New music this week: Songs from Raiven, Nebulossa, Mustii and more

Although we’re officially into the Eurovision 2025 season, it will still be some time before we hear any national final and Eurovision songs. Thankfully, the music will always continue and a number of Eurovision artists are still producing new songs for us to enjoy.

Contrary to the commonly perpetuated myth about the song contest killing careers, we’re always thrilled to report that singers associated with Eurovision are thriving.

Here is our latest weekly roundup with a selection of the songs released recently by Eurovision stars.

New music from Eurovision artists: 2024 | Week 37

Raiven feat. Micka Lifa – “Mama”

Mother is here. After uplifting the voices of other women at Eurovision 2024, Raiven is now taking a moment to reference herself but also express deep gratitude to those who supported her journey to Malmö. With “Mama”, the Slovenian star has taken the affectionate name used by her fans and given it a musical identity: “Mother shining in the spotlight / A mother who only gives attention to girls / Mother who danced naked on stage / They call me mother.” Raiven is joined on the song by Serbian rapper Micka Lifa, and the pair premiered the track at Belgrade Pride.

LUNA – “Wild West”

“Welcome to the real wild west / Better keep your cards up to your chest / No one’s gonna hear an SOS / Life will always put you to the test / No time to rest / Wild west.”

LUNA is heading west. The Polish star has crafted a pop piece that acts as a critique of today’s world. She examines the idealistic values people strive for and the challenges this puts in place. The Eurovision 2024 star explains more in the description of the music video set at a private auction:

“‘Wild West’ was written just before the Eurovision contest. This song gives a profound reflection on the challenges of the modern world. The song paints today’s reality as a harsh and unpredictable place where one must develop a thick skin and constantly fight for their place. The titular ‘Wild West’ symbolizes a land of endless possibilities—a place where dreams can be fulfilled, and where one can discover and pursue their true self. However, it is far from being an ideal world, certainly not Eden. The ‘Wild West” is governed by brutal and often unforgiving rules that may require difficult decisions and sacrifices.”

Nebulossa – “COTILLEO”

You care cordially invited to the Nebulossa ball. The Spanish duo are following up their Eurovision participation with another fun electropop track filled with plenty of 80’s synths. This time around, Mery and Mark are dealing with the topic of “COTILLEO” (“Gossip”). They’re not letting your little sly comments get them down, and they certainly don’t plan on paying any attention to what people aren’t able to say to their faces: “I don’t know why but it makes me happy / You talking behind my back doesn’t affect me anymore / I’m very aware that I’m the perfect target for you / I know what you think but it doesn’t pay off for me anymore, no / Getting into a back and forth of disagreements, no / Because of an unfair comment / A piece of sh*t gossip.”

Sarah Bonnici – “Love You Like That”

First there was “Loop;” then came “Lose;” and now we have another song beginning with L — “Love You Like That.” Malta’s Sarah Bonnici serves up another bop with her new single. It sees the Eurovision 2024 star dealing with a toxic relationship that she’s not quite able to escape from: “You took me and just played me / I tasted your sweet lies / But when you’re here, I want you near / You got me goin’ crazy / You got me fallin’ to my knees / Can you just tell me if it’s real / Please.” In a note on Instagram, Sarah revealed this concludes her trilogy of L-titled songs and that she’s moving on to a new era of her music:

“This song is very special to me – It is the 3rd out of 3 releases starting with the letter L. This symbolism also reflects my musical journey, where with this song I will be closing a chapter of my musical career and opening a beautiful new one.”

Mustii – “TELL THE KIDS IT’S ALRIGHT”

Mustii’s party came to premature end at Eurovision 2024 after failing to qualify for the grand final. But with his follow-up single, the Belgian star is reassuring us that things are still running smoothly: “Tell the kids I’m alright / Tell the kids I’m all fine / I’m just a little insane / Tell the kids it’s alright / Tell the kids I’m fine / But I’ll never be the same.” Mustii serves up a tune that splices together elements of pop and glam rock. It highlights the lower end of his vocal range and quickly get listeners tapping along to the beat. Revealing more about the background to the song, Mustii commented:

“It’s a response to ‘Before The Party’s Over.’ In that song I painted a portrait of an anxious generation. ‘TELL THE KIDS IT’S ALRIGHT’ is an attempt to answer the questions raised in BTPO. It’s an encouragement to overcome difficulties and traumas and to come out stronger. It’s also a very personal song about my state of mind in the aftermath of Eurovision, an extraordinary adventure that took me through the worst and the best.”

