Nearly thirty Eurovision 2022 acts performed at Eurovision in Concert in Amsterdam on Saturday. Among them were Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra, who obtained special permission to leave the war-torn country to perform on the promo tour. They sang in front of a large QR code which fans could use to donate to Ukraine.
Finland’s The Rasmus, Iceland’s Systurs, and Slovenia’s LPS made their pre-party debuts, offering many of us a first chance to catch them live. And so did Dutch artist S10, who had the honour of closing the show with her emotional number “De Diepte”.
Unfortunately Sweden’s Cornelia Jakobs had to withdraw due to a positive Covid result. But Sweden was represented in another way — with Eurovision 2012 winner Loreen. Appearing as a special guest, she reprised her first two Melodifestivalen entries: “My Heart Is Refusing Me” and “Euphoria”.
Eurovision in Concert 2022: Playlist
Several acts complained about technical issues. Albania’s Ronela Hajati dropped her mic (out of frustration) at the end of her performance, while France’s Alvan & Ahez had perhaps the most obvious technical flaws with their mics glitching rather loudly. But no matter! Everyone pressed ahead and the audience didn’t mind at all…
Many great performances, but only one can be your favourite. Watch the performance videos in our playlist above and let us know who stole the night for you. In keeping with recent tradition, Warner Music Group Austria has blocked the performance of Pia Maria and LUM!X. That “Halo” clearly has the words COPYRIGHT CLAIM engraved on its edges. Unfortunately we can’t share that performance with you (yet again).
Just asking for curiosity, why singers representing Italy didnt attend any of the Pre-Eurovision organisations in London, Amsterdam and Israel?
He’s a very VERY good singer, with all the charisma of a wet lettuce. Juries will dig him, I fear he’ll sink with the televote.
Es un fraude. No deja votar ?
I usually like Swedish music, but even if Emma sang well it won’t help that the song itself lacks. Albania is one of those songs that fans like, but I don’t know if she’s able to deliver this in a fresh way – unless she time travels back to 2009! Poland sounded nice, but needs something spectacular to make it stand out at ESC. Iceland was really good, might be a dark horse in semifinal 1. Spain’s Chanel performed well, but in the end it leans quite heavy on the performance. Romania sonded good, but as a song it’s cheesy.… Read more »
She didn’t sing live
There were indeed obvious technical issues, loads of people kept fumbling their in-ears throughout their performance, microphones were turned up too loud, and indeed France was the most obvious one with everyone grasping their ear when the opening yell was sung. But overall, I must say I was quite impressed with everyone pulling through and obviously enjoying themselves. The presenters even said that Ronela was very dissatisfied with her performance, but I must say I didn’t notice that at all; she was on point and really charismatic. Austria’s Pia Maria quite clearly didn’t sing live, and I’m doubting that Subwoolfer… Read more »
Wtf xD
In my opinion, Czech Republic, Montenegro and particularly Austria are all showing signs of improvement compared to their previous performances. I was particularly impressed by Poland, UK, Albania and Armenia, however Finland was the biggest disappointment by far. It seems like Jezebel was just not made to be sung live.
Really, George?
Where is Austria improving exactly?
Am I the only one who thinks Vladana really improved? She still needs to work on the chorus but it already sounded much better!
Eurovision is about slaying, not improving. It’s not kindergarten xD
There can only be one winner: sam ryder
I cannot listen his voice more than 1 minute. It sounds like a metal scratches glass. Very painful.
Not as painful as reading your comments!
Imagine an athlete winning a marathon but having his victory cancelled because his armpits didn’t smell nice. ABSURD, isn’t it? So why are we discussing vocals or choreography in a SONG contest?
That’s not a fair comparison. vocals are a huge part of a song. Imagine hearing a song with an out of tune guitar. It would mess up your perception of the song. So do bad vocals
If it was a “Eurovision LIVE PERFORMANCE contest” then yes. But the songs are already here. They exist and they can be judged. Live performance is a re-creation of an existing song, and yes, many things can go against the plan on a certain, exact, particular occasion. But this does not affect the SONG. The song exists and it’s taking part in the contest. So you go and listen and decide which song is the best, and then you vote for it.
These are the criteria’s that the juries are given: Jury member selection criteria
All jury members are music professionals. They are being asked to judge:
vocal capacity
the performance on stage
the composition and originality of the song
the overall impression by the act
So you are wrong the vocal capacity and stage performance is one of the premium qualities the juries and televoters judge.
