The grand final of Australia’s National Rugby League is arguably the biggest annual sporting event in Australia.
And on Sunday the event — held inside Sydney’s ANZ Stadium in front of 83,625 excited fans — got even more exciting as it included performances from Australian Eurovision stars Dami Im and Jessica Mauboy. This is the Super Bowl of Australia — and that makes our leading ladies celebrities akin to Lady Gaga and Beyoncé!
Dami performed the national anthem “Advance Australia Fair,” while Jess provided the pre-game entertainment.
Jessica Mauboy
The “Sea of Flags” singer teamed up with Australian music legend Keith Urban to perform his song “The Fighter”.
Ravishing and ready to rock, Jess slipped into a red silk trousers and blouse co-ord, which featured a plunging neckline that showed off her stunning décolletage.
She performed less than an hour before the game kicked off. She didn’t just warm up the audience. She made them burn!
Dami Im
Australia’s most recent Eurovision star Dami Im had the honour of performing the Australian national anthem for one of the most-watched events on the Australian calendar.
Keeping it pure and simple, Dami wore an all-white outfit from designer Carla Zampatti, which consisted of white trousers and a sexy top with a low-cut neckline and billowing sleeves.
The “Sound of Silence” singer nailed it sartorially and vocally, managing to keep her cool even as the massive audience sang somewhat out of sync with the music.
The NRL Grand Final pitted the Melbourne Storm against the Cronulla Sharks.
The Sharks won the game by 14 points to 12, winning the competition for the first time in 50 years.
The annual game is watched by millions of people across Australia and broadcast internationally and almost surely helped Dami and Jessica reach new fans.
Someone essentially help to make seriously posts I would state. This is the first time I frequented your website page and thus far? I amazed with the research you made to make this particular publish incredible. Magnificent job!
Has anyone mentioned in the comments yet how the NRL Grand Final is second-tier and this article is hugely Sydney-centric? Yes? Good 😉 While it’s a shame that Jess and Dami had to make do with the lesser Grand Final, they did well and it’s nice of them to be included in the 2nd… wait, no, Melbourne Cup… 3rd… wait, no, state of origin… 4th… Australian open… 5th biggest sporting even in Australia. Unless it’s an Olympic year. Or Ashes. Or the Commonwealth Games, maybe 😉 Oops got off track. Back to Dami and Jess. Such a shame that they… Read more »
The NRL is definitely a much bigger deal in New South Wales – though we had an interesting situation of a Sydney team vs a Melbourne team in both grand finals this year!
yasssssss goo dami she looks amazing! 😀 and sounds amazing to
I’m glad there’s such an outpouring to clarify for those outside of Australia the dominance of AFL in our country!
@Pollaski: Nope, not at the same time. One night after the other. AFL is on Saturday, NRL on Sunday. Just recently they made the Friday a public holiday, though that’s for the state of Victoria and I’m not particularly sure about the other states/territories. As most AFL teams are Victorian teams, that’s understandable. We’re pretty crazy about AFL here.
As an Australian I can confirm, the AFL grand final is a bigger sporting event. Rugby tends to be taken more seriously in New South Wales and Queensland, and they’re considered outliers for that.
plus grand final

I’m hoping they didn’t run the two games simultaneously. It sounds cool to be able to watch two major championship games back to back.
I’m more of an American football guy (especially college, which puts the NFL to shame), but I’ve always enjoyed watching rugby. Haven’t had too much experience with Aussie Football yet though, although from what I’ve seen its an insane sport.
lol yeah afl dominates over nrl
The NRL puts the AFL to SHAME, by not using Australian talent and Dami I’m nailed it.
Jesicca was OK only. and I wish Dami had sang in the prelude entertainment she nailsit every time.
Watched the Bull sisters, thankyou for your rendition of our National anthem, but is sounded Karioke to me.
NRL isn’t even the sporting event of the weekend! The AFL Grand Final is the Super Bowl of Australia – it had double the NRL’s TV audience and 16,000 more spectators present.
And Vika and Linda Bull nailed the anthem at the MCG on Saturday. Maybe we can send the Bull sisters to Kyiv?
