At the end of its Eurovision 2017 submission period, broadcaster RTV Slovenija received 90 applications in total, before whittling them down to just 16 participants. And, on February 17 and 18, a professional jury and the televoting public narrowed the aspiring Eurovision acts down further during two semi-finals. Following the carnage (and slayage), we now know the eight acts that will compete in the final of Slovenia’s national selection show Evrovizijska Melodija (EMA) 2017

The eight finalists will compete in the final this Friday. So while we’re counting down the days, we’d like to know what you think. You can listen to all eight finalists below, then vote in our poll. As usual, you can vote for as many acts as you like, but you can only vote ONCE — so make those votes count! Click the box next to each act you’re keen to see at Eurovision before pressing submit.

KiNG FOO — “Wild Ride”

Nika Zorjan — “Fse”

Sell Out — “Ni panike”

Omar Naber — “On My Way”

Raiven — “Zažarim”

BQL — “Heart of Gold”

Tim Kores — “Open Fire”

Nuška Drašcek — “Flower in the Snow”

Who should win the final of Slovenia’s EMA 2017?

Who are you rooting for at EMA this year? Can Slovenia bounce back from ManuElla’s semi-final exit? Let us know in the comments section below.

This is definitely a battle between BQL and Nuška if you ask me. Those two songs managed to capture my attention from the first listening. Omar and Nika are also good. Tim’s song is dynamic, so okay. I don’t really get the attention over Raiven’s song, especially if it’s gonna be translated. King Foo have the weakest entry in the contest, because the singer is affecting so much while singing that she sounds electrocuted.

Raiven’s song has a great story, but for you is the problem that you do not understand slovene. Why is she like ”discoball”? Because her song is about ligt!

here is (probably bad) translation od hers song before she turned into ”light”:
each beam is brighter when you turn off the lights… and in chorus she is singing ZAŽARIM wich means i glow, or i shine (there is no better word for that in english)

P.S. she will sing in english if she win EMA. 😉

Honestly, Heart of Gold is so generic throughout most of the song. But then, so is Apollo, and people seem to be loving that too.
That said, I think EMA17 is decent. Raiven let me down live and something more needs to happen with production, because she’s going for that ‘Love Injected’ vibe but doesn’t have Aminata’s production value behind it. Nika and Omar are both good too – although I need something uptempo to come from somewhere soon.

if they will choose BQL, it will be their best entry ever. Please be wise!

Raiven all the way! So different, unique, powerful. There were a lot of tehnical difficulties (she explained them in the interview) so I am hoping that she will win! She will stand out. BQL is just another pop teenage group (but it has a lot of voters, unfortunatelly) …

Simply different. Simply flawless. Raiven.

I loved Raiven at first but she disappointed me because vocally she wasn’t very strong and through the whole song I was waiting for that climax but there was no climax tbh. I feel like the song lost the power after second chorus. BQL were amazing, they really surprised me, they can still improve of course, but I really hope they will win. The songs is catchy and that’s only a plus. It would definitely stand out of all the balads this year. It is already a hit here in Slovenia so…. 🙂 I also really love Nuška. It’s a… Read more »

I WAS ALL IN FOR ZAZARIM BUT AFTER LIVE PERFORMANCE IT WAS A LET DOWN. IT’S ALL BQL FOR ME NOW AND IT’S GONNA BE MY FAVORITE ENTRY ONCE IT WINS. SLOVENIA 4 THE VICTORY! 12 POINTS FROM BELGIUM

This is an amazing final!! I love them all!
Slovenia might do very well this year. 🙂
My guilty pleasures are Tim Kores and Omar Naber – haha. I love Tim’s sexy old-school driving rock song; and Omar has an amazing musical theatre voice. But realistically I don’t see them winning against BQL, Nina or Raiven. BQL has a unique song and an outstanding concept; Nina is solid, and Raiven is spectacular vocally with an unusual song. Hmmm. This is going to be a difficult choice. Well done for Slovenia! 🙂

Nuška or Nika! My vote goes to Nuška.
Heart of Gold is so overrated!
I think this is one of the best NF so far. Thank you Slovenia 🙂

@AngieP woow I’m not the only one that notice that about Raiven, I even think she was even better live last year. She didn’t improved even a bit in a year…

Nika with “Fse” is good but I don’t think slovenia will vote for it, because she sings in Slovenian dialect.

