Eight years ago, he represented Lithuania at Eurovision 2009 with the piano ballad “Love”. More importantly, he also won the inaugural edition of Eurovision’s Next Male Top Model. Since then, he’s twice tried to return to the song contest stage, but to no avail.

But now, Sasha Song — the artist formerly known as Sasha Son — may really be onto something. His Eurovizijos atranka 2017 entry “Never Felt Like This Before” is a modern EDM track, coloured with soulful vocals.

Sounding quite similar to DJ Snake and Justin Bieber’s summer 2016 megahit “Let Me Love You”, it’s probably one of the most radio-friendly and current sounding songs to come out of any 2017 national selection thus far.

And the “Never Felt Like This Before” music video is also suitably impressive.

Directed by Mantas Sadauskas and Audrius Dzimidavicius, it brilliantly channels the atmosphere of the track. We see young people pursuing their dreams and getting inspired to make them come true. Will Sasha be like them and have his dreams become a reality?

On 7 January, Sasha placed second in Heat 1 of Lithuania’s marathon selection process. With 18 points, he was just four points off the heat winner Edgaras Lubys. But it was enough to see him through to the next stage of the competition, bringing him one step closer to the 11 March final.

What do you think about the “Never Felt Like This Before” music video? And what of the song in general? Will it take Sasha back to the Eurovision stage?

Sasha Song’s Eurovision history

Sasha Song previously represented Lithuania at Eurovision 2009 in Moscow with “Love”. He ranked within the top ten in semi-final two, but eventually finished a lowly 23rd in the final. Only Spain and Finland scored worse. Perhaps his poor result was down to the running order, as he opened the show.

Sasha attempted a comeback in 2010, when he joined forces with Nora on the duet “Say Yes to Life”. They placed fifth in the Eurovizijos atranka final.

He tried again in 2011, this time with two songs — “The Slogan of Our Nation” and the Donny Montell duet “Best Friends”. Both songs reached the final, but neither made the superfinal.

We’ll never understand how Lithuania could say “no” to the combined forces of a former and future Eurovision’s Next Top Male Model.

I hope there’s better for Lithuania. The only song I’d consider for Eurovision from heat 1 is Septyni Dievai from The Golden Monkeys.

The song is just trying to be something it is not. In the end it just sounds awkward and unoriginal.

He wants to come back to ESC, but I wonder why :
1. Does he feel that he can do better for his country, and himself?
2. Is he out of money and wants to start again?
3. Did he won much money after the first participation and he wants more now? (like MIHAI with ”Tornero” in 2006 his song was everywere in Greece, and he was very proud about money he won and purple car he bought)

It’s kind of a nice and fun song, one of the best of the first Semi-Final.
