London correspondent Deban Aderemi falls in love with Pastora Soler all over again.

Critiquing Pastora Soler’s latest effort was nothing but pure joy. The entire album is in Spanish, a language I do not understand. But that wasn’t a barrier. I thoroughly enjoyed the album. That pleasure increased tenfold when I consulted the lyrics sheet. The album’s title literally translates as ‘ A Woman Like Me’. As the album unfolds you realise that woman is layered and complex, delicate but strong.

The album is essentially a collection of well sung ballads and a couple of mid-tempo songs. Standout tracks include “Vamos”, “Yo No Te Pido La Luna”, “Ahora O Nunca”, and  “Quedate Conmigo”.

This is Soler’s 11th album. Unlike many pop stars who wane in their latter releases, Pastora waxes stronger. Her performance of “Quedate Conmigo” in Baku dazzled the jury and she secured a Top 10 finish—the highest placement for Spain in nearly a decade. The bonus track on this album includes an English language re-working of the said track. It’s probably the weakest song on her album, but it remains one of her biggest hits.

True Eurovision fans, and lovers of good music should invest in a copy of this album. The 13 tracks create a beautiful and harmonious mood. It’s not too often someone delivers near-perfect musicality. Pastora Soler achieves it effortlessly.
