In a much-anticipated announcement, Australia will once again take the stage at Eurovision 2025.

The news was unveiled during the SBS Upfronts, where the broadcaster shared its plans for their upcoming 2025 slate of television shows, including the upcoming edition of Eurovision in Basel.

In a blink-and-you-will-miss-it press release, captured by TV Tonight, SBS say:

The Eurovision Song Contest returns to SBS in 2025! The world’s largest live music event is a serious cultural force and a whole lot of fun, celebrating music and artistry from across the globe. This year’s event reached over 163 million viewers across the globe live from Malmö, Sweden, after Loreen’s historic 2023 win in Liverpool, UK. In 2024, Switzerland’s Nemo took out the title with their song The Code. Australia has participated in the contest since 2015, creating a legacy of sending truly unique artists to share their talents on the biggest platform in the world. Who will represent Australia in Basel, Switzerland 2025?

While there has been no announcement as to the selection process for Australia’s entrant, it can be presumed that the selection will be internal, as done since 2023.

Since debuting in 2015, Australia has made a notable impact on Eurovision, frequently finishing in the top ten and earning a reputation for high-quality performances. Australia would be hoping to capture lightning in a bottle similar to standout entries from artists like Dami Im and Guy Sebastian. Australia’s commitment to participate in 2025 reaffirms its place in the Eurovision family, a decision now made on a year-by-year basis.

No doubt the rumour mill will now reach overdrive as to who will be Australia’s entrant for 2025 – Dami Im has previously expressed a desire to return, while Dannii Minogue was heavily rumoured last year. Former Australia Decides entrant, Leea Nanos, has also previously expressed intent, and has put her name forward as an entrant for Greece’s upcoming national final.

hopefully AUSTRALIA GETS TO CHOOSE instead of the faceless men again. Im sick of the rubbish entries like the 2024 entry that we have been sending. Lets give Eurovision the true Aussie flavour instead of trying to mimick the Eurovision style. The only way we can do that is let Australia choose like every other country

Just imagine Tina Arena belting out a tune for Australia. With her huge popularity in Europe this could be a winning move.

I hope they send Jaguar Jonz. She had two excellent songs when we had national selections that narrowly missed out on winning and a standout song with Kate Miller Heidke. Maybe send both!

They miss out on a lot of news, although they’d never miss anything about Ukraine for example, or drama

Ive also noticed that. Perhaps they are sponsored by some Ukranians? Which makes me consider to switch to another Eurovision news provider

I didn’t consider that a posibility, I just figured they favour them because of the war, unfairly of course
We already have some first names for Eesti Laul and yet – nothing.
Anything from Ukraine or Bambie Thug – gets some attention.

I think Sia will represent Australia. She is way better than the Taylor Swift.

Kudos to Australia! So much more enthusiastic and professional and better prepared than many long-standing members of the ebu.

Actually, Armenia and Moldova have also not publicly confirmed that They are returning to eurovision 2025 like Poland. Poland is not the last 2024 participant standing.

Moldova and Armenia pretty much never confirm participation until the actual list drops. I’m sure 2025 is no different

Did TVP just vaporise from existence? Why are they so silent lately?

Well, they actually did 🙂 Since Dec 2023 their legal status is “under liquidation” – it has to do with the internal politics in Poland, no need to elaborate it further here. Our personal opinion is that if TVP could, they would have chosen to cease to participate, but Eurovision has gained so much “grassroot” interest (surprisingly also through the Junior ESC), that they no longer can without a huge mess;) We do not know if it is true, but this is how it feels. Please note the last time Poland withdrew was not when PiS governed, but when the… Read more »

Oh! I didn’t know the situation there is messed up, I’m surprised they still kept it together and managed to take part in 2024. Thanks for the info.

well doubt TVP had to pay a lot for 2024 contest participation, considering Luna comes from the Dawtona supermarket tycoon family Wielgomas

and they could take part in 2025, with JoJo Siwa who might fund it all herself too
