The bookies are keeping us on our well-pedicured toes. Since our last update on May 5, and following the First Semi-Final on Tuesday, the odds to win Eurovision 2017 are shifting, suggesting a proper two-horse race between Italy’s Francesco Gabbani and Portugal’s Salvador Sobral.
The “Amar pelos dois” singer has moved into a solid second position with odds as low as 2/1, with the majority of bookies slashing Salvador’s odds to as low as 6/4.
He’s now nipping at the heels of Italy‘s Francesco Gabbani, whose odds have widened slightly since the airing of his snippet during the semi final one broadcast. His odds have now risen to 11/10 — the first time they have been above 1 in a very long time.
This suggests that Portugal performed very well in its semi-final, giving the bookies’ added confidence he could slow Italy’s momentum.
Another big mover after the first semi final is Belgium.
Ahead of today’s semi the Eurovision community worried that Blanche‘s underwhelming rehearsals might upend her chances of advancing.
But she delivered a strong performance during the semi-final and woke up to find herself in the iTunes charts in 19 different countries. She’s now moved from tenth in the betting odds five days ago to fourth today. At this rate she’s going to peak just in time for the grand final.
Further down the list we see big movements from the United Kingdom.
Lucie Jones — a West End star and X Factor veteran — is a story of progression. The original version of her song left us saying meh. But she brought it to life live at the UK selection, gave it a proper revamp to pull it into 2017 and arrived in Kyiv with epic staging that has seen her rocket up the odds table.
She’s moved from twenty-second in the odds to fifth in just five days.

Sweden is overrated. I love italy, bulgaria, uk, nethelerlands
I hope you will support the great voice from denmark anja. We gonna need your support please because ukraine has decides we shoul sibg between to big faves italy and portugal. Thank you from denmark
I love the song from uk and will vite for lucue especially because she si gs so goid and emmelie has wtitten it. I hope italy or bulgaria wins pirtugal is so skeeping melody for me. From denmark
Final note before I shut up:
I think people have forgotten how dominating Italy has been this season, just because it wasn’t in semifinal. It won OGAE with most points ever, polls predict he would win easily and the hype surrounding him is bigger than Rybak & Loreen put together. It really is Italy’s year.
Anything but an Italian win would be quite weird actually..
UK does well with ballads 2nd in 1988 by just one Point, 3rd 2009, 5th 2009 I haven’t heard all songs but it clear five UK, ITALY , PORTUGAL BULGARIA ARE MAIN CONTENDERS. IF UK Does not win I like to see Portugal win nice song and have never won. I cant understand the ape in Italys song song ok without it, love the country with Ferrari, Frankie Dettori, Its a Knockout – Jeux San Frontieres but its silly I would love UK to finally end 20 years of hurt my message to televoters in Europe UK don’t hate you… Read more »
I haven’t heard all the songs yet but its clear where the main contenders are UK , Italy, Bulgaria, Sweden as usual. I love to see UK do well and actually WIN the great thing about Eurovision its on the night and I remember when UK last won in 1997 with the still fab Katrina and The Waves Love Shine a Light we were 19-20 in running order and
You are all insane TBH. Lucie has it in the bag.
Semi final 1 was a karoke Contest, and Lucie was the only credible artist among them
Can Moldova win?
For the first semi final I think this was the overall results
1-Portugal
2-Armenia
3-Azerbaijan
4- Belgium
5-Sweden
6-Poland
7-Moldova
8-Cyprus
9-Greece
10- Australia
11-Albania
12-Finland
13-Georgia
14-Latvia
15-Czechia
16-Iceland
17-Slovenia
18-Montenegro
I am still devastated after Albania’s non qualification !!! It was my winner 🙁 🙁
I agree with your top 5, I think same as you
If few Scandinavian countries get through, and so far we only have 1, where will all of those points go? With Sweden being late in draw, could it make a come back and take the win?
Ok, let’s try to explain it in english: What I think is that Italy, being one of the first countries releasing their song, right now it can not help them. We already know the lyrics and choreography and yes, we do love it, but there’s nothing more to show that can surprise us (not even the ape). On the other side, Portugal can still surprise people (I’m portuguese so I’ve listen it a million times and saw all the rehearsals but tuesday’s performance still got me like “wooow!!” ) I don’t know if I’m being reasonable here or is just… Read more »
This music of Salvador Sobral is the best!
EUROVISION is not for movie producers….
