William: “Time to Shine” is all about moving from self-doubt to emancipation, so it’s appropriate that Mélanie René’s first rehearsal moved from darkness to light. She begins the song wearing a dark cape only to rip it off Valentina-Monetta-style, revealing what must be one of the most glamorous frocks we’ve seen thus far. Rather than bringing needless backing dancers, Mélanie has opted for female drumming divas. They really add to the grrrrrl power vibe. Her vocals were as powerful as ever, and she might just push through to the final.
Switzerland’s first rehearsal at Eurovision 2015
Padraig: Definitely the Boggie or Molly Sterling moment of the day. Written off in many quarters as a non-qualifier Mélanie proved that it is definitely her time to shine. Through the use of inspired staging, she’s suddenly become one of the contenders. The dress change fits in with the theme of the song, and avoids cliché. The forest screens are dark and foreboding, but not depressing. And once again, as has been the case with everyone, vocals were on point. Well done Mélanie!

The backing singers/drummers are too loud….
awesome staging. fingers crossed it will qualify but this is Switzerland so it needs more luck
@ Nitzan
You’ re absolutely right. A lot of would-be Conchitas this year…
The backing vocals enhanced her performance well with their costumes, drums and body movements. Will wait for more soon.
I agree that it sounded awful but it is just a 30 second clip we get to see. I’ll take the word of the guys who were there and said she sounded amazing and I’ll wait to see more at the second rehearsals hopefully!
Vocally horrible, and wiwi calls it a contender? lol, yeah last place in the final IF it qualifies.
All those shouting female singers-warriors… the drama… the lighting… the pathos… the “I’ll stand still mid-stage with dramatic lighting and meaningful expressions”… It’s just too much for me this year, really.
@lacrymea I think it’s fair to say that we are being shown a REALLY BAD video clip and that 30 seconds is not a full indication of her performance.
Seriously? This is all over the place. I had to stop it half way through. How anyone states with this rehersal suddenly she becomes a potential qualifier is beyond my compreehension.
I personally love this song. I hope she qualifies.
Good Luck to Melanie Rene! <3 🙂
I really like her beautiful song & its one of my favorites in the 2nd SF! <3 😀
I hope that Switzerland will manage to qualify to the big final like it happened last year with the swiss babe Sebalter <3 🙂
One of the most visually impressive of the whole contest so far. And Melanie is the kind of performer who can actually lift even an average song like the one she’s got.
P.S. Too many forests this year?
Backing vocals are horrible. My ears are bleeding ;(
All I can hear in this short clip is a lot of yelling, and off-key to boot… Those backing vocalists should really improve before the semifinal.
Yes Otna and that’s not even the first forest we’ve had in this semi
I’m not a fan of the clip – I feel like I can only hear the backing singers in that chorus and I can barely hear Melanie herself. But no doubt those audio issues will be sorted out before the final and I am a fan of this song so I hope she makes it. The backdrop is perhaps the best yet!
SEMI 1 – 14th song:
Elhaida Dani rocks a cape.
SEMI 2 – 14th song:
Melanie Rene rocks a cape.
<3
Those backing vocalists definitely add something. Whether that something is good or bad, we’ll have to see.