Marija Šerifović – Uvek si mi govorilla

Marija Šerifović gained her musical prowess from her mother, Verica Šerifović. An acclaimed folk singer, Verica was Marija’s first teacher and is a big part of the Serbian star’s journey — that includes a victory at Eurovision 2007. To thank her mother, and celebrate her 61st birthday, Marija has shared the new LP Uvek si mi govorilla (You always told me), where she has recorded new versions of Verica’s hits. As an extra gift, Marija surprised her mother with a private concert where she performed the eight tracks live.

Ben Cristovao & Rohony – “vo co kurva de”

Ben Cristovao is letting off some steam with this latest track. Czechia’s Eurovision 2021 performer features with Rohony on “vo co kurva de” (“what the f*ck is going on”). It’s an angsty rap offering that sees Cristovao spitting lines with passion. In a post on social media, he noted what was running through his mind:

“I will use this release for one thing that is close to my heart. This year I made the EP Hra1 with Nik Tendo, which was the thing I was looking forward to the most and I was very happy about it, but I let it be ruined by judgment from people who don’t really know me or my work and don’t know, just words and lyrics have always been part of my songs. It took away my joy from music so much that I didn’t know if I wanted to do it at all, because if I can’t be free in it and I have to do only what is expected, I’m basically an employee, which I don’t want to be, that’s why I ran away from a corporation. Then Rohony came to our studio and I caught saliva and had a seizure. I’ll write the most stupid chorus in my life and either people will deal with it or not. Thank you for trusting, Rohony.”

Amir – C Amir

After multiple weeks of build-up, we now have Amir’s new studio album. Titled C Amir, the LP makes reference to the death of the singer’s mother, Carmi, and other personal topics close to Amir’s heart. As a result, the 12 tracks feature a lot of emotion, and ballads generally take centre stage. Those wanting something more upbeat to dance to should head to track #9, “Encore,” which adds in more electronic beats. The entire album was written in the space of 10 days, as France’s Eurovision 2016 star noted on Instagram:

“Last January, I asked 10 friends to go down south with me, to Villa Kamila, to write together. We arrived empty-handed, we promised to come back with an album. We had 10 days to do it. 12 songs were born there, the most important of my career.”

Eleftheria Eleftheriou – “Ola Allazoune”

Time never stands still and things around us are always evolving. But although “Ola Allazoune” (“Everything changes”), Eleftheria Eleftheriou knows that the one constant in her life will be the love she and her partner share: “Everything changes and everything leaves in a hurry / Love, after all, if it’s worth it, it stays / And everything seems borrowed in our lives / But the flame in the gaze will always bind us.” Greece’s Eurovision 2012 star gifts us a catchy bop to shake away any autumnal blues that might gradually be creeping in.

KALUSH & Krasna Tysha – “Тиші немає”

The KALUSHcollab series has officially reached its 20th entry. The artist who joins the Eurovision 2022 winner for this milestone is Krasna Tysha. “Тиші немає” (“There is no silence”) is a steady track in which KALUSH showcases the lower end of his vocal register. The Ukrainian pair sing/rap about a person they would overcome many obstacles to be with: “Through the rain, through the snow, I would run to you / I would swim across hundreds of seas to you / I would overcome the mountains, I would kill all the dragons / To feel the warmth of your palms […] You took the slate off my roof / And since then there is no silence in the heart / There is no silence, there is no silence.”

Roxen & Liviu Teodorescu – “Nu pleca”

Eurovision 2021 star Roxen has teamed up with fellow Romanian singer Liviu Teodorescu for the ballad “Nu pleca” (“Don’t leave”). The lyrical story of the song sees the pair discussing their former romance. Although they have parted and gone their separate ways, both have a part of them that wishes they had never left one another: “I would give you my life but please don’t leave / My years and love, I miss you / I would give you my life but please don’t leave / Please listen to my heart.” The accompanying music video sees both Roxen and Liviu making a valiant effort at battling the wind machine.

