The Wiwi Jury — our in-house panel of music unprofessionals — has journeyed to the beautiful city of Minsk to check out the 10 acts competing in Eurofest 2018. With the national final on February 16, each act is readying themselves for their performance.

Anthony: So maybe Belarus shot themselves on the foot by not sending “Running to the Sun”. And they’ll be hoping it isn’t a case of “Deja Vu” with another shot at redemption. It’s a stark contrast to his 2016 entry with a smoother, laid-back approach whilst maintaining the up-tempo feel-good groove. As his name suggests, a GOOD entry from Kirill overall.

Chris: “Deja Vu” isn’t offensive on the ears, which is a good standard for a Belarus national final song. Unfortunately, it’s not much else: this is as generic, “album track” as you can get. It never explodes or really stands out. It’s fine to listen to – and I’d listen again – but this wouldn’t stand out at Eurovision.

Lukas: Kirill seems to be the too-cool-for-school type on stage. The song “Deja Vu” is alright, but that chorus in falsetto needs to go ASAP – it’s very annoying and doesn‘t work in this song. Overall this song is quite forgettable and needs some kind of climax if it wants to do well in this selection. With some improvements, this could be one of the better entries.

Robyn: Sometimes it’s easy to think of the Belarus national final as a bit of a mess, but there are some good songs lurking beneath the drama. “Deja Vu” is a slick piece of modern R&B and Kirill delivers it with smooth confidence. Even the rough audition performance showed that he has the basics nailed. The only potential problem — it’s possible the song might not be engaging enough. It’s perhaps a little too chilled out.

Sebastian: “Deja Vu” is slickly produced, with an artist that walks the walk and talks the talk. But there’s two issues with “Deja Vu” – we’ve head it all before, pun intended. On top of that, the song doesn’t really grow or develop. It’s cool, easy listening, Spotify friendly and commercial. But not right for the Eurovision stage.

Very radio friendly. Not sure if it’s the right song for Eurovision. It doesn’t have the live potential for me. It will get boring.

Surprisingly ok. Chris is kind of right. In Belarus, the litmus test is whether the artist can honestly pass for a professional musician. In that regard, Kirill done good.
The falsetto is tew much. This selection’s own poor man’s Bruno Mars.
It’s very self-explanatory. 5/10
This song gave me deja vu and reminded me of all the other not so great entries in Belarus this year. Don’t like the way he sings the chorus. Song has some potential though. Probably the only English dancey track in the selection.
