He’s the smooth talking, smooth walking star who took Sweden to its fourth consecutive Top 5 finish at Eurovision 2017. And fresh from international success, Robin Bengtsson has turned his attention to domestic promotion for his top 3 hit “I Can’t Go On”, appearing at Swedish singalong summer show Allsång på Skansen.
Werking a white party ready look, the Swedish stud starts out strutting his stuff in a buttoned-up blazer, with a soft piano backing letting his voice shine. If this is fast food music, we want another order.
After a minute of action, Robin throws things into fifth gear, joined by a reliable squad of backing dancers and big band for a powerhouse performance of his Eurovision entry.
The dance moves are slick, the vocals are on fleek, and the star werks his jacket-heavy aesthetic for all it is worth.
He was joined on stage by Allsång på Skansen host and Melodifestivalen 2014 winner Sanna Nielsen for a quick post performance interview.
A blast from the Eurovision past was on stage too: Tomas Ledin, who represented Sweden at Eurovision 1980, took the stage to perform his new single “Midsummer’s Dream”. Appearances on Sweden’s summer TV shows can foreshadow the following year’s Melfest lineup so Ledin may be in the running to sing for Sweden at Eurovision 2018.
THE MULTI-MILLION STREAM MAN
Promotional appearances for “I Can’t Go On” appear to be paying off too, as the song has just passed 18 million streams on Swedish streaming platform Spotify.
Bengtsson’s other Melodifestivalen entry “Constellation Prize” just hit the 14 million mark, meaning between them the songs have been streamed over 30 million times.
Robin will spend the rest of the summer on tour, with 25 dates across Sweden through July and August. The majority will be as a part of the nationwide Diggiloo tour, which visits cities across Sweden every summer and includes famous Swedish artists.
This lineup includes a host of faces from Melodifestivalen past and present, including Jessica Andersson, Charlotte Perrelli, Wiktoria, David Lindgren and Andreas Johnson.
And here is the moment when fast food music turns into real music. So much better than the overly slick but stirile performance at the ESC.