Kalomira – “Happy Birthday To You”

If someone you know has a birthday coming up soon, then Kalomira just dropped the exact song you need for the celebration. Admittedly, it’s aimed at those in relationships, with Greece’s Eurovision 2008 star singing “Just me and my baby / This is my birthday song for you / Happy, happy birthday” — so maybe don’t play it for acquaintances you don’t know that well. Kalomira shared more detail about the song’s history on social media:

“Last year, I surprised my husband with a special song I wrote for his birthday, ‘Happy Birthday to You,’ and the response was incredible! So many of our friends at the party were asking about it, and since his birthday is coming up again, I thought I’d share it with all of you! It’s a cheerful, fun song perfect for celebrating birthdays, name days, or any special occasion!”

TVORCHI – Planet X

TVORCHI are taking us to their own musical planet. The Ukrainian duo’s new studio album, Planet X, brings together 15 tracks that delves into the many facets of their electropop style. The songs switch between dark synths, strong guitar lines, piano melodies, elements of funk, and more. Writing about the new release on Instagram, the Eurovision 2023 act explained why this LP offers such variety:

“This is the album in which we have invested all the experiences of the last 3 years of life, all emotions. We started working on it before the war, and finished it not so long ago, already after Eurovision, after everything that happened in the country and turned the lives of each of us upside down. All these so different periods you feel when listening. From Supernatural to Mysterious From Dreamers to Is It Over. Such contrasting tracks as our lives are now. The album is a roller coaster that pumps so up, so sharply down. Experimental, psychedelic, futuristic. For us, this is the most iconic release of the band’s entire existence: in terms of depth and production.”

Blind Channel – “EVERYBODY (BLOODBROS BACK)”

Ever wondered what the Backstreet Boys would sound like as a metal band? Well now you can find out, because Blind Channel have released their own version of the American group’s iconic hit “Everybody.” The band add in plenty of heavy guitar riffs to take the song in a new direction. Speaking in a video on social media, Finland’s Eurovision 2021 representatives revealed that the inspiration for recording this cover stems from negative comments they received at the start of their careers:

“Back in 2013 when we started this band, we had these white outfits and basically looked like a bunch of Justin Biebers despite playing at metal festivals. Not everyone liked that, and as an insult they started to call us the Backstreet Boys of the metal scene. We’ve always loved provoking people and turning nasty comments to our advantage, and so the joke went on in everything we did, be it matching boyband outfits or live show choreography. Now, ten years later, they’re finally getting what’s coming to them — our version of Backstreet Boys’ ‘Everybody’.”

DJ Astronaut – “MMH”

Subwoolfer are allowing DJ Astronaut take the spotlight for a moment. The intergalactic DJ has dropped “MMH,” a house track that aims to get the party going — whether it be on Earth or in outer space. Lyrically, the tune is very simple, with the Eurovision 2022 entrant saying they want to turn the heat up: “I gotta leave any minute / But I’ll take my time / Make you feel the high tonight / Want to make you feel the rhythm / Girl, I’ll make you go / I’ll make you go MMH.”

Robin Bengtsson – “Hometown”

Robin Bengtsson was born in Svenljunga, Sweden. But for the purposes of his new song, he’s claimed a “small Texas town” as home. The Eurovision 2017 participant is continuing to explore a country music style, singing alongside an acoustic guitar and percussion accompaniment. Even if he’s travelled to the big city lights, Bengtsson reveals that his heart is still in his hometown: “It may not look like much / It’s countryside rough / But it’s everything I want it to be / In my hometown / All the memories are glowing / Every street and every corner holds a piece of me.”

Elnur Hussein & Etibar Asadli – Tales of the Desert

Two-time Eurovision entrant Elnur Hussein has collaborated with pianist Etibar Asadli for the new EP Tales of the Desert. The artists have crafted three tracks that bridge the ancient with the modern, blending traditional Azerbaijani motifs with alternative electronic music. Commenting about this immersive sonic experience on Instagram, Hussein noted:

“‘Tales of the Desert’ transports you to the vast, tranquil expanse of the desert. Each composition evokes a meditative, calming atmosphere, akin to a lullaby carried by the desert winds, gently guiding you through the shifting sands and into a trance-like state.”