Salvador only use a Microphone to sing and not need a show stage whith massive virtual effects…!
EUROVISION is for sing and not for Music vídeo…!
The only one that is real is Salvador, voice + piano + string NO MORE VIRTUAL EFFECTS!!!!
Italy and bulgaria have massive effects and and unreal voice treatment…!
I’m Italian and appreciate both songs, but we have to acknowledge that Italian and Portuguese people are lacking objectivety (which I totally understand, it’s normal to root for your own country, after all). You can’t speak on behalf of everyone though. Most people will hear the songs for the first or second time on Saturday night, they might get surprised by the energic and entertaining performance by Francesco or get moved by Salvador’s touching voice. There is no such thing as “nothing can surprise us”. There are way too many people watching and voting to get an idea of who… Read more »
Italy has constantly been at top since the song won, and it hasn’t moved away from the top spot. Besides it won the OGAE with record number of points getting 12 from almost every country. Everyone predicts it will be a landslide win for Italy, bigger than Rybak or Loreen. Don’t think Portugal or any country will be able to reach Italy. Besides Italy is almost loved by everyone. Portugal is far more divisive, it really is a 50/50 song. Some love it, some hate it. And finally the hit factor has to be inlcluded as well, since that is… Read more »
This year ESC is kind of giving me vibes of Mello this year, everybody was saying Wiktoria or Nano will win , and bum the winner is Robin. Not saying that Sweden will win but I think that winner isn’t between top 3 predicted by the bookies right now.
Although I do not think Italy will win by a landslide, it could easily take the top spot. If Francesco improves his vocals, he could have the juries support too. It was a big hit before and I don’t think anyone else could win the televoting, to be fair honest. However, I do not underestimate Portugal. The song is divisive and might not stand out on Saturday night when we will hear at least other 15 ballads after him, but he has huge support and is beloved. The commentators could also point out he has a heart disease and that… Read more »
My prediction:
Italy, Portugal, Armenia & UK are the top 10 safe bets. Of them, I see Only Italy or Portugal winning. Belgium will be 8th-12th, Moldova OR Bulgaria will go top 5, but not both, and Sweden will be the flop of the final.
Here’s what I think. 1.) United Kingdom and Portugal are two most deserving winners of ESC 2017, Portugal’s staging and song is just incredible and with the UK the overall package from start to end with staging is exquisite. 2.) Italy’s entry maybe catchy and I like THE AUDIO not the music video. The staging however I’m not impressed with its just too “Look at me, Look at me, Look at me,” is just too much it a bit like Georgia last year in Stockholm its just too much. 3.) Belgium didn’t deserve to qualify on Tuesday if I’m being… Read more »
Uk amazing and Belgium didn’t deserve to qualify ? Oh pleeeeease !
The songs are hard to compare… But it is a song contest, not a singing or staging contest… In that department, Belgium, Portugal and Italy are serving inspired, quality songs and I think that that will be the jury’s top 3. I like the staging of the UK and she has the best voice in the contest, but the song just is not up to the level of those 3. The best overall package is probably Portugal, but in the televote, anything can happen. I expect a tight race on Saturday! And don’t rule out Azerbeijan, Armenia or France (probably… Read more »
As a portuguese fan I hope Salvador wins but my new favorite is Azerbaijan. Belgium lost her magic but I really think Italy and Portugal gonna have an epic fight for the first place.
Will you vote for denmark please we need it because we sing rigtht before ypu great song from portugal
Hey guys, check out this video on Semi-Final 1 and let me know what you think!! I would love to read your thoughts on the result! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJPA40szVZQ
I think that betters were being cautious on Portugal before the semi-final, in case it was too slow tempo to qualify.
But now that it’s in the final, I can understand the odds shortening. I think it’s the next mostly likely to win should Italy come short.
I’m voting for the UK! It’s the only one that gives me goosebumps.
Sadly i think Bulgaria will win as the east will pack vote
Not just the east, but Balkan too.
It’s just disappointing to see one sided bias shown to Portugal by a number of members from Wiwibloggs. Yes song is lovely. It be nice to see other songs and artists given the same fawning over that Portugal has received. If you go by the iTunes Charts at the moment Belgium would win the Tele votes. 1. Italy has strong appeal to radio friendly audiences 2. Belguim out selling Portugal on the iTunes Charts 3. Bulgaria strong and powerful voice. 4. UK out side chance Like semi final 1 both semi final 2 and grand final will challenge the predicted… Read more »
You will have a great time in London 2018
I reckon Cardiff 2018 because Lucie is Welsh! 🙂
Bulgaria? Why does nearly everybody here commenting, likes this years Bulgarian song?
