Perché Sanremo è Sanremo! In keeping with tradition, this year the Sanremese parade is full of surprises. It’s time to discover who will serve as guest at the musical party!
Twenty five singers will sing-it-out at the Ariston Theatre from 1 to 5 February 2022 for honour and glory — and the ticket to Eurovision 2022 in Turin, on home soil.
As in 2019, there will be only one category on stage, following the cancellation of the traditional distinction between Big and Newcomers.
Just like it happened three years ago, artistic director and host Amadeus chose who will compete alongside the established artists through Sanremo Giovani — a separate festival for twelve emerging artists.
When the rules were announced, it was stated that only two Newcomers would join the list of competitors, but yesterday morning, during a press conference, Amadeus changed the game again: the top 3 acts of Sanremo Giovani will compete instead at the Italian kermesse.
Let’s see who stood on the podium taking the chance to sing at the Sanremo Music Festival 2022!
Sanremo Giovani
Yuri Santos aka “Yuman”, Alberto Cotta Rasumino aka “Tananai” and Matteo Romano are the three winners of Sanremo Giovani.
Yuman is a half Italian-half Cape Verdean artist born in Rome in 1995. In 2019 he was listed by MTV Italy as artist of the month. “Mille notti“, his first track in Italian, is based on the special and complicated relationship that binds fathers and sons.
Born in Milan in 1995, Tananai released an electronic music album in 2017 under the pseudonym Not For Us. He then changed his style, approaching the Italian indie world. He collaborated with Fedez on “Le madri degli altri“, a track from the rapper’s latest album “Disumano”.
Matteo Romano is only 19 but arrives at the Festival having won a platinum disc for the song ‘Concedimi‘, which went viral on TikTok Italia and reached number two in Spotify’s Top 50 Italy.
The three artists performed live on Rai 1 along with nine other colleagues with an original song. They were judged by Amadeus himself and a professional jury.
At the end of the evening the complete ranking was not revealed, only the top 3 acts were proclaimed. They will took the stage of Sanremo 2022 with a new unreleased song, not the one they won the competition with.

Does anybody know when the songs will be out? Will they be out before the festival?
Yeeesssss! Irama is back! Ok, they set up the poor guy this year with the stupid no-live singing rules even though he was negative on COVID tests. He earned his second chance big way. I just hope the song will be competitive too.
i have seen the whole show live and no.11 senza_cri – a me was live on stage the best act by a mile!the end of the show gave me the impression that the 3 winners had already been decided in advance and live on stage performance was irrelevant. vittoria and littame were also good but not so good as senza_cri. senza_cri on stage has this magic from the french 2021 chanson but in a very italian way. what a waste – it seems that mister amadeus has too much power and the “jury” was not professional. in clear words: it… Read more »
I agree with your comment. But I think the jury had the chance to listen to the second songs for the festival in February. Senza cri ha a good voice, but the arrangement of the song wasn’t great.
This may seem an unpopular opinion but I would like to see Giusy Ferreri at the Eurovision stage. We could do with another raspy Italian singer!
It’s very popular opinion.. But she always bringing mediocre songs to the competition so my expectations for her are low.
