She brought Greece back to the Eurovision final this year following the country’s first-ever crash-exit in 2016.
And last week “This Is Love” singer Demy watched her star rise higher and she snagged five nominations in Greece’s coveted MAD VMAs.
Demy, who sang on an elevated platform while male dancers portrayed swans in a puddle, earned her nominations in the following categories: Best Dance Video, Best Modern Female, Video of the Year, Superfans of the Year and Best Ballad Video (for “Tha Meineis Feugontas”).
The VMAs will take place in Athens near the end of June and will see famous Greek artists fighting to win different 16 categories.
You’ll recognise a many of these names from Eurovision, including Helena Paparizou, who is up for four awards, including Song of the Year for “Fiesta”, and Sakis Rivas.
Even “Tha Meineis Feugontas” — Demy’s entry for wiwivision back in 2016 — has made the list.

So what do you think? Who should win each award? Let us know in the comments section below.
Most likely. Just how about discussing keyword breadth?
Helena Paparizou is also nominated for “Superfans of the Year” Award
I loved Greece’s song and performance this year. I really did. It was easily in my top five.
The Greek entry wasn’t as bad as people said it was. It did deserve to get into the final, but it wasn’t really “top 10” caliber.
The Greek media reported that they originally wanted Demy to be sitting on a swing for the beginning of the song (with various silly images being projected around her), but the show’s producers couldn’t accommodate the necessary prop.
For me, This is Love was a trainwreck on fire with oil spill.
Greece can do so much better than that. I miss entries like Alcohol is Free, Opa, etc…
So, this year’s Greek “dream team” was a massive bust. If I were the Greek broadcaster, I would be furious right about now.
Personally, I think MAD TV represents the decline of Greek music. It represents Greeks emulating other countries’ pop music, rather than Greeks producing something original and unique to them.
Thus, given that this hasn’t been working all that well for Greece, I’d stop looking at MAD TV and Panic Records to select the Greek representative.
I assume you are another Greek musician that has never made a hit in Greece.
Just for the record, ERT should be more than happy this year :
They made it to the finals
They had the highest ratings of the last decade
Most important : they didn’t pay 1€ since all costs were covered by sponsors
Panic records should also be very happy since Demy had a number 1 radio hit with “This is love” (after 3 singles that didn’t even make it in top 50) and 5 nominations in mad awards.
No, I’m not a professional musician.
And no, ERT should NOT be happy. They hired the “dream team.” You don’t hire a “dream team” to place 19th.
Also, I believe “Rise Up” hit #4 on the Greek chart.
No “rise up” didn’t even enter top 50 in the airplay chart and ERT didn’t “hire” the dream team. You hire someone when you pay him. Since everything was covered by sponsors ERT has no say.
Helena should win the song of the year award! “Fiesta” is my summer hit. It’s always on repeat here. Love to Helena <3
