Jeangu Macrooy, the Dutch representative of Eurovision 2020, will reveal his Eurovision entry on Wednesday the 4th of March. AVROTROS confirmed the news on Twitter, sending Eurofans into a flurry of heart and Dutch flag emojis.
The Netherlands’ Eurovision 2020 entry
The Dutch song will premiere during De Wereld Draait Door, a popular talkshow in The Netherlands. A day later, on March 5, Jeangu will sing his Eurovision song live for the first time during the same talkshow. The same strategy was used last year when the Duncan Laurence revealed his winning Eurovision song “Arcade”.
The name of Jeangu’s song has not been announced yet. Cornald Maas, who is part of the selection committee for the Eurovision Song Contest, tweeted that the song can be best described as “outspoken and distinctive”.
Aftellen kan beginnen… Uitgesproken en onderscheidend, dat is de song van @JeanguMacrooy sowieso https://t.co/67Q1h8JkwS

Who is Jeangu Macrooy?
Jeangu Macrooy is a Surinamese singer-songwriter. He was born in the former Dutch colony of Suriname in South America. He moved to the Netherlands in 2014 to study songwriting at the ArtEZ Popacademy.
Since then, he’s built up a career in the Netherlands. Jeangu has released two studio albums, one live album, an EP and many singles. He regularly tours in the Netherlands, as well as Belgium, Germany and France.
Jeangu is a regular guest performer on De Wereld Draait Door. He performs his own music on the show, as well as tributes to artists such as Stevie Wonder, George Michael and Bob Dylan.
Jeangu has spoken about the importance of being an openly gay role model for young Surinamese people — a country where gay culture is often considered a taboo subject. Jeangu explained, “I’ve got a stage to trigger change. I hope I can be meaningful for all those young people in Suriname who discover their sexuality and discover that they’re different.”
Jeangu isn’t the first Dutch Eurovision act with Surinamese origins. Singers Humphrey Campbell (Eurovision 1992) and Ruth Jacott (Eurovision 1993) were both born in Suriname before moving to the Netherlands.
Are you excited about Jeangu’s song reveal? Do you have high expectations? Let us know in the comment section down below!
He put a tiny teaser on twitter. Starting to get nervous now.. 😀
Don’t forget Sweden 2016… they came 5th as the Host country.
I’m sorry you already mentioned that..
I hope for … Amsterdam 2021!
Hopefully, it’s the SONG, not the artist that fits perfectly in #openup theme.
I think you might be right. Or at least not definitely wrong as many ppl defensively claim in the comments. Even though the majority of white Europeans might not consider themselves racist (or aren’t), there are hardly very successful singers of colour in Eurovision in recent years. With the juries yes, but with the public meh (Sweden 2019, Austria 2018, Ukraine 2012, Norway 2011, okay there’s Latvia 2015, but even in that case juries favored her more than televoters). Not claiming everyone is racist, but food for thought, yes.
“Europeans really don’t like black people …” – Google Efrén Eugene Benita
Last place in the semifinal…
Are you making a joke??
They’re an automatic qualifer, but okay.
This is one of the entries I’n most excited for!
And don’t forget Azerbaijan 2012 😉
Don’t forget Austria in 2015 😉
Mamma mia, isn’t he gorgeous?
I remember the times the hosting country would do great with their entry, not the case anymore. Not expecting much.
Even in Holland there isn’t any hype surrounding this… I suppose it’s because we don’t care if we win again. I’m sure he’ll have a good song in his own genre, I’m not so sure if the televoters are going to like it because his sound isn’t exactly something that would appeal to most Europeans. I’m guessing top-5 with the juries though.
No high expectations, probably one of the bottom 5 come may
I live in the Netherlands now so I follow the news here too. There is little hype because they kept everything secret (except for the artist) on purpose. They did it last year with Duncan too; nothing was known until the very last week. That tactic worked, so why not do it again? There is only so much to speculate about, so no real hype could be built. And it might be better if you see how people are disappointed after so much hype 😉 it might be better to out of nowhere surprise everyone with a great song rather… Read more »
The less hype, the better. People are not talking about Jeangu because the Dutch delegation is not revealing much. They don’t tease, don’t reveal the title, the snippets etc. – and IMO it’s a good thing because many countries tease too much and release disappointing entries in the end (France, lol).
And when it comes to racism, I guess it’s not an easy thing to judge. There are both racist and very tolerant people all over Europe. But I wouldn’t suspect most Eurovision fans of being particularly racist… It’s the song that counts the most.
Possible To Let France In Peace Now and to forget them a little? Even when it’s off topic, France France everywhere, not tired?
Last year the cover art, title of Arcade and demo version leaked way before the official presentation at DWDD.
I think the comment is referring to subconscious racism. The kind that wont let you pick up the phone and vote. And I agree. Very strong african representation in Esc this year with Benny, Destiny, Eden and Jeangu (surinam but of African roots). It will be interesting to see how they do.
depends on their songs i guess?
I don’t think Europeans are racist, in fact I would argue is quite the opposite
People are simply less interested with the host entry songs, look what happened recently with Ukraine, Portugal and Israel songs as the host country. And NL regardless the song and who sings it is likely to follow the same footsteps.
Why would they? Ukraine, Portugal and Israel didn’t have appeal to voters. So, if he has a good song he will manage a top 10 position.
Expecting a lot! Great singer at least, hope the song is up to par
Your comments are very ignorant to say the least. Infact I’ve seen strong nationalism from your previous posts it’s quite ironic that you’re talking about racism.
this is off-topic but I really want elif to represent Germany. doppelleben, one of her best songs, is hauntingly beautiful and I never get tired of its ethnic elements and vocals. also, she nearly always sings in German. I recommend y’all check her out.
lets see
The begging of march is gonna be bussy xD
as always
