In recent weeks one song has dominated talk of Krajowe Eliminacje, Poland’s national final: “Cool Me Down”. It seems that Margaret has already won a lot of love from fans around Europe, but will our Wiwi Jury think the same? Check out our reviews below, then go vote in our Krajowe Eliminacje 2016 poll too, so that you can have your say on Margaret and all of the competing entries.
Margaret – “Cool Me Down”
“Cool Me Down” reviews
Robyn: This sounds like Bebe Rexha’s part from David Guetta’s “Hey Mama”, stretched and padded into a three-minute song. But then, that was one of the biggest international hits of 2015, so why not? “Cool Me Down” has a glorious massive pop sound, an instant earworm. It gets a quite repetitive, but I suspect with some bold staging (involving fire and water?) that won’t be an issue. But one questions remains: when performing live, will Margaret be able to replicate the intense vocal energy of the studio version?
Score: 7.5/10
Deban: “Cool Me Down” is a Scandi-pop hybrid of Rihanna and Kesha at their very best. Lyrically the song is on point, whilst its parent sound pulses over an infectious diffraction of modern beats. As an entry, this “gets” airplay, TV and every other contemporary audio-visual medium. With bad-ass choreography in tow, “Cool Me Down” could easily clinch victory both at the national selection, and at the mother contest. The only concern here is Margaret’s live vocals.
Score: 9/10
Luis: Margaret is probably my favourite Polish artist, and “Cool Me Down” is just superb. Make all the Bebe Rexha/David Guetta/Rihanna comparisons you want: it might sound like them, but I just need something like this at Eurovision. It’s a total rush. Margaret hits you with all her fierceness and you can’t resist her. Of course, I’m in fear that everything won’t be as amazing in the live performance. But if it is, Poland’s got it. Start looking for flights to Warsaw in May 2017.
Score: 10/10
David: This has a great beat and gets you moving. It’s also a little bit different and the voters tend to reward that. So by any measure, a good entry. Any yet I didn’t like it that much. It’s sort of on the edge of being something just making a lot of noise. It isn’t that, but it comes close to being so.
Score: 7/10
Marek: There’s no need to beat around the bush, Margaret is already the winner of Krajowe Eliminacje. “Cool Me Down” is a wonderful song with an energetic chorus which, I hope, will lead Poland to its first win. The only problem is her voice. We know it’s fantastic in the studio, but sometimes she has problems with it when she sings live. She seems a bit shy, especially when she sings in English. But I already know Poles like the song very much: a few minutes ago, I heard “Cool Me Down” playing at a local shop. We’ve got huge hopes. She just has to put all the effort she can in to the performance. All I can say is good luck and don’t be shy!
Score: 10/10
Chris: This was a song made to win Eurovision. There’s absolutely no doubt about that: the team behind it includes Arash and Linnea Deb. It’s cool, it’s fresh and yet it doesn’t try to be a Eurovision winner, in the likes of say “Only Teardrops“. An instant crossover hit to radio, I genuinely believe that if this goes to Eurovision — and so long as Margaret can wholly commit when performing it live — this would go straight to number one across Europe. Near enough to pop perfection.
Score: 9.5/10
Antranig: “Cool Me Down” is a lyrical masterpiece. Lyrically, it’s one of my favourite songs ever — so fierce and catchy. Margaret’s voice is exceptional, the composition is extraordinary and this has Eurovision winner written all over it. Poland’s odds have quite rightly shortened since this was released. I’m running out of superlatives to describe this song. Perfection!
Score: 10/10
Jason: “Cool Me Down” is an utterly infectious summery pop stomper, performed by the superb Margaret. Casual Eurovision viewers only hear songs once or twice, and after one listen to this they will be hooked. With an inventive stage show, “Cool Me Down” has the potential to make a massive impact in Stockholm and give Poland its first ever win. Is it too early to say Warszawa 2017?

