Eurovision national finals are a tough game. Only one act can win each country’s selection, often leaving many great songs behind. But some of these fallen favourites are given a new chance at victory each year in the OGAE Second Chance Contest.

With the acts for this year’s contest now chosen, OGAE fan clubs around Europe (and the rest of the world) are submitting their votes to decide the top favourite of the national final acts who didn’t win the ticket to Eurovision.

But before the official result is revealed, we want to hear from you. Check out the competing entries for the 2024 contest and then let us know who you think should win.

Scroll down to vote in the poll

OGAE Second Chance Contest 2024

This year’s edition of the “visual event” is hosted by OGAE Sweden, after Marcus & Martinus won the 2023 vote with “Air”.

OGAE clubs whose broadcaster selected their Eurovision entry using a national final were eligible to nominate one non-winning song as their entry for the Second Chance Contest. OGAE Rest of the World, comprised of fans from country’s who don’t have individual OGAE clubs, selected their entry from the Moldovan and Sammarinese selections.

Competing acts

The starting order was randomly drawn.

  1. 🇸🇪 Sweden: Jacqline – “Effortless”
  2. 🇷🇸 Serbia: Konstrakta – “Novo, bolje”
  3. 🇪🇸 Spain: Angy Fernandez – “Sé quien soy”
  4. 🇳🇴 Norway: KEiiNO – “Damdiggida”
  5. 🇸🇲 San Marino (OGAE Rest of the World): Loredana – “Pazza”
  6. 🇭🇷 Croatia: MARCELA – “Gasoline”
  7. 🇩🇪 Germany: Ryk – “Oh Boy”
  8. 🇺🇦 Ukraine: Ziferblat – “Place I Call Home”
  9. 🇫🇮 Finland: Sara Siipola – “Paskana”
  10. 🇨🇿 Czechia: MYDY – “Red Flag Parade”
  11. 🇮🇹 Italy: Annalisa – “Sinceramente”
  12. 🇲🇹 Malta: ERBA’ – “Sirena”
  13. 🇱🇹 Lithuania: Shower – “Impossible”
  14. 🇵🇹 Portugal: João Borsh – “…Pelas costuras”
  15. 🇩🇰 Denmark: Basim – “Johnny”
  16. 🇪🇪 Estonia: OLLIE – “My Friend”

Poll: Who should win the OGAE Second Chance Contest 2024?

You can vote for as many of the contestants as you want. But remember that you can only vote once – so choose wisely!

Who did you vote for? Are you surprised by any of the clubs’ choices? Which songs would you have submitted? Let us know in the comments.

Interesting poll. The best actual song is currently in last place.
When it comes to OGAE “taste”, we know Annalisa or Sara are winning, even though it will be killing them all that they just can’t hand the title to Sweden as usual.

And Czechia would have been a guilty pleasure of the year. I can only imagine how explosive that performance would turned out to be.

It would also have been hilarious to hear them sing “not saying she’s a witch…” given how many witch songs there were this year 😉

weird that Israel isn’t in this second chance contest LOL

since Eden Golan has sucked so much dick, wouldn’t be surprised if she is also the 2025 artist, and 2026 artist, and 2027 artist

things can never go wrong in Israel sadly

Israel did not do a national final to pick the song, so it doesn’t count.

This is how many times each country (that is participating in this year’s OGAE contest) have gotten:

Sweden – 19 wins
Italy – 5 wins
Spain – 4 wins
Norway – 4 wins
Denmark – 3 wins
Germany – 3 wins
Finland – 1 win

Others: Zero wins

Same as with Poland, no national selection of any kind, so they’re not participating this year. ROW won in 2011 with Iceland’s entry, as they didn’t have their own OGAE club yet at the time.

Outsider choice that would shake entire OGAE out of their minds, would be interesting to see the reaction if something out of the ordinary would be chosen.

Off-topic, but since the Olympics are happening right now, I thought I would look up The metal record tolls of all 52 Eurovision competing countries. Of course, I should probably do it after the Olympics are over because a lot of them will probably add medals to their totals. Stay tuned!

Dear old KEiiNO would have definitely done much, much better than Noregs 1st in MGP that eventually and sort of deservingly ended up last in the event called Eurovision 2024.

You wouldn’t guess it from the YT chat during MGP. Everybody was thrilled with the choice and I felt I was the only one not seeing it. Bubble was gone at the ESC.

I voted for Annalisa and Ollie. I believe Annalisa would have been a serious contender for the victory at ESC, had she won Sanremo. Ollie is also great and I believe he’ll soon represent Estonia at ESC.
Konstrakta is an amazing artist and I always love her artistic vision, yet I prefer In Corpore Samo.
Keiino this year were not to my taste, even if the song was unbelievably catchy. It would have been a televoting magnet at ESC though, if they had won MGP.

You mean you did not watch Late Late Show start to finish back in August? The “International Jury” headed by person from Wiwibloggs, thought the Louis Walsh boyband, was the best choice for Ireland. Luckily we dodged a bullet thanks to National Jury and public, getting best placing since 2000.

Seems the person running OGAE Ireland is more interested in the Tour de France than the OGAE Second Chance contest. I looked at their X account and found nothing about the contest. They had tweets about ESC news releases and ESC related birthdays and for some reason tweets about each stage of the Tour de France.

I agree that strategy – wise they were the cleverest choice yet I really wanted Norway to try something new. I hope this year’s result won’t discourage them from being creative. Gåte grew off me during the season but still I liked them.

agree, its lyrics aren’t entirely nonsensical like sinceramente and mahmood has stage presence. no idea why eurofans decided to collectively stan annalisa, she’s a great vocalist but sinceramente is her worst output in a while and it has no redeeming qualities as a song lmao

Yes, if you’d ignore the fact that Neopolitans were involved in block voting and both juries subsequently heavily voted for Angelina Mango because everybody knew that she would come second in the televoting.

I really hope that the next Sanremo director would not repeat this mistake by allowing songs in local languages in the future because it provokes some kind of weird regional nationalism over music.

Estonia, Finland, Lithuania or Italy.
I fully expect for Sweden or Norway to win yet again, but I don’t think they should.
I wish if OGAE Croatia went with Vinko (jury winner), Alen (2nd on the televote) or Let 3. All placed higher that Marcela and have better songs.