In my eyes and ears it is dull and boring. Three wasted minutes of my lifetime. Nothing touches me. And it has an absolutely forgettable melody.
On another note, did I miss something funny with the Verka sketch? Or was it a complete waste of time?
u missed something funny
It was fun, but not necessarily funny.
You know, I don’t thin Portugal or any other act will overtake Italy. Italy has been the constant favourite since he was announced, and hasn’t moved away from the top spot. The one thing that can stop them is if the performance turns out to be below expectations. If last night’s performance was anything to go by we are headed for a disappointment..Hope I am wrong!
Portugal is to divisive to win, you either love it or hate it.
Divisive is good.
It is better for instance if 10% of the audience has a song as their favorite and the rest has it in last place, than for everyone to have the song as their number 10, or number 2-5 even, as people only vote for their favorites.
Jury members rank 1-42 so that is a bit different ofc.
Yes, but if the purpose is to win which many countries seem to aim for then divisive isn’t good. You must appeal to all, not just 10%. That won’t give you enough votes to win.
Portugal doesn’t have a mass appeal. Some love it, some hate it. It’s a true 50/50 song, not universally loved and praised.
Italy on the other hand is more appealing and more people love it than hate it. So therefore it has the edge.
If you look at youtube atm you can see that Portugal is by far the most viewed video of last night. It doesn’t predict the winner but it generally shows you that it had enough of an impact to warrant a second viewing. I honestly think it won the televote, the ones that do well on youtube are the ones people voted for most.
No, you don’t have to appeal to all. You only need a big enough percentage to vote for you. 20% should be plenty enough to win televote. Jamala last year certainly didn’t appeal to all, in fact many hated it, but it got 2nd in televote nonetheless. In 2015, the opera song from Italy managed to win televote by a fairly large margin. Thing is, you can’t down vote a song, so it doesn’t matter how many people hate it. The only thing that matters is how many have it as their favorite. Besides, Amar pelos Dois is charting all… Read more »
Yes, but the whole country is backing this entry, and there’s also Spain, a super Eurovision fan nation.
The same applies to Italy’s 100 million views, since it’s a Sanremo winner song.
I think we need to wait and see.
I don’t get odds. What does it mean when a country has odds of 6/4
I googled an explanation but still… very weird.
They are the value of that multiplies the amount you bet, and odds are used to predict favorites, like in sports.
Odds basically describe probability. If a song has odds 3/2 to win, that means “out of 5 times, the song will win 2 times and lose 3 times” which is the same as a probability of 40%. If you bet on a song at 3/2 odds and it wins, you will get your money back plus 3/2 (150%) of your bet. So a €100 bet at 3/2 odds can win €250. Only the British isles use fractional odds (3/2). The rest of Europe uses decimal odds (2.5) which basically just shows the multiplier for how much money you get back.… Read more »
I’m getting a feeling that Belgium (yes…Belgium!) won SF1.
Yesterday I was convinced that was Armenia or Portugal. Idk anything now.
Do you know what a “feeling” = ?
I can tell you… it means absolutely nothing 🙂
don’t worry, it’s gone now.
Televote maybe, but juries?
Juries should be punishing her vocal, especially when so many other singers nailed theirs. I would be surprised if Belgium was in the top ten with juries.
Poland is the real darkhorse nobody talks about.. but will get much televoting points…
I agree Poland is really underrated. I saw many positive comments about her performance and if she will be again so good vocally she will be at least top 15, maybe top 10.
Poland is only a dark horse because even if Poland finishes last with the juries, it will finish top 3 with viewers thanks to the diaspora votes, but there’s no way she’s going to win.
Yes, Polish diaspora is definitely in 41 countries. Please, don’t be silly. It’s impossible to be in top 3 televote only because of diaspora.
Well last year that almost happened to Poland. Did it do well cause it was such a great song? Nope, it was due to diaspora. Something tha thas been an issue with Poland since thier return.
