He took Romania to fourth place at Eurovision 2006 with the euro-classic “Tornero.” And now Mihai Trăistariu says he may put his name in the hat for Vienna. Speaking to Romanian publication Libertatea he said:

“I’ve also seen the rumors that we might be going to Eurovision again. I’m always keeping an eye on things, though not necessarily prepared. I’m waiting to see an official decision, because in previous years there have been similar discussions that didn’t end up happening.”

“If it does happen, I actually have a song from two years ago that I had put on hold, from Finland, produced by the team behind The Voice of Finland. Every year they ask me: ‘So, are we participating with it? Are you going to any country?’ And I told them I’m waiting for Romania!”

“If it’s officially announced, maybe in a month or two I’ll make two or three more songs—I’ll see which studios I can work with. I’d like to give it a try and see what happens! This year, I hope they invite me to the jury if I don’t have a song, because they haven’t invited me in about ten years—they skipped me! That’s what I say!”

Romania, of course, has officially confirmed its participation. Its President-General issued an effusive statement earlier this week in which he thanked the European Broadcasting Union for being flexible with Romania’s participation — given the difficulties the broadcaster there currently faces.

The EBU also confirmed the news with a post on the official Eurovision Instagram account.