Margaret poorly sang on the preselection see on YouTube. Falsified, he did not follow the music. Michael Starling won fairly. Sam voted for him. He was the best. We will win the next one Michael Eurovision in Poland.

Where is MARGARET??? Disgrace! In Poland, the rigged the results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Plagarism on “hey mother” by david guetta
Hi! Polish people, if you don’t choose this track you’re going to make a huge mistake.. let’s go Margaret!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She can sing live…

I hope, she will win tomorrow @
Looks like everyone forgot that last year’s winner was a TOTAL rip-off. ‘Heroes’ was literally taken from Guetta. ‘Cool Me Down’ may sound like something you’ve heard on the radio lately, but definitely isn’t a direct copy.
Personally, I love it. Dunno about the live performance, I’m talking about the studio version.
It’s good.
But Latvia are better
Deban: Glenn Medeiros scored four weeks at number 1 in the UK in july 1985.
Hmmm… Im from Ukraine. I like Margaret a lot, but her live performance its bad.. very very bad. I heard that it was something wrong with sound in studio but when I fond perfomances of another singers by teg Kto na Eurowizj?? on youtube I saw a good performance with a very good voices… and no troubles with sound. Just bad song. I was surprised with Kasia Mo? very strong voice. I realy hope Margaret will fix this awful mistake! P.S. another entries I foud there https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL32Kj234M5k_-JBKbhlGRbU1GrALerncu Why wiwi comments the audio and not this live videos? It was hard… Read more »
This is so incredibly good, if Poland doesn’t pick her they’re making a HUGE mistake. This stuff could chart even in the US!
Warsaw 2017?
Rihannah wannabe with a VERY weak voice, i saw several “Live” clips on youtube and in all video’s she sings bad and with a weak voice, this girl cannot sing at all, i’m wondering why she is so famous in Poland?
@Joaquin: This. I might not agree with everything that the people at Wiwi say, but their opinion is a matter of their tastes, and that there is subjective. Who can say what’s good and bad for definite? It’s a bit pretentious to assume that we can control what people relate to and what they don’t. Not to mention that when addressing a critique/review, always focus on the song and perhaps talk about the things they didn’t address. There’s no need to result in petty insults to get your point across. (Also, just to add, don’t give people crap because they… Read more »
@EugeneESCUK
I Think we all have a right to have our own opinions and review songs – not necessarily in a professional way so saying that It’s not Andraig’s thing to be a music reviewer sounds rude and patronising don’t you think? But that’s typically English (not saying British on purpose here).
Unimpressed…it definitely sounds like Rihanna.
I have no problem at all with the abundant repetition of “cool me down” because the first half of each line is different and as a result, the song doesn’t come across as repetitive at all.
The sheer level of snobbery in the comments is beyond astounding. Margaret’s team has produced a modern, radio-friendly song. So why the hate? It’s time that countries pull their heads out of their ass and take the contest seriously. I’m genuinely sick and tired of outdated ballads and uptempo pop songs. We need something new. We need something modern. We need Margaret. If you don’t like it, then get over it.
REALLY catchy song. With a good performance this might get far.
Ps. Don’t you think it would be cool if Poland (Cool Me Down) and Norway (Icebreaker) got a performance spot next to each other!
The chorus is like a mix of Zara Larsson – Lush Life and David Guetta’s Hey Mama feat. Nicki Minaj..
No more than 5/10…
Overrated. It’s good, but 10 out of 10?
@AndersP: This video explains the basic origins of “on fleek,” here: http://youtu.be/6DYIP36ahD4
🙂
A Swedish team was asked to deliver a Rihanna-like song and of course, as Swedes do, they delivered an earworm. On record it works, live it doesn’t seem to fit the singer. Eva Simons and Zara Larsson do the European Rihanna thing better.
Can’t undestand why this song is so overrated
Any song that use the word “fleek” forfeits it’s right to be called a lyrical masterpiece. And the accent… what’s going on?