Poland have diaspora from 1999 and they not get many points from televote. Two time televote pushed them in 2014 and 2016. In 2014 many people not only polish diaspora vote for that song , because staging of song not for song. In 2016 , also people vote for Poland because they like song. We saw video on many eurovision parties in many countries that many sang with him song at these parties. I agree with juries in 2014 but not in 2016 , their song from 2014 dont deserved to get many points. Poland can get many points from… Read more »
Not about diaspora or quality song… singing half naked makes Poland popular
I heard my grandparent’s chickens saying that they were going to vote for Poland saturday! 😮
They are Polish diaspora chickens.
I understand portugal climbing to second position since the prediction started this year, people started to engage with the song more and they like salvador, I don’t see it strong entry but it’s rather original and salvador express his feeling bringing it alive, Italy is worst on stage worst than the studio version the song is nothing special but they are aware that there is opportunity to reach wider audience via eurovision to have song like this to be favourite even if it doesn’t win, yes this song viewing figure reached above 100 millions and they already reached their target… Read more »
Having observed stock prices, I have to say that there are two types of material stock information leaks–true ones and fake once. There is too much at stake here for the organizers to risk real information leaking out. Of course, there are always people who are gullible enough to think that they are tipped on confidential information. There are other ways in which the bookies and professionals gauge things–such as youtube votes from other voting countries, the songs placing well on other countries’ charts, the quality of the entry, the previous ratings of the countries, etc. Additionally where a country… Read more »
There has definitely been some serious insider information. Here’s what we know so far. As soon as the semi-final ended, Armenia started trading really high moving up to the third spot behind Portugal and Italy, but 3 hours later, Belgium and Portugal were trading high whereas Armenia and Sweden started dropping very quickly as has Azerbaijan which has gone from 7th to 15th now. Here’s my take: 1. Portugal won the semi-final. I’m certain that Portugal got ridiculous amount of jury votes and possibly even won the televote bringing their total way ahead of the runner up. 2. Belgium finished… Read more »
I don’t normally respond to comments but I think you are out of your mind mate, the results are not meant to be disclosed to anyone because its braking the rules, there is no way anyone not bookies or others can get the results which will be published after the final, you should already know that, insider information that belgium is climbing because its won semi bla bla nonsense
Are you living in fantasy land ???
You seriously know nothing about how telecommunication companies work do you? The information passes through hundreds of people and all it takes is 1 person to profit by disclosing information to bookmakers. There is no way that all booking agencies started shortening Armenia’s odds right after the contest to 11 (essentially putting it ahead of Sweden and Bulgaria) and then dropping it to 40-50 3 hours later. Same goes for Sweden and Azerbaijan.
No inside information needs to be leaked.
If a bookmaker suddenly gets huge bets on Portugal and Belgium from a small group of people in Kiev, that means something is going on. The bookmaker will shorten the odds and other bookmakers will notice that, starting a chain reaction.
This is just one possible explanation though.
It makes sense. I don’t think press/audience reaction alone could shift the odds this much (except for maybe Lucie/UK since we don’t really have any voting figures for her yet). I’m sure other than an informant, there must be ways for them to figure out the televote…
@Ron, as much as I want to believe that there is fair game, I think you might have point, there. I am finding it really strange indeed that the gap is closing so much between Portugal and Italy. I just checked in Eurovisionworld and the difference between both are an average about 0.7. If this trend continues, Portugal will overcome Italy. The climb ups of Belgium and Moldavia are also strangely noticeable …
Your analysis is right.
Portugal won and Belgium came second.
Also youtuebe views. Both slayed in the televote.
You know, i think fans should be careful when they say “I know” and “i’m certian”. because you don’t know and you’re not certian of anything. The only one who knows is Jon Ola Sand and he’s not telling.
No one can predict ESC and no one is an expert.
Last year everybody knew Russia and Sergey would win. Pretty easily too. And in 2014 everybody was certian The Common Linnets wouldn’t make it beyond semi-final.
So don’t play experts here!
Esc 2017 a bad music year. Just a silly ape and boring songs. Hope it gets better next year.
Boring songs? Wait for semifinal two. Or maybe there will be other complaints…like dated (Estonia), gimmick (Romania Croatia), too traditional (Belarus Hungary).
Just enjoy!
After the first semi final
Portugal
Moldova
Azerbaijan
Armenia
And Sweden get my votes
Overall
The U.K., Portugal, Bulgaria, and Sweden and also Denmark should all fight for the top points and beat Italy
And Azerbaijan and Armenia have good songs.
