X Factor UK: Jon Lilygreen misses out on Judges’ Houses, Slavko and Berget survive Six Chair Challenge9
The X Factor UK Six Chair Challenge reached its conclusion tonight. And after impressing Overs mentor Nicole Scherzinger to earn their seats last night, Slavko Kalezic and Berget Lewis both remained seated at the end and will advance to the Judges’ Houses.
However, they weren’t the only Eurovision-related Overs acts performing this weekend. Having represented Cyprus at Eurovision 2010, we finally saw Welsh singer Jon Lilygreen perform for the first time this series after his audition and Bootcamp performances went unnoticed.
As he stepped onto the stage at Wembley Arena with his guitar, Overs mentor Nicole Scherzinger asked, “Why do you feel that you deserve one of those seats over there?”
“Ah, that’s difficult to say”, replied Jon. He said that all the currently seated acts — included Slavko and Berget — “all deserve them chairs, but my big dream is to play in a room like this, full of people that want to come and listen to my own music. That’s my dream.”
While Berget and Slavko chose to sing an existing hit single, Jon opted to perform an original song named “Baby You Know”. And judge Sharon Osbourne praised his performance. His performance was a hit with the arena and had the audience singing along.
“Well, thank you for entertaining us, because everybody got into it. You were really brave doing your own song. And it worked for you.”
It was then up to mentor Nicole to make that all-important decision and listening to the audience’s cries of “Swap!”, she gave Jon a seat — at the expense of the Filipino diva Loverine Fermino.
Sadly, his seat was not a permanent one. Last to perform on Sunday night’s show was the gritty soul singer Tracy Leanne Jefford. While her performance was patchy — Simon Cowell described it as “a total and utter mess” — her potential was recognised with a seat. And sadly this meant Jon Lilygreen had to give up his.
Slavko and Berget now face the Judges Houses round next week. They’ll be jetting off to South Africa with Nicole Scherzinger and the four other hopefuls. There, under the hot African sun, they’ll be fighting for one of only three places in the live finals.