You’re so right, Andrew. It doesn’t mean anything. Actually, I think, I just made up the word… Or you can ask Taylor Swift, she kinda made a song about haters. Good night.
Ooo – I’m loving the divided opinion over this song! 🙂 The genre is carribean-based (with a reggae beat) but with the added gloss of pop music. Granted, it repeats “cool me down” 26 times, and yes it’s autotuned, and it’s got an “uh-uh-uh-oh” hook in the chorus, but it is also pop perfection. There is not a single rhythm or lyric out of place in this song. It pulls the listener along naturally – that would earn the song extra marks from juries. Obviously all of the perfection of this recording is worth nothing if Margaret cannot perform live;… Read more »
9.46? It’s good, but not 9.46.
I can’t see this bringing Eurovision to Poland.
All right! Now with the poles would raise money for bets. In the end, the song will not be included in the top 10.
I honestly don’t get the good reviews, I listened to it without knowing it will compete for Poland, without knowing it has any link to Eurovision, and to me it sounded just like any generic summer anthem you’ll hear around Europe and nothing else. Sorry, but this is nowhere near pop perfection and the lyrics are just as shallow as the composition. I don’t want to seem salty, but taken out of the contest, this is just another bidimensional song made for the radio that doesn’t bring anything interesting to the table, regardless of the names of the songwriters. It… Read more »
The sonng sounds very autotuned..
By the way @Iberian how does having a negative opinion make someone a ‘hater’? What is a hater anyway? It doesn’t mean anything! Am sure people don’t stomp around all day ‘hating’. Maybe they just don’t like a few things!
Very overated. Heard it all before, and it’s very repetitive! We get it girl, nothing can cool you down. It would be AMAZING if at the end of the song someone walks on stage with a bucket of cold water and chucks it over her. In fairness it’s not that bad, I just tend to not get drawn into the hype of Eurovision favourites. There are usually far more interesting entries.
So overrated, the songs so boring.
I don’t get the hype… Apparently I am the only one who is bothered by how many times she repeats ‘…cool me down’, to the point when I can’t hear any other words! For this reason alone, I can’t stand it! But I guess this is my problem…
This song is amazing. If Poland doesn’t send this, then it’s because they don’t want to win. Fingers crossed for Margaret. (And hi to all the haters: go get a life.)
I think the highest ever wiwi jury score was Cyprus JESC 2015 with 9.45!!!! This has beaten out by .01!!!!
Lets see what she brings on Saturday night performancewise, I expect something sexy, not as obvious as My Slowiane 2 years ago but indeed more Rhianna, dancing kinda style with background dancers.
It’s very catchy!
Please vote for her Poland, if so u have options for being the host in 2017
There are amateur videos of aforementioned live, and it’s totally better – the sound is better nad Margaret sings better. Unfortunately It’s still not the studio version’s vocals…
Lyrical masterpiece? Lol sure, whatever you say. You can’t expect credibility after publishing that sentence.
Maybe you think that this is new and fresh in ESC, because in the past no one presented similar things in this contest? Maybe this is true, but why? Because these craps always losing in the national selections! This is whole truth!
Margaret is crude. Eurovision is much more serious game than you think. At this moment odds do not matter! This just the beginning!
Are you kids? Your reviews are based on childish delusions! This is not Junior Eurovision! Even there the winner was Maltese Aretha Franklin!
@Chris – Mustelmat getting a 9.7 was ridiculous.
Margaret on the otherhand, wins Eurovision if she can deliver this live. It is that simple and the song is that good.
Love the song so much but honestly it’s not going to win. I can’t even see her in the top 10, unless she got a killer performance. Let’s just wait and see, I’ll keep my fingers crossed!
Lends itself to some great staging imagery. If she can generate vocal energy it’s a HOT gave. But can she deliver? Watch on Saturday!
WARSAW 2017!!!!!!!!
Ridiculous that this song would get the same placing as songs like Euphoria and Fairytale according to the bookies. I can’t see this winning at all, but ey, who am I 😛
