It’s confirmed! Switzerland, Eurovision’s original gangsta and the land of previous winners Lys Assia and Celine Dion, will be back to compete in the 2016 contest in Stockholm!
The marathon that leads to Switzerlandâs grand final will kick off in September. In a nation built around consensus, you gotta start early, yâall! As announced the national selection process will take place in three stages, resulting in six finalists who will sing in the live national final on the 13th February 2016. The process will involve candidates from each of its broadcasters: German-language SRF, Romansh-language RTR, French-language RTS and Italian-language RTI.
As in previous years, SRF will use an online selection in which artists can enter their songs onto their website from September 28 through to October 26 of this year. Ten lucky songs will then progress to a live audition alongside 9 artists from the other Swiss broadcasters. The 19 artists from the live audition will then be condensed to 6 (3 from SRF/RTR, 2 from RTS and 1 from RTI), which will perform for you guys in the live national final. They will perform in the hopes of becoming Eurovision’s Next Top Superstar.
Do you think 2016 will be Switzerland’s time to shine? Who do you think should represent the nation next year? Let us know in the comments below!

If Switzerland really wanted to qualify and score better, they should send ‘Kadebostany’ to Stockholm next year
“No one really cares about it, most people donât even know who will be the representant, and the media only informs very superficially.”
Sadly, Marco, this applies to so many countries, e.g. Spain, France, UK, Italy, …
Generally speaking, although Switzerland have always sent rather decent songs, they have had no luck for years. Unfortunately, they entries are just… ok, but not to remember. I have to admit that I cannot remind myself of any single note of this year’s song! I just completely forgot it. I suppose I am not the only one. This songs just lacks something. However I am not able to point out what it is. Last year’s entry was great, stood out. It proved they can attract viewers’ attention.
I’m afraid this format of choosing an entry is far to complicated and only leaves middle-of-the-road songs, just as it happened this year. MĂ©lanie sang well, was nicely staged, but just did not stand out in any way. As for Arbresha last year, her song sounded really good as a track/as video on youtube, but she delivered a very lame live version. People would have fallen asleep! I think what mostly has to change is people’s and especially the media’s interest in Eurovision in Switzerland. No one really cares about it, most people don’t even know who will be the… Read more »
Arbresha’s song was far too cool for Eurovision, guys.
Yay, the Swiss final will be on my birthday đ
Arbresha was ROBBED last year. “Same Stars” would have been Switzerland’s best entry since 1993, in my opinion.
I’m hoping that something that gets sent to the SRF selection will be good enough to win.
Wsa really disappointing result 4 dear Switzerland & poor Melanie in Vienna’s Vision..
Just 4 gathered points only & last place on the SF!
If it was me i had Switzerland as finalist qualifier..<3
Switzerland with such really good performance & song deserved to qualify more than other countries that did..
Really pity because Switzerland is a country with not great dynamics & is considered inactive so its entries end up being underrated as they don't get seen as seriously as they should been..
I hope Arbresha submits another song. “Same Stars” was the best!
Switzerland’s song on this Vision was one of my favorites songs in the bunch… <3
Melanie's song in its remastered version especially rocked! <3
It was my 4th most favorite song! <3
There is the possibility of Switzerland sending A GreAtY song 4 next Vision & possibly manage to qualify to the big final at least <3 đ
If only our #1 biggest star visionary Celine Dion said YES to take part again in our Vision representing Switzerland! <3 đ
I expected our broadcasters to seriously consider changing the national selection process. We’ve had this kind of process for five years going now, 3 times we stayed in the semis, and in 2011 we came last. Sebalter was the only “success” coming 13th.
I don’t think that next year will be any different, since the submissions are often unprofessional and (or because) nobody’s interested in Eurovision here in Switzerland.
Glad they’re still be with us. I thought they’d withdraw after the unacceptable result this year. I don’t think this format works. They always have gems in the national selections but they’re usually wittled away in the first rounds leaving 6 mediocre songs in the final and the one that actually wins is just too average to vote for in ESC. I feel like that’s what happened to Melanie RenĂ©.
