One of this year’s hot favourites, “Grande Amore” by the Italian popera trio Il Volo, is proving to be even hotter on YouTube, with the video having recently clocked up over 20 million views. The music video, which sees the trio re-enacting romantic scenes from famous movies, has only been online since mid March, but it already has more views than what Conchita’s “Rise Like a Phoenix” music video got in a year.

Italy, Il Volo, 1So what’s behind this massive achievement? As well as being Eurovision favourites, the trio recently expanded their Italian fan base when they won the Sanremo Song Festival back in February. Il Volo also have a substantial following in both North and South America. All that adds up to an ever growing and eager fan community. Their fans might not all be able to vote in the ESC, but they just can’t get enough of that grande amore.

Il Volo are well above the next most popular Eurovision 2015 video on YouTube. The video for Polina Gagarina’s song “A Million Voices” is popular, but it only has 2.6 million views.

However, Il Volo still have some way to go before they beat the 45 million views that Lena has for her “Satellite” music video, but the way things are going, it won’t take them five years to do that.

“Grande Amore”, which clocks in at 3:45, is due to be released in a new version under three minutes as Il Volo’s official Eurovision entry. Until then, the full length song and its fun video is the go-to version for fans.

Forget Lena’s 45M views.
The one to beat is Cleo&Donatan’s “My Slowianie” with their 54M views.

overrated, songs like this are tons in Italy and none make it a big deal, its just that europe dont listen much or at all to italian music,im sure you will find that this song is just an average to say the least, anyway i suppose if you single them out, chances would be they arent that good as they are together,i’ve heard better in terms of song&singer. i just hope this Eurovision will be fair and square, which i doubt big time,:D

They’re my favourites to win this year. Their voices are magnificent and on point, the song is beautifully composed and it doesn’t hurt that they’re all very hot to boot.
Moreover, if they win, not only will it mean a victory for Italy, it will also be a victory for national languages, which I think is very important

Song too pretentious. I hate the operatic touch. Will fail, I’m sure.

Hey Robyn, Voltaj’s ‘De la capat’ video has more than 3.17 million views on youtube, so more than Gagarina 😉

Italien kommer inte att vinna. Synd på en ok låt. Den är för smörig. Det har funkar inte med opera i ESC. Det har provats förr, men misslyckas. Men 2-4 plats blir det med lite tur

You may not realize that ll Volo was popular in the USA and Latin America and other countries before they performed at the Sanremo Festival. These young men have beautiful voices. Some may not like this type of music, but at least they can carry a tune, unlike so many singers I have heard. I suspect most of these posts are from young people who truly don’t appreciate trained voices such as ll Volo. Even if they don’t win, they have a hugh fan base all over the world. How many of the other singers have performed with famous singers.… Read more »

If they be in TOP 5 with televoters and in TOP 2 with juries they have big chance to win. In 2011 they was on 2 place thank to juries, with 189 points (11 with televote 99 points, and first with juries 251 points , Azerbaijan on second place had 182, same thing happen with Sweden in 2012 with juries) I think that they wili be maybe 4 or 5 place with televote i think result with televote wili be Sweden if they had same presentation like in Melodifestivalen or somethin better than that at eurovision stage without that Sweden… Read more »

In 2013 I don t like Italy song till final, in final they are amazing and they deserved that year TOP 3 or TOP 5, my favorite that year Norway, Denmark, Ukraine so much time before semifinal, final and plus Italy after final performance . Same feeling for me 2014, The Netherlands , like Italy 2013. My favorite before contest was Austria, Ukraine, San Marino . Who wili be suprise for me in 2015 from semifinal and final performance in 2013 was Italy, in 2014 The Netherlands. My favorite in 2015 before semifinal and final are Norway, Italy, Spain but… Read more »

I love the song but it seems wrong we are hearing the 3:45 version. Surely the 3 min version exists. It should be released. The album will be out in less than 2 weeks.

I’m with Allen. You can’t go by previous operatic performances at Eurovision because they’ve all been trainwrecks and/or novelty acts. You can safely assume that Il Volo is going to perform wonderfully, and it seems unlikely that Italy will spoil it with a gimmicky presentation.

I don’t think it’s going to win … oh heck, I don’t know WHAT it’s going to do TBH … but whatever happens will have nothing to do with Romania 2013, France 2011, or Sweden 2009.

Just wanna point out that they’re not opera singers, a little research would’ve showed you that their style of music is lyrical pop, or operated pop. Opera is a little bit more complicated and it’s what Luciano Pavarotti did, along with Domingo and Carreras. I’d be very thankful if you corrected it in the article 🙂

This song is this years “overrated pompous entry”.. it will be amongst the favourites but in the final it will place 20th or similar..

just like france in 2011 or israle in 2010… just two examples of similar pretentious songs.

So what if opera didn’t do well in previous ESC comptetitions? France had terrible live perfomance in 2011 although the song wasn’t bad. Sweden in 2009 did bad simply because competition that year was big and she performed better in semi final. Rock didn’t do well before Lordi won. Things can change. There is no music style that cannot do well (or bad) – it’s up to the performance and the way how singer delivers that song… Italy will probably win. If not, I just cannot see how this song can fail to reach at least top 5. This is a… Read more »

This song is so boring!! I hate it…sorry Italy! Probably will do a bit better than the last year entry because of their fans worldwide and opera lovers…but I don’t like it!
And yeah they video did a lot of views but they have been and still are in a worldwide tour since Sanremo, so the numbers of the video don’t speak anything about their Eurovision chances.

Calm down everyone, Popera has always failed at Eurovision, even when it’s been favourited. I have a feeling that the history book on the shelf will repeat itself in 2015.

Just suddenly realized how hot the two guys (left and center) are!! Wow!!! Typically Italian! 😛 Regarding the song, It is a bit too cliche for me, its nice, but Ive seen it all before, probably a top 10 placing but I dont think we are going to Rome next year, Italy has entered better songs (2012, 2013) that didnt do well

ESCtoday linked a 3 minute version today (not the same as their April Fools version) but I couldn’t tell whether it was actually official.

This song is definitely in my top 20. However, I don’t feel like the composition is instantly memorable… it took me some time to get familiar with it and grow to appreciate it. Either way, you can pretty much expect top 3 for this song.

At the beginning, it is really great. The song is great as well as their voices….but then towards the end they sound awful and the it has no climax. Just the same song throughout. Italy are around 15 – 20 on my top 40 but I hope they do well like every other year.

I wonder, when are they going to shorten the song to 3 minutes in order meet the rules of Eurovision?