BQL are the newbies, they need to learn a lot. They are nervous and emotions do they own thing. If they learn to control this I think their singing would be a lot better 😉

EMA 2017 should win BQL.

The studio version of “Zažarim” was amazing, but the live performance wasn’t so strong.
I wasn’t a fan of “Flower in the Snow” but the performance was great!
I have to say “Heart of gold” is my favourite. Love it.
I also like “Fse”.
So for the win, I’m between “Fse” and “Heart of gold”. I would love to see one of these songs in Eurovision.

After listening to the studio version of ZAZAREM, you would think that this was one of the strongest SLO songs, yet her live performance needs to be improve to stay in the top three and possibly win. The opening was strong but after that she faltered a bit. Disappointing.

Fse or Heart of Gold for me. The only songs I want to listen to again.

“Heart Of Gold”, “Zazarim” or “Fse”, everything else would be a disaster.

Nika, Nuska, Raiven or BQL would be the best for Slovenia. 2 finalist would be BQL and Raiven.

1. Raiven 2. BQL 3. Nika

For me Raiven is the best. Just singing in Slovenian will make her stand out in her semi final. I also like BQL but the live performance was a bit off for me.

As slovene I want BQL to represent us. Raiven… she was amazing last year but she’s not a safe choice to be honest… Everybody is talking about how amazing BQL’s song is (You read BQL as Be cool) and that it would made best Slovenian entry in the history. And I’m a fan of Raiven but this time I’m with BQL

I like Fse, On my way and heart of gold. Zazarim is also OK but I’m bored of female ballads.

Nika is the best choice!! 😀

Raiven is also overrated, she sing really bad at the start, when she cames to high notes, then she is good. Nuš?ka is also overrated by manys because of het voice but song is really bad, same with Omar, good voice bad song. Nika sounds really intresting as well as BQL.

I will not lose the words with Sell out, Tim Kores and King foo!

@nn
Joe and Jake were a pop-rock band with a fairly bland song which they performed well BQL have an uptempo electro pop number that is catching and has more potential than “You’re not alone” …..
P. S
talking of originality lol…. No one invented the sliced bread at Eurovision…better go and listen to Bjork’s album if u want that.

Nuška Draš?ek is outstanding and really powerful. It gives me goosebumps!

Slovenia, all you need is BQL and Heart of Gold. I mean that is amazing !
Raiven or the other girl singing in Slovenian will not be popular choice, but the guys from BQL are very impressing maybe they’re simple but voters will love it, it’s modern, it’s just forces you to listen to it… Slovenia do a good choice BQL <3

I agree with comment that BQL is overrated.
What is different in their song , maybe only becuase 2 young man sing pop song instead of woman . We have similar boy duo last year UK 2016 and they get more vote from juries than televote (and many thinks it will happened that they score better with teleovte than juries, becuase they will colect so many points from televote form young teen girls…). Only different BQL have litle better song than UK Joe and Jake, but not that good .

@PP

It’s not overrated, it’s just different to what we have as entries so far. It’s catchy, accessible and current.
Plus, the slogan this year is “Celebrate Diversity” not “Celebrate The Power Ballad”.

BQL is overrated on this bloggs like Mirela from Spain , Krista from Sweden…

I agree with you, Zazarim remind on Love injected by Aminata and Raiven stage performance remind me on Jenny Silver stage performance of song Place to stay from Melodifestivalen 2010.

For me TOP 3
1.Nika
2.Omer
3.Nuska

But I think fight for win wili be bettwen BQL and Raiven or Nika if we got 2 superfinallist like last year.
For me BQL are so overrated by fans, they don t sound for me good live, especialy singer at piano in some moments in song.

A positive surprise from Slovenia. Heart of Gold and Zažarim are my personal favourites. To be honest I prefer Heart of Gold: great voices and overall an enjoyable song, could stand out in the sea of female ballads in the first semifinal (Finland, Albania, Georgia, Poland, probably Czech Republic and Armenia as well, maybe Belgium, Iceland, Azerbaijan or Australia too). Zažarim kind of reminds me of Love Injected, not in a bad way.. It’s different and I really like Raiven’s voice. Afterall there won’t be many non-English language songs this year so it would be a smart choice to sing… Read more »

Raiven is a sexy disco ball if I’ve ever seen one! Fse is really fun she well. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a pink-haired Slovenian in Kyiv this year! BQL could make it to ESC through being or original, but they’re not my favourite.