Vocal capacity: Poland
Performance: Spain
Composition of song: UK
Overall impression: Sweden
I agree om some parts But the Swedish song is way better than UK. It is not original but well composed. Actually the thing I don’t like so much about UK is the song. But in Eurovision there are few original songs that also are well composed. This year the best are according to me Italy, Sweden, Finland and Netherlands. Greece andPortugal are not bad. Vocal capacity- there are several, Italy, the UK, Poland, Greece, Portugal, Australia and as I heard Azerbaijan. Sweden and Netherlands are not bad either. So this will be a tough call. Performances I guess Spain… Read more »
I am really surprised that people consider national Juries ‘music professionals’. In Spain, for instance, last year’s jury members were: two talent show participants, a more or less unknown singer, a composer and a dj.
3 out of 5 were not really ‘music professionals’.
It’s the EuroVISION Song Contest, not the Eurolisten Song Contest
Possibly one of the most stupid takes I’ve ever read. Do you think Salvador Sobral would have won if his vocal was bad? Do you think Italy would have won last year if they sang while standing still as statues?
This is the worst take I’ve ever seen. I can kinda see what you mean about choreography, maybe… but VOCALS?! Vocals are the key part of a song. If you want it to be purely song-based then why send any singers at all? Just have it be an orchestral contest.
Silly, silly comment.
You better don’t dream so much, not everyone does like this oh oh oh song..
you can vote for your own country??
does it mean: wiwi was invaded by Poles?
Love Brooke’s face in the picture lol
And Monika’s XD
No Final for Albania
Albania may win the semi.
Macca Baya, Macca Baya, the stage will be on FAYA !!!!!
Latvia among 4 worst performances?!
Maybe the vegan message doesn’t cut through, as the viewers don’t like their habits being challenged.
Really liked Sam this time, he should do something along with every “Man” in Space Man, like a gradual raise of the arm. The crowd will follow, they won’t need instructions like Norway.
I think you though he should have kept the nothing but nothing part to make it more powerful
I liked that bit too
I think that Croatia’s Mia is really doing such a good job at those PrePartys. She’s really serving. I don’t know if any of you noticed but prior Israel calling she was sitting at 36th position at betting odds and now she’s up at 26th place. That’s jump of 10 places!
Agreed, I think her and her song stand out this year. A bit like Zoë in 2016.
They hosted JESC in 2019, which was the best Junior so far!
Malta for me
Emma will surprise many i dare to say
such a super solid live singer, performer
Idk why this is downvoted, her song is generic sure, but you can’t deny that she’s a great singer and performer.
Monikas song is so outdated. Even 50 years ago such a song was oldfashioned.
I´m yawning….
She is literally singing a 1920s (interwar period) stylized song mixed with 1970s disco and nowadays’ electronic elements as she did claim in one of the interviews. Thus, you’re partially correct. And that’s the reason why you can skip “Sentimentai” and focus on quality fast food new (not old-fashioned!) bop you will most likely forget and get bored in about a month or two after the competition is over. This gem, however, will be remembered for years to come! ?
Austria hiding the flaws on Pia Maria ahead of the big competition. I like the song don’t get me wrong but taking down videos where the vocals are not good under the excuse of copyright when the delegation and representation of the artist WILLINGLY chose to perform live on a venue where many hundreds can record, it’s bufoonery. I have nothing against the artist but it’s obvious these actions should not be encouraged or excused. I can safely say that you are accountable for the artist’s failure because instead of pouring resources into improving the performance you make your efforts… Read more »
The song is a little depressing but yes he does sing it very well.
He is screaming, not sing well sorry!
Lol
Poland won’t win, that’s a fact.
How would we kow who the best performance was if the event was not streamed? Most people voting here didn’t watch the show. That’s why this poll result will be biased.
They are uploaded in Youtube. Check out wiwibloggs youtube page
Thanks. I tried and I appreciate the effort. The videos are not good so we can’t really tell about which the best performance was. Hopefully the event will be streamed soon.
Unpopular opinion: Michael dances better than Chanel and his performance is also better, Chanel’s performance is no longer interesting, she always dances the same! On the other hand, Michael changes his dance every time and his performances are interesting and surprising .. he will surprise us all .. mark my words!
