When the team from wiwibloggs launched wiwivision 2016 – our alternative song contest – on June 6, we hoped for a little pick-me-up from post-Eurovision depression. But thanks to y’all we practically eliminated PED completely – result! Over 10,000 votes were cast across two semi-finals and a further 5,720 votes were added in the grand final. Now it’s time to reveal the winner. Remember, the result is a mixture of a jury vote and a public vote. The first 50% is awarded by 42 members of the Wiwi Jury in a manner similar to Eurovision, while the remaining points are allocated proportionally based on the reader poll. Without further ado, I hand you over to William and Deban as they guide y’all through the results show.
What song will join Ireland’s Markus Feehily and “Love Is A Drug” in the wiwivision hall of fame? Hit play and find out!

James, I don’t know about you, but I found those statements very corny and even as they were making me stupid. “Anything could happen” – no it can’t! It is still very exciting and not stupid at all if you do this: with two countries remaining, you emphasise that if Australia wins public votes, along with top jury votes it makes them a winner, and then announce 2nd and 1st place in short amount of time. Again, see the Melodifestivalens – I felt excitement watching it even though the winner was known right away – and the show didn’t make… Read more »
@NomenNescio
I think they were well aware of that, and there was a bit of humor there. It happened a lot in previous Eurovisions (before they started announcing well before the end) that the hosts would keep saying anything could happen, or is it enough to win, when it was blatantly obvious who had won.
There’s no fun in announcing the winner until the very end even if it’s become obvious.
One small tip…
“Will Australia get enough points to beat Denmark?”
Well, if they already won the judges vote and they are about to get the highest points from the televote, there’s no way they could end any lower!
(Check some video of, from example, Melodifestivalen 2015 or 2012, where they immediately announce the winner because the winner is clear even before the points are added.)
Boring winner xD Ukraine underrated :'( I’m happy for Albania and Lithuania though 🙂
Thx to Deban and William, and all WIWI team for this alternative contest. Good job you’ve done… thx for all this discovering!!!
Australia wins, not a real surprise, the song is so AMAZING, even if my chouchou (in french yes, yes, yes!!!) was Spain. But Delta Goodrem is a very talented singer, and musician… a real SHOW WOMAN!!!
I may have now my Wiwi post depression…
Big Kisses to Wiwiteam, especially William and Deban who makes me so laugh.
See you soon

Australia isn`t my favourite, my favourite is Russia but I respect results:) Leningrad is amazing band:)
Australia was definitely the best, glad they finally came out on top. The jealously over Australia is annoying, they send strong entries and get good results not rocket science. This whole EBU pushing Australia is annoying, even without juries Australia has ranked both times in the top 10.
Dami lost out because she doesn’t “look european” and was in the middle of bickering countries. But nevertheless, she came and brought the house down with her entry.
Wow! So happy for Australia! I was rooting for Denmark all the way until it was announced 4th in televote, when it became obvious Australia would win. So happy Denmark got 2nd, you go MØ! What a great Wiwivision all in all, better than the actual Eurovision! I can’t wait to see the semi-final results!!!
Of course Australia wins… I could have told you that even before knowing the song
*I changed my mind about Estonia, it is a tie between Wiwivision 2016 and 2015
I changed my mind about Estonia, it is a tie.
Albania is the best.. she has the most International success than the other singers on that list
Malta and UK was very similar, but UK reached place 8 and Malta came 17th, so far away from each other. But I am happy with the winner, like last year, it was winner material. However, I thought Norway (my 25th) was overrated and BiH(my 2nd) and Latvia (my 3rd) was underrated. I will now also make wiwivision 2015 vs. 2016 Denmark: 2016 Belgium: 2016 Greece: Both were boring and forgettable (sorry Greece), but I would chose 2016 Russia: 2016 Armenia: Easily 2016 Belarus: 2015 Georgia: 2015 Netherlands: 2016 FYR Macedonia: Both were really underrated, and good, maybe 2015. Albania:… Read more »
Poland, Italy and Albania were my faves but at least that horrid Swedish song didn’t win! Most of those songs would flop tragically at the ESC tho nn
Australia won because of the name.. Albania, Sweden and Italy had the biggest hits.
I would love to see Germany higher, (my fav here), and Russia had a great song as well.
My favourites (Albania, Denmark, Spain & Sweden) all finished in the top 6!!!
I told Australia would win since the contestants were revealed, not a surprise! I was expecting also a huge amount of points to Albania and Sweden from the televote, also to Malta. Based in the Polish and Irish televote points, I think is safe to say there has been self-voting. I must say I’m shocked and glad about Spanish 6th position (self-voting too?), but I’m still thinking this song couldn’t take the same success in Eurovision. I’m not pleased at all with the results because any of the songs I voted for has made it into the Top 10… Lithuania… Read more »
Norway deserved to win but people in Europe love Australia. Denmark is too high and Ireland is underrated.
OMG Edd was so cute
Love this song!! Winning material!
Do they follow the official Eurovision rules regarding the release date of the songs? If so, Delta would be disqualified 😛
Juries hate Poland even here. It is boring to see WEstern countires in top.
My favourite in esc was Bulgaria and they were 4th – my favourite in wiwi is Albania and they came 4th! Nice!
Good Job Guys
Finally!!! Congrats Australia!
