The second semi-final of Portugal’s Festival da Canção 2019 is just around the corner. This Saturday, RTP’s studios will welcome the second batch of eight songs that will fight for the honour of representing the Iberian nation in Tel Aviv. Only four acts will advance to the grand final at Portimão Arena where they will join semi-final one qualifiers Conan Osíris, Matay, Calema and Ana Cláudia.
We asked you to vote for the acts you would like to see advance to the final. With a total of 2,877 votes, the results are in and you were very clear on who should qualify this weekend.
The clear favourite this week is NBC with his powerful mid-tempo track “Igual a Ti”. 28% of wiwibloggs readers want to see the singer and rapper born in São Tomé and Príncipe in the grand final. Known for his distinct vocal tone and powerhouse vocals, Timóteo is ready to impress.
Ready to challenge the conventional in a way Festival da Canção never dared is Surma with her experimental track “Pugna”. 19% of our readers want to see her in the final. One thing is certain: Surma is daring to dream and we are ready to do it with her.
Lara Laquiz comes in third place. With 13% of the votes, the uptempo track is set to make an impression between ballads and experimental tracks. Will that impression be enough to impress juries and the public and sail through to the final? Our readers think so.
Marlon is out but João Couto is in. “O Jantar” stays the same and you voted the song in fourth place with 13%. The feel-good track was closely followed by Mariana Bragada and the song “Mar Doce” with 11%.

I agree with the poll, as well as I agreed last week with the first one. I’m very curious about Surma. I want to see how they stage “Pugna”. I don’t know if it is the type of song that works live.

NBC has the best song in the semi and Surma has the most unique one. Her song could bring Portugal another top 10 result or end-up last in the semi. Such an unpredictable song.
Igual a Ti is my overall second place. I also like Surma’s song from this bunch.
Yeah, if Conan won’t win, “Igual a ti” would be the 2nd best choice by far and a very deserved winner. This song is so amazing, I’m sad, that Portugal can’t send both of the two to Eurovision. 🙁

Anyway, the winner of the fdc 2019 is not among the SF2. It will be between Matay and Conan Osiris. So now i’m intrigued why RTP choose to put them in the same SF in the first place. Was it to test who already will be the most popular on the televote side ?
RTP sort the composers for the semifinals before we get to know the songs and who would be singing them.
Im pleasantly surprised at the Portuguese national final this year…..the entries are still quality but somehow more accessible than in previous years
For me ( and i realise im in the minority ) i love the song by Madrapaz. Its mellow, sweet, vintage but perfectly formed.
I SO hope it qualifies for the final…..fingers crossed!!