Truth…
You know that most people who watch Eurovision don’t know anything about the songs and the performances until the final day right? The surprise effect will stay the same for Chanel.
Both their choreos and vocals are great, there is no need to compare the two.
Your opinion but i am absolutely sure that you will be glued to your tv screen on May watching Chanel’s performance.
Hahaha funny post. Chanel always dances the same and the rest always sing the same song.
Poland win 2022 river river
No objections! Better than Sweden’s usual overhyped song!
Does anybody knows why ukraine is not in the semi final odds anymore???
They are part of big 6 now.
is this a joke or they really belong to the big 6 now ?
It’s a joke. They are a certain qualifier which means that a betting odd for them is so low that they removed them. If you look to bet on who will win SF1, they are still there.
Ukraine re-appeared on the betting list for qualification and stands first with 93% chance of qualification.
why wouldnt they?
I would love to see a Polish victory this year:
Nothing beats “We are Slavic”
Completely agree with all of these points! If there were ever a time they deserved to win, it would be now.
Colin, have you gone further back than 1996 yet? I only ask because, for me, Poland’s first two songs are their best. River might be their third best.
Not yet, I’m leaving that after mid-May, to focus on my 2022 reviews. But I will tell you how I feel about 1995 and 1994.
Argument number 2 and 3? Wtf. Size doesn’t matter. Politics should also don’t!
The song is outdated, there are many other better songs.
Agree. Outdated in not a good way. Sounds like an entry from early 2010s.
Ochman & Sam will get a lot of applauses from screaming but not so many votes from the juries.
Channel dance is out of this planet, but unfortunately vocally she sounds like an angry cat.
Lol I do love an unpopular opinion
Minus 48 and counting… You’re on your own I’m afraid!
Yet nobody gave a valid argument why I am wrong.
because they weren’t “Screaming.”
It is not possible to give a valid argument against your comment. Would be telling you are wrong and saying she sang perfectly a valid argument for you?.
What is really clear is that you have not heard many angry cats in your life.
“Here’s why all the favourites suck” is a brave BRAVE comment to make on the internet. -76 points, I tip my hat to you Nomo Nomo.
Yeah but even if TVP couldn’t, they would rather take a loan than lose a chance to make themself look good
They hosted two JESCs in the past. Id even risk saying that their JESC in 2019 was much better than ESC in Tel Aviv when it comes to production value
From what I can hear on youtube ALL artists sounded weak.
Poland, Netherlands, Spain and United kingdom were the stand outs for me.
Ochman, Stefan, Monika Liu, Subwoolfer, Sam Ryder, Ronela Hajati, ect. continue being brilliant as always. Brooke is fun. Pia and Vladana improved on the vocals. I feel like Dominika still has to. Out of new festival outings, I am loving Die diepte live! I also feel like I dig Jezebel less each time I hear it. Sorry.
Brooke is SO fun!! I’d love her to qualify
Agree on Jezebel unfortunately. From January up until UMK I was really fond of it but it started losing ground in my top rapidly. Now it stands inside my top 20 but far worse from where it was a month ago. I think that they will qualify for the final and get a Hooverphonic kind of result.
I think so too. I predict it will be a qualifier, and in all honesty, I don’t think that it’s a bad song. However, I do have it at 31st place right now (and I kinda feel bad about it, as I *love* In the Shadows, and I am hyped to have The Rasmus at Eurovision). I’ll see more in my Wiwi Jury review, but I can say that the lyrics are the main issue. The instrumental is cool, albeit not outstanding either. I still hope that the entry will grow on more a bit more (because of the Rasmus).
I am still trying to fully decide my top. I have the goal to do so until the Wiwi jury commences so that I will be able to give my personal ranking in my top alongside my personal review. But yeah I can’t see Jezebel climbing any higher than it is right now although I never skip it when it starts playing. Another problem apart from the lyrics that I have spotted is that the lack of rhyme in the chorus makes the singing seem detached from the instrumental during the beginning of the chorus. I don’t know if it’s… Read more »
I don’t skip it either, but I only skip maybe 4-5 songs. Two are in particular hard to go through for me. I have no idea what my final top will look like either. I still shake-up my top 4, as I love all of them equally. Even my 5th place has started growing on me on the same level. Also, my late teens – mid 20s are a mess right now. There are many ”oh, it’s quite nice” low-key songs this year. When you mention it, the rhyming is not its strongest suit either.
