It’s New Year’s Eve. Aside from welcoming in another year, the day has an even bigger event for Eurovision fans — the return of the Eurovision Top 250 Countdown, often known as ESC 250.

The yearly poll sees fans pick their favourite 250 entries from the contest’s history. Voting for ESC 250 2022 took place earlier this month.

Eurovision 2012 champion Loreen has sat atop the podium for the past ten years with her song “Euphoria” — that’s also known as ‘every single year since Loreen won Eurovision’.

But all good things must come to an end. Shortly before midnight, Europe crowned a new countdown queen with Spain’s Chanel taking “SloMo” all the way to the top.

Only one other song from the 2022 contest managed to make the Top 10 — with Sweden’s Cornelia placing third, just behind Loreen. Turin alums Konstrakta, Sam Ryder, and S10 all managed to make the Top 20 too.

Last year, no songs from the cancelled 2020 contest made the Top 10, but this year Diodato managed to place 9th. His interval performance in Turin no doubt placed him firmly on many people’s minds.

In the netherlands we have a Top2000 (not eurovision related) and even a top4000. And with all the eurovision songs there are a top250 is quite low. There are 1643 eurovision songs (not even counting 2020)

I remember how Spanish people hated Chanel when she won and now they all been supportive …

People voted for it. You don’t nhave to like it but others do.

Chanel did the best diva pop performance in Eurovision and that´s the why she has won the ESC250. Helena Paparizzou was a icon for that, Eleni Foureira become an icon for that, and now Chanel. She will be remembered until another pop diva can reach her level. And we all know that is not going to happen very soon.

Really spanish fans did this? Did also the spanish fans made Chanel third in televote? Chanel was voted for 39 of 40 countries in the televote. Accept the truth. All Europe has voted for her here. Her performance is the most viewed in 2022 and the most disscussed. She made an impact and that why she won this poll.

Or just enjoy the results as they are because the point of the countdown is for the fandom to celebrate ahead of the New Year.

In the same way that taking part in fan polls will not give Warrior Nun another season beyond just having fun with it with other people.

EBU has said that Spain was second with the real points. That was the only change. Please stop being a loser and read the informantion and don´t say lies.

You can’t say that Chanel has won because of the Spanish votes, because if the Spanish vote was so powerful they would win every year the #ESC250 and they have been trying for years with Pastora Soler (2012) and Beth (2003). So no! Accept the truth, Europe decided that the new N.1 is Chanel. Of course Loreen is going to be back. But Chanel made her impact in Eurovision u can deny that, and that´s why she won.

Lol, coming from people saying everywhere that Ukraine has won only thanks from sympathy votes since 7 months and that they don’t deserved their victory, it’s hilarious. The karma always does the job and now you get back what you give. Firstly accept Ukraine victory and stop crying and screaming that Chanel is the real esc winner, it’s so misplaced and disrespecful so don’t be surprised now.

the way y’all are so mad about Spain finally achieving something in ESC speaks volumes about y’all. Chanel’s performance was amazing and that 1st place is deserved. Let us be happy about it at least, stop being so toxic.

nobody can be as toxic as the spanish fandom. You voted chanel and even had dime 8th (!) so enjoy it, you voted yourselves and you won!

You are taking this survey far too seriously. And the people who say that Chanel fans are toxic but who give an opinion and think that everyone should have the same opinion, you are just as toxic as them.

There are quite a few songs that have been in positions from 1k and beyond, and if that isn’t an indicator this wasn’t rigged then what is? Also only one (1) spanish song went down on the 2022 chart, while others got higher and higher.

Be a fan if you must, but this type of action will be the end of this 250 chart eventually.

SloMo is one of the best performances at Eurovision, ever. It may not be an amazing song, but Eurovision is much more than just a song, the visuals matter just as much as the audio aspect.

Euphoria was bound to drop from the #1 spot anytime soon, so I’m glad SloMo was the song to replace it. Now I’m just excited to see if a 2023 song will replace SloMo!

My assumption has been confirmed. “SloMo” tops the top!! I don’t like the song but I liked the show minus the pre-recorded vocals. Also, I am happy to see a new number 1! Hold tight, hold tight … “Hold Me Closer” is to me Eurovision *perfection*. I’m absolutely stoked about it landing in the third position. Wonderful storytelling reflecting true life. My personal favourite for the first spot was Sam Ryder’s “Space Man”. <3 Classic piece of music and lyrics that feels organic, honest and free-flowing. Confession: I’ve listened to “Euphoria” maybe once from start to finish ever since it… Read more »

Well done to the Spanish Eurofans voting in full force! Every action has an opposite reaction so I’m sure we’ll see Loreen rightfully return to the top spot next year. She still got 10 years at the top so we know Euphoria is the greatest Eurovision song of all time anyway.

Honey, you can’t say that Chanel has won because of the Spanish votes, because if the Spanish vote was so powerful they would win every year the #ESC250 and they have been trying for years with Pastora Soler (2012) and Beth (2003). So no! Accept the truth, Europe decided that the new N.1 is Chanel. Of course Loreen is going to be back. But Chanel made her impact in Eurovision u can deny that.

