Chris: Well – it’s “Heroes”. What really were Sweden going to change from Melodifestivalen? Other than the required changes to Måns’ snowman friend (who now has some dungarees), this was pretty much the exact same performance we all loved at Melfest. Having heard him perform at Melfest, you’ll likely notice the areas where the backing track has been removed. For all newcomers to the song, though, that won’t be an issue. Måns sounded good vocally even though he was holding back. So long as Sweden can work through some of the production issues they had with the projector, this is still a potential winner.
Sweden’s first rehearsal at Eurovision 2015
William: Prior to today’s rehearsal I was worried that the massive stage would swallow Måns’ intimate performance. It didn’t. The Swedes have cleverly staged this to preserve the highlights of Melodifestivalen. There are some minor tweaks — for instance, the red background is now an elipse rather than a rectangle — but the bulk of this will seem familiar (and fabulous) for diehard Melfest fans. The big pan-out-zoom-out Eurovision shots actually work really well. Måns stares straight into those disappearing cameras and the effect is stirring. I can’t fault his vocals — the man is just so good.
Padraig: There’s really not much to say. If you’ve seen any of his Melfest performances you’ve basically seen this too. There’s a few superficial changes, the stick man has acquired dungarees and a balloon, the stage has more lights (obviously), but otherwise it’s the same. Måns gave a competent performance, although he was holding back on the vocals and missed some of the visual cues. Still one of the best.

There is no doubt that Sweden will win this year. They kept the screens, they’re going to win.
Had never heard lovers of the sun before so had to check it out. What the heck – if Heroes is a plagiarism om that song then all songs are a plagiarism of any song. Thats just redicilus!!!! Who came up with such false accussations? Sorry for the song writers of Heroes – i hope they get payback by winning on saturday.
This is a winner. Other than Italy, Slovenia or Norway no one will come near it. And to those people who say Sweden shouldn’t win because they won in 2012, its a competition, anyone can win, look at Ire 3 in a row, Isr, Lux, Sp all 2 in a row. Go Sverige. Stockholm 2016, Sweden are in it to win it, just like with Sanna last year
There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that either Sweden or Italy will win. The staging may be old news for us, but the audience who only tune in for the Grand Final will be blown away.
lol 🙂 Mums-Mums
Well Måns seem to be a hot prey in Vienna at least..
Måns is almost perfect, I’d say. Great song, amazing voice, the best smile. If Israel doesn’t win, then Sweden should. Long live the leather pants and hairy chests!
Great singer and performance. Impressive choreography. The obvious winner.
To Milla & Eugene UK:.
The positive majority surprises for staging & performing and I am speaking as a press member in Vienna, are so far:
RUSSIA, GREECE, SWEDEN
OMG so much jealousy towards Måns. Just like for any favourite every year before ESC. In 2012 people said Loreen would not win.. her stage performance was “weird”, her song was ” too modern”… bla bla bla.. Emmelie had a “weak voice” , no stage presence…etc etc… bla bla bla…
Måns will most likely win. And it is because Heroes IS one of the best songs in the competition.. and with such a unique and good stage act he will definitely gain plenty of 12 points….
If Zelmerlöw gets drawn on the 6th spot in the Final, he will win. He is born 13/6 and his semifinal spot is 13.
Last year Conchita had 6th spot in semifinal and 11th in final, she is born 6/11….
“Sweden uses the same stageshow as in Melodifestivalen, thats lame”.. Ofc we do, thats what the people voted for? -.-
Isn’t that how it should be?
This was only the very first rehearsal. I can only imagine how good the end result will be :)) And it’s not the same trousers.. LOL
Leo.. So now it’s really come to the point where the one who has the best staging win or what? 😀
@jasmin Here are concrete examples of what I didn’t like about Eurovision 2013 edition: 1. The stage – It was smaller than usual, looked cold and unwelcoming and didn’t have enough lighting…in my opinion. 2. The technical issues – there were several rather embarrassing technical issues which is understandable, it’s a live show, but nonetheless, with my efforts those could have been avoided. 3. I actually wasn’t crazy about the hosts or the jokes. They came across as rather dull. This may all be just a matter of opinion, but I do feel like Sweden puts more efforts into hosting… Read more »
I have seen todays whole 3 minutes on the the big sreen in the press room of the rehearsal from Mr. Måns Zelmerlöw – SWEDEN . So ti seems to me that Mans was a bit struggling with his live-perfomance, especially in the refrains. Not one of his better performances, that´s for sure. High notes were almost impossible to deliver for Mr. Black Leather Fashion – but when he is going to change them, I mean ” the black leather throussers” ???? Since 2-3 months he is wearing them during all performances at ESC concerts? Or does he have 5… Read more »
This, that, whatever you said. Or you gonna say. His song is modern, his staging is one of a kind this year on ESC, he has the voice, girls like him (and they are MAJOR voting power), juries will love his voice, so…congrats Sweden on your well deserved top 3 placement and I hope that they will win.
Sweden 2013/Malmo was an OK staged event. And as someone else said, they “didn’t participate in the dickmeasuring contest that is hosting ESC”. As Azerbaijan did, or even Denmark last year. 🙂
Lets wait and see.
@jasmine @Leon
I think Sweden did a great job on 2013. The tone of the whole show was perfect, the postcards were classy and the host was amazing (that’s why she was chosen by the BBC to co host this year’s Eurovision Greatest Hits with Graham Norton). I can’t tell about the organization cause I wasn’t there. The only thing that looked a little cheap were the LEDs walls, but it’s very difficult to compete with Coppenhagen and Viena two years later.