My bottom 5 are songs that I can’t listen to at all. 4 of these songs are low in most tops I’ve seen and there’s one song that I rank low while having an unpopular opinion (let’s keep it a secret for now 🙂 ). But yes the rest of my top is still fluid.
I’ve finished my preliminary list today, and have written most of my Wiwi Jury reviews, but tonight, I’ll just remove all the ratings from my places 16-40, and rank them all again. For most of them, I’m sure the ratings will be the same or similar, but I want to give it another go. My places 1-15 are on my playlist, and will be ranked once again after that (seriously, ANY of my top 4 can be my winner as of now). The reviews will surely be tweaked a bit before posted, but at least I have the big chunk… Read more »
I am looking forward to reading your reviews as well! I’ve written my reviews for the first 14 songs of my top and I am trying to find the time to finish all of them before the Wiwi jury starts. We are really getting closer to May and I am getting very excited!
This is just ridiculous to predict succes base on another big name artist/band in ESC! It’s completely irrelevant. It’s all about the song and performance!
I dont get Albania complaining. She gave the best performance from all preparties. Iconic performance! It is starting to give me winner vibes!
Although I wanted to go for UK or Netherlands, Spain easily got the biggest reaction of the night, my pick had to be Chanel.
Not sure why people are voting Poland, I saw nothing new in that performance I didn’t already see in London or Tel Aviv, and I’m not seeing the charisma from Ochman to match these higher placed favourites.
I agree with his lack of charisma but his voice is very good. Chanel dances great and her bum is very firm.
-4 points and yet no one can dispute my theory that Ochman just hasn’t got the charisma to match the other top entrants. He’s a fantastic singer, I’m not disputing that. He’s just missing that… *something extra* all winners have. Mahmood/Blanco, Cornelia, Kalush, Sam, Amanda, S10 have it. Not sure about Ochman.
Ochman..London, Israel now this . he gets better on every outing. Light years ahead of the pack and sailing on towards a top five finish in Turin. To win, he’s in the hands of the Polish TV staging crew… Which may yet underwhelm..! Alas.
I am really worried about the performance. There are going to be 4 dancers on the stage :/
er…not sure that’s a good idea..could be very distracting.
I’m so tired of people sleeping on Croatia. I admit, the song may not be the banger. But her live performances are a class above others.
I’m happy others are starting to wake up since she jumped 7 spots after Israel at betting places.
I would say Sam Ryder, on this occasion from the videos I have seen. Sublime vocals.
See, I understand that sound/technical issues are unavoidable but how come EVERY single one of these parties or whatever you call them, has had major sound issues? Like what’s going on lol…
They don’t really have time to properly do sound check and balance for 20+ or 30 different acts. Israel calling were still doing sound checks for some acts while the crowd was already in the arena. I sense that those events are just too big for the time frames that is given to them. That’s why it’s always kind of sloppy. There’s just not enough time to rehearse and to proper fine tuning.
Well actually I dont understand. Yes with 27 acts the time to rehearse is limited, but this is not a amateur party any longer. People had to buy tickets for over 50 euro, so I think they could expect at least some professionals at work there. Mics not working, glitching of mics, sound of the mics too soft or to loud, it is just not good enough.
It was an absolute joke, the level of amateurism was just unbelievable.
Latvia’s mic failed (again) and that’s just the tip of the iceberg, one song was extremely loud then another song was on low volume, there were some many mistakes and technical issues. And they didn’t even apologize for it to the audience!
The presentation was also a joke, very boring and not prepared well enough.
The artists did the best they could though, they deserve a big applause.
loreen
Why San Marino , Azerbaijan and Cyprus didn’t attend any concert? Especially i’d like to hear Ela’s live version
Either they don’t have enough money ( they need to pay for everything) or they are still working on their performance.
San Marino: they have problems with covid cases in their team so they cancelled all pre-parties.
SPAIN ,NETHERLAND,U.K.,Chanel ready to win this year, spectacular, proof with a powerful strong coreography, that can sing also, jurys go to apreciate her work,:)
Brooke <3
I had a great night! The roof went down when godess Chanel from Spain performed! Cornelia’s absence really sucked though, since she was the main reason I bought the ticket ? well, in the end, better now have covid now than during the live shows
i don’t understand why austria’s performance was blocked. can someone explain?
