts below!
now we know who’s ending last in one of the melfest semis! has anyone from p4 nasta ever even gotten to second chance?
Not yet (Terese Fredenwall and Smajling Swedes/Smilo placed 5th in their respective semis), but there’s a first time for everything!
how do you know that?
I would’ve preferred Agnes Rehn, but Julia seems to have an interesting style 🙂 Good luck, I’m curious for the song, ’cause as Petra & Mans said: “everything else is important, but the song is essential…” 😀
No Alicia Jern, I‘m so sad 🙁