Uk
Portugal
Denmark
Sweden
Bulgaria
And Azerbaijan and Armenia should get everyone’s votes please
Italy won’t win
Portugal U.K need all the votes they can get because these songs are amazing, listen to it on YouTube because finally people should vote for their favourite song and not country,
Both deserve top marks
Lovely to see Portugal and the UK do so well after all these years.
And I’m so glad that we’re back to a proper competition again, because even if Italy should win on Saturday, it won’t be another Rybak.
Performing in the 1st half = no landslide.
I actually am very surprised about Portugal’s drop in the odds since They were never so low even if the song and performance stuck to the national selection’s style…anyway I am starting appreciating it much more now than before But I don’t think it will win…I reckon the song is too divisive to assure the top scores
Incredible performance from Portugal. Simplicity, Genuity and Original. You will win, no doubt.
I personally think that is the best Top 10 in years! It’s also nice to see so many Western European countries trying. I think Denmark is overrated though, I see nothing special about it, in fact, I’m dreading seeing it tomorrow night after the shouty ballad women overload that we had on Tuesday. The performance is going to be so cliché in my opinion.
I think semifinal 2 is much weaker then semifinal 1. Estonia, Israel, Macedonia and Bulgaria are the only really strong songs there. Rest is kinda rubbish in my opinion. And big 5? France is good, Italy is o.k. The rest very forgettable.
Bulgaria, Romania, Netherlands are the strongest songs in semi 2 for me
the rest are really potential borderline qualifier, i can really see Lithuania sneaking in as a qualifier 🙂
Portugal was amazing. Made me tearyeyed. I will vote for Portugal on friday and i would be so glad if Portugal wins. I think Italy is just..nothing special. It was a shame that Finland got eliminated. One of the best songs this year in my opinion. Even worse that Montenegro didn´t qualify. That performance was EPIC!! And the song was excellent! I don´t care his vocals sucked, the final needed this performance! Im not suprised Sweden is drifting in the odds. Vocals and performance was a bit dissapointing. I think Robin will have to settle for place 5-10 on saturday.… Read more »
Friday!? 😮
I think Portugal ?? going to win Saturday, great to see UK doing well I hope it goes top 10 but I am worried we will have another Mollie. I would love to see uk win or second which is derseved but no one votes for us. Netherlands am I missing something I think it will flop.
What gives me hope of a top half finish for the UK is that Molly flopped because of her nervousness about the whole Eurovision experience and underwhelming staging (Joe and Jake suffered from poor staging), Lucie doesn’t have that. And she has had so far the best support for a UK entry since I started watching Eurovision in 2006. Will she be a shock winner? No but as long as her odds stay the same up until after the final running order is announced, she will get top 13 at worst.
I do not get what people hear in that song i nearly fall in sleep. Hope italy sin
Maybe a load of people saw the Portuguese song, loved it and put loads of money on it, maybe some were waiting to see it pass the semi-final stage, maybe information being passed on about it winning with a large margin were fabrications, maybe we shouldn’t use the odds as an almighty spirit light to tell us the result.
The question here is: after he sang on the semifinal, the odds drifted a little. It didn’t have the expect effect. Only a little before the results were posted, we saw massive amounts of money on it. The price came from 8 to 4 in a few minutes. It was surely some insider. I’m pretty sure that Portugal won the semifinal by a large margin. You don’t see odds moving like this for no reason.
The fact that Finland was kicked out is already a sign that Portugal won this SF by a large margin.
And more : in a semifinal with Sweden, and Armenia, how do you explain that Portugal was traded at 1.5 odds just before the market was closed? Someone knows it!
EVERYBODY IS OVERRATED!!
VERKA WINS!
Only words.
The winner 2017 is not in semifinal 1.
It will be Estonia or Hungary.
There are so many countries left, so many dark horses, and you talk about Blanche’s face and Salvador’s crazy fingers that are everywhere during his performance.
You hate Italy’s entry because it’s a “basic pop song” but Sweden is among your favorites? Not trying to be salty but this doesn’t make sense.
You are right Maria, Sweden’s song is the pure definition of basic pop song haha and it’s in English, so it’s more basic.
Davve is being an example of a certain group of Euro fans, who tend to be hypocritical in their judgement of the songs. Italy is certainly less-basic than Sweden, cmon man! Sweden is the pinnacle of basic, its s good song and all, but there is nothing special, especially in comparison to Italy. Maybe if Frank Gabbani was representing Sweden instead, it might be one of your favourites.
Frank Gabbenssen’s Westerners’ Karma is a pretty hilarious idea though.