To Mys Larin –
The figure reminds me of Muhammad, oddly enough, HAHA
I just gotta clarify what I said earlier because I absolutely LOVE Sweden at the contest personally – Eric Saade, Loreen, Robin and Sanna were all in my Top 3 for each respective year and Loreen is one of my favourite winners. 2013 was one of my favourite contests also and Petra Mede made it absolutely spectacular so if Sweden won I have no doubt that we’d be in for an amazing show (preferably with Petra hosting again!) but I just don’t like this song at all… simple as that. After four straight years in my Top 3, this one… Read more »
Sorry, I am underwhelmed with both Australia and especially Sweden. last year’s Sweden’s song was great, but this?? this is a YAWN. And to think this is the best they can do after a million contests between 2 million songs in their fancy meolodifestivalen?????? that’s IT??
To James, omg the jealousy… how can you possibly hate Sweden, we have the best everything this year, therefor we should win, end of.
Thank to huge points from juries Sweden or Australia wili win at Eurovision.
@ Leon Would you mind giving me some concrete examples of how ESC 2013 was cheap and poorly organized? Was it because we didn’t evict people from their homes to build a giant arena? I personally think we did a good job. They got half of ABBA working with Avicii and Petra was a champ for trying to perfect her french so that we wouldn’t have to see 3 people struggling with their jokes and chemistry on stage. They wanted to make a good TV-production, and didn’t fail doing so. I’m sorry if we didn’t participate in the dickmeasuring contest… Read more »
Måns shined. this song is top3 for sure
Surely he must be sweating in those leather pants? Hes been in them since March! :O ..Ah good old reliable Sweden. I still like the song but it has slipped in my rankings. 100% qualifier for sure and will probably in the semi final….but I have a very strong feeling he is not going to win. Top 3..maybe:P Best of luck Sweden, not that you need it.
He is still doing the same movements! It’s not only the staging but the exact movements he did… As someone has said this has no surprise. I can’t stand with this! Sweden out!
As always, Sweden does the same staging than in their selection. What is special about that? NOTHING. The cool thing is being surprised in every performance, but everyone knew what Sweden would do. I absolutely hate that country and I wish to the new gods and the old ones that he doesn’t pass to the final. (yes, I love Got hahaha)
I’m going to say te obvious thing here.
If more countries actually started to try to win this contest Sweden will stop being the odds favorite and overall favorite every year.
It’s not Swedens fault that they send good songs because, which you can see on their places the latest 4 years.
For me the song itself is meh but the staging is really captivating.
Maltish, we’re now getting Maltish fatigue
they can still sue for that stick figure… just because it does not have a pointy hat it doesn’t mean it wasn’t stolen… just sayin… it’s obvious…
Well ok he is handsome he has a great staging but its easier i think that ebu just “give” the esc to sweden for some years. I mean come on we are living another ireland thing! And when all the viewers are going to be fed up with all these “victories” then ebu will might take off juries. Just like 90s.
Wow, haha, his new srick fighure looks like a stupid jew yahoodi!!
haha
It looked and sounded great. Great performer!
@Maltish Lyrics are of paramount importance to me and it’s hard to be jealous of a song which doesn’t make sense… unlike for example you own country’s song – among others – which has such beautiful lyrics.
I don’t know what on earth a “dancing with the demons in our minds” is and quite frankly I don’t want to know…
For me Sweden and Denmark are certain options for top 3. They have best organized performances.
The song and the singer have it all… except originality and unexpectedness, a.k.a. the shock factor! The melody line is solid and has that ‘sing-together’ value to it, but the lyrics are a bit ‘too-inspirational’ borderline overbearing and hence there’s insincerity aftertaste to it, so the message is actually wasted in its all-too-important’ness. Yesssss, all of the above could mean a win for the Eurovision – if that is the case, then I’ll be happy for the guy and for Sweden, because it is a good effort really. But… we’ve heard songs like that before!!! Estonia still holds my heart,… Read more »
i’d rather see a new country hosting the eurovision
@Fatima: This isn’t Swedish Fatigue
It’s clear jelly and hate towards the favourite. It’s been three years since Sweden won, get over it. Ounce they start winning yearly, then we have a problem.
100% Agree with @ Otna
The year that sweden hosted the contest, it looked very cheap :S
dont love the stick figure 🙁
I think it wont win but it is a top 5 material 😀
I hope it wins, everything is just right: singer, song, stage act. He is the only one that gives such a professional performance, he’s confident and its all so commercial it sounds like a hit.
It will be 1st or 2nd place, but not behind Italy.
I don’t understand how it’s a “masterpiece” when the lyrics of that chorus make zero sense……..
But then again Running Scared is broken English and it won so anything is possible at Eurovision!
I think it’s gonna be the shocker when this song finishes as a runner up. Honestly, I love Sweden, I love the song but I just don’t see this winning. This won’t do justice to Loreen. Also, after the 2013 poorly organized, cheap edition of the contest, I’d rather not seen Sweden do the hosting.
I am a senior citizen and am amazed at the comments from this young generation. This is supposed to be a singing competition but everyone is judging the ‘stick’ figures and background pyrotechnics. I am still trying to figure out what exactly is the music this generation prefers and what Eurovision is about. I must confess that my favorite is Sweden’s major rival. I wish the rehearsals’ would be closed and everyone have the one chance at the final performance.
Maltish we don’t hate Sweden, we’re merely suffering from “Swede Fatigue”
Well, we all know this a very competent entry and staging, there’s even no need to look at rehearsal footage. The only question is will he win?
sorry Sweden..bookies, polls, ogae will all be contradicted this flashy fake song good for eurovision ofcourse its fun as eurovision is well known with somng like this but its noting special, sorry, it wont win, don’t tell the god i’ve made mess lol lol god can see everything, second he says he said go and dry your eyes son, lol lol lol so unreal