The Spanish really went all out this year to vote for themselves. We all know SloMo is good purely because of the performance, the song is just generic. I love Chanel but her fans are so toxic. Yall really ruining eurovision for everyone

Wow, I’m spanish and I didn’t expect that, considering Loreen had been winning this poll for 10 years straight!

As much as I love “Euphoria” and “Slo mo” (both in my top 3 from their respective years), neither of them is in my top 10 of favourites songs ever.

Also, looking at the top 250, it’s a bit disappointing to see that songs before the year 2000 don’t get much recognition. There are a lot of overlooked gems.

LOL, hope it was bitter and hurt your insides then when you vomited!
I hope for our sake next year Cornelia wins. Or Loreen. Or really anything from Sweden. At least it would be the highlight of the year, knowing you possibly and preferably slowly throws up your food knowing a Swedish song won! Nothing would be sweeter than that, a nice “revenge”
Hope you have pea soup, it always comes out in cascades when vomited

Interesting attempt at an insult, albeit a failed one. If Sweden wins then that’s fine, but for that to happen they need to send something that’s actually worthy of it, instead of being 85% jury bait and 15% bad cliché lyrics. All of Sweden’s winning entries in Eurovision are fantastic in their own way (except maybe Herreys, that one is quite mid-field) so we KNOW Sweden can do amazing things, they just don’t seem to want to do that anymore. It seems instead Sweden has no interest in catching up to Ireland’s win count, since they’ve sent nothing worth noting… Read more »

Of course it won the semifinal because 2022’s quality was the lowest of any Eurovision event since 2011. Particularly the 2nd semifinal had very little to offer that would actually end up doing well in the final. Sweden and Serbia were the only 2 countries from SF2 who went on to finish in the top 5, let alone top 10. Let’s also not forget that semifinal two also had Azerbaijan, N. Macedonia, Montenegro, Georgia, San Marino, Israel and Malta, all of those were quite heavily disliked by the fandom throughout the entire season and were never gonna do well. Poland… Read more »

Stop generalizing. There can be millions of Spanish Eurovision fans. And it’s tiring to see people talking about “The Spanish eurofans” and saying mean things about all of us for what a bunch of noisy ones decide to do (the may seem a lot, but in proportion to the entirety, they’re not).

I think y’all should understand that it wasn’t Eurovision fans who bullied her. It was casual viewers, middle-age people who tuned in to the Benidorm Fest, couldn’t care less about Eurovision but loves being messy and accusing others of cheating. Also people from Galicia, who wanted Tanxugueiras to win for political reasons and got extremely angry when they didn’t. Most Eurovision fans supported her when she won.

Chanel did the best diva pop performance in Eurovision. Helena Paparizzou was a icon for that, Eleni Foureira become an icon for that, and now Chanel. She will be remembered until another pop diva can reach her level. And we all know that is not going to happen very soon.

Happy to see that something different came to nr.1. SloMo does reflect contemporary music and sung in a non-English language, which is a big plus. It also reflects a generational change of the Eurovision fans. It was time that Euphoria quit being nr 1, as it is not ageing well, imho. On a negative side, I see that there is no historical perspective at all in this list, which makes me sad because Eurovision is not only about the songs of the past year (we see a lot of them in the list) but also its legacy. I invite all… Read more »

Up until this year, I would always vote for my actual top 10 all-time favourite Eurovision songs, but this year I finally – well, partly – figured out how this poll works – meaning that for many songs the only chance to make this list at all is only the same year they took part – and decided to use that. So I’ve included 4 songs from 2022 to my list, even tho only 1 of them has actually managed to get to my real top 10. 3 of them have made the list.

Chanel, the real winner of the ESC 2022. Kalush Orchestra being placed 39th on that poll says a lot on their victory in May… They earned votes because of that sad war. But now that everything is not centered around Ukraine, look where they are now. Don’t get me wrong.

Maybe because this thing is a pure eurofan thing and only an eurofan thing , it’s a niche, this fandom is totally apart and often out of the reality. Kalush Orchestra have not won thanks to the eurofans but thanks to the general public like the last jesc winner althought. But you also can’t deny that some specific eurofans have not voted for them intentionally and we all know why. Anyway they are still the esc 2022 winners and will be forever, Stefania is still a very good song. It’s still more prestigious to win Eurovision rather than to be… Read more »

Well it’s subjective, I don’t feel it’s the best perf ever neither the best song, maybe because I’m not a spaniard but you can’t deny that the exacerbated patriotism due to a misplaced frustration has won this esc250 year and nothing else. The spanish eurofans wanted this and they got it mainly thanks to themselves, I don’t get where they find a satisfaction in acting like that and where you can find some proudness in that.

SloMo is an average song, visually and vocally choreographed and performed within an inch of its life, Chanel deserves this victory and it’s all perfectly timed to throw the gauntlet down to Loreen.