Voltaj – “Să fie, să fie!”

Why can’t we live every day like a festival? That’s the question Voltaj ask in their new single “Să fie, să fie!” (“Let it be, let it be!”). Romania’s Eurovision 2015 band try to keep the summer spirit alive with an energetic track that blends rap verses with a pop rock chorus. They encourage us to tap into this high-energy feeling even when things might be going wrong in our lives: “And when it’s worse for us / Let it be like a festival day / Let it be like a sunrise on the shore / Let it be perfume / Let’s give it volume.”

Emmelie de Forest – “Lovers Lullaby”

It’s been three years since we last had new music from Emmelie de Forest. But now the Eurovision 2013 champion is back with “Lovers Lullaby.” A delicate track with stripped-back production, it’s not actually Emmelie who is singing the lullaby — instead, she asks her partner to comfort her and sing one: “Just hold me through the night / Until we meet the morning light / Sing for me / A lovers lullaby.” The lyrics are based on the Danish star’s experiences of night terrors, which she has been inflicted with throughout her life:

“It affects my sleep a lot like it affects my partner, because of course he gets a shock every time he is woken up by the fact that I’m having an episode. The song is about the fact that sometimes you just need to be reassured and to be told that it’s okay and that everything’s going to be alright. So it’s a song that contains both infatuation and love and what is difficult, which in my case are my night terrors”.

Thankfully, we won’t have to wait quite so long for Emmelie’s next song. This marks the first single from her new album that will be released in the near future.

Jeangu Macrooy – “Happier”

“How the hell did my parents do this, having kids at 25 / I’m almost 30 and I can barely keep my plants alive.”

Jeangu Macrooy is having an early-life crisis. Through his new song, “Happier,” the Eurovision 2021 star contemplates on where things are going (or aren’t going): “I’m a mess half of the time / I don’t know what’s going on in my mind […] Trying to hide behind the smile / Thought I would be happier by now.” In the second verse, the Surinamese singer-songwriter puts all these problems into perspective and realises that many people around the world have it worse than him.

Riskykidd, Cheat & SiMKO – “BUSY”

Riskykidd has been “BUSY” since representing Greece at Eurovision 2014. In the rapper’s latest single, produced by Cheat and SiMKO, he notes that he doesn’t need help from a record label to draw in the fans: “I ain’t sign no label deals / My phone lines busy / Ching u up good / Make you look pretty / Ain’t a G in the endz who doesn’t know Risky / Soon as I drop that merch the order come quickly.”

Icee Drag On & Amandine Bourgeois – “#Fear in the Night”

Icee Drag On’s singing skills took them to the grand final of La France a un incroyable talent 2021 (France’s version of the Got Talent franchise), performing Conchita Wurst’s “Rise Like A Phoenix.” The drag talent is keeping the Eurovision connections going by now collaborating with 2013 alumna Amandine Bourgeois on “#Fear in the Night.” A dark ’80s-inspired synth pop tune, the pair warn us of an impending storm: “Can you feel the power of the storm? / Can you control the fear that is born in you? / Do you feel these intense moments? / These moments that haunt your nights forever / The storm is coming.”

Angelina Mango, Olly & JVLI – “Per due come noi”

Italian singer Olly and music producer JVLI wrote “Per due come noi” (“For Two Like Us”) together last year. But before they could release it, they needed to find the perfect accompanying voice for this pop duet — they found that in Eurovision 2024 star Angelina Mango. The song tells the story of two people who used to be in a relationship. Olly hopes to rekindle the romance and believes there is still a spark between the two of them: “Don’t pretend nothing’s happening, no / If you want, I’ll tell you I swear / If you want I’ll shout it to you / Even under the downpour / There’s no one like us.” However, Angelina doesn’t want to live in the past and would rather walk into the future on separate paths: “But you know me and you know / That someone like me / Never goes back / Rather goes forward on broken glass.”

Deep Zone Project – “Непознати Улици”

“Непознати Улици” (“Unknown Streets”) was first released by Bulgarian pop-rock group Mary Boys Band in 2000. Now, Eurovision 2008 participants Deep Zone Project have re-worked the hit. This new version intertwines the original song with electro house beats that make the song club ready.