> The song would be a pop song
> Definitely in English
> Extremely elaborate choreography and staging tricks
> There would still be a gorilla, but it would be an LED gorilla in a suit or a turtleneck
Hahaha this! ^^^
I just don’t know how so many take for granted that Portugal will win the juries’ votes when Il Volo was placed sixth by them two years ago. Salvador and Il Volo have a lot in common: emotional ballad, excellent performance and very poor staging. I don’t get it.
Very different concepts. Il Volo is a predictable kind of act. I don’t mean it’s bad, but when you see 3 or 4 Italian guys dressing like that, you already know what you are going to hear. Even if it has quality, people are already a little tired of this kind of music.
Since when do juries vote based on “predictability”? They were unquestionably the best vocalists back in 2015 and it was not enough for the juries (I assume the lack of a good staging might have played a part in that). And same can be said about Salvador.
I’m talking about the song, not about the technical abilities. I never thought il Volo was going to win, not even to be on top 3. Salvador is going to be there for sure.
Ok, but I am trying to be objective here. Personal feelings regarding the two songs do not matter. Whether you liked their song or not, it does not matter, and Grande Amore was praised by many and won the televoting. It’s just seem crazy to me how so many think Salvador can win the jury so easily when they paid dust to Il Volo.
I hope the jury see the quality in Portugals song, but you might have a point. They are maby give higher points to music that feels morden than good classic songs! But I really hope you are wrong!
I really likede Il volo, but I feel so much more when I listen på Portugals song!
Fingers crossed that Italy win and not Portugal, because I really don’t like Portugal’s song, too old fashioned for me. Can’t see UK winning, it will come top 10 with juries but it will do bad with televoters as they normally do. I thought Armenia’s odds would be better after last night, they were my winners of the first semi
I think that the battle for the first place will be between Portugal and Bulgaria. Italy is too overrated this year in my opinion. But you also have to keep in mind that there’s also the Russian diaspora and they all vote for another country because Russia don’t participate. I suppose they will vote for Bulgaria because Kristian lives in Russia and participated in the Russian version of the Voice kids.
(Or they don’t vote at all.)
It’s going to be a battle between Portugal and The Netherlands
Foggot Belgium , most overrated on bettings odds how she climb so high for final, after afful semi final performance on stage. She didn t deserved to go to final, like Austria.
I would easily replace Belgium for Finland,
Finland sounded much better and had better staging.
I know everyone says Blanche is shy etc, she knew what she was getting herself into, or else she wouldn’t take part in ESC. I liked her song when i first heard it on youtube…but live…i don’t wanna talk about it…
But now that she is going to the finals i have to say
“come on girl! if you want to win you need to show it”

Italy, Portugal, Bulgaria, Romania,UK overrated by fans and many eurovision sites, bloggs, bookmakers.Salvador didn won 2 times televote in his own country. Gabbani only in final, in his 3 presentation of song in San Remo. Romania kitch staging. Bulgaria also overrated ,not so good song
I don’t think these songs are overrated. In fact this is the first time in many years that I see songs with some quality on the first spots of the ranking. Portugal, Italy, UK, Bulgaria are all good songs. Romania is indeed a very cheap and annoying song, and I’m surprised that it’s not the favourite, because usually that’s what happens with this kind of song.
It is? Can you give some examples.
Semifinal 2 is the strongest and you will see how everything will change.
Estonia, Ireland, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria.
Next day we will see Verona very high.
Ireland hahahahaha
UK, a good song..? It’s a cliche’ song.
Blanche delivered a “strong” performance? It was terrible.
The thing – average ESC viewer is not minding how performance was delivered. Look at what happened with Finland.
in fact the contest is named “Eurovision SONG contest” for some reason. We all know that it’s important to have a good singer, a good stage and sometimes good marketing. This song was already “famous” before the contest, I think that’s the only reason why it qualified for the final. It is a good song, but technically it was a horrible performance by the singer. But then, take a look at Greece! She would not qualify to any cheap talent show in the world. But again, she qualified for other reasons, not for her talent!
Whether you like it or not, “City Lights” has been a fan-favorite since its release two months ago. I don’t know why so many were surprised when she qualified. Sure, she didn’t deliver yesterday night (though she did two days ago when she performed for the judges) and it was tragic that Finland didn’t get in, but regardless of all of this – people like Blanche’s song.
Let’s just hope Blanche sounds better on Saturday! 🙂
