They’re the country who recently won Eurovision but haven’t managed to make the final in the past two years. This Thursday Danish broadcaster DR will announce the ten artists competing in Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2017. And unlike in previous years, the 2017 line-up will feature all solo artists.
The decision to have only solo artists for 2017 has long been rumoured. It follows Denmark’s two most recent DMGP winners, who both failed to qualify for the Eurovision final.
In 2015, teen pop band Anti Social Media placed unlucky 13th in their semi final, while last year the mature boy band Lighthouse X came second to last in their semi-final.
DR’s entertainment manager Jan Lagermand Lundme is so confident in the 2017 line-up that he expects Denmark to reach the final in Kyiv. He explains, “I am grateful that the ten soloists are so good, because without them you could dream so many dreams about moving on. But with the ten, we can not do better.”
The scheduled announcement makes a change from recent years when the DMGP line-up has been leaked ahead of time. In 2015, fans who had preordered the official DMGP CD were sent it two days prior to the planned reveal date. And last year songs were released on Spotify almost three weeks early.
DR will present the ten finalists in a special press conference at 13:00 CET on Thursday 19 January.
The grand final of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix will be held in Jyske Bank Boxen Arena, Herning on 25 February. The show will be hosted by returning host Annette Heick and Lighthouse X singer Johannes Nymark.
I want Denmark in the Eurovision song contest went to Simone. I expect her powerful song. Simone has a great voice. I love you, Denmark! I love you, Simone .
I hope Anja comes back soon! She has a killer voice and has a great shot of reaching the top 10 at least, go Danish Aussies!
im still TRAUMATISED by Simone not getting picked last year – its time to redeem yourself Denmark!
Danish people have same problem as Finns. They have good songs, like Suitcase and Never Alone, but they don’t choose them.
Anne Gadegaard, ANJA NISSEN, and Emmelie De Forest please.
Please Denmark!
The Way You Are is the best ESC song ever.
DMGP is always a great show, the Danish viewers just have picked bad songs in the last two years. I hope they’ll be able to improve this year though. Can’t wait to hear the songs.
Last year’s entry was okay but not the kind of song that was gonna bring Denmark back to the finale if it didn’t have a very convincing over-all live performance.
That and the staging (or lack thereof) that the Danish delegation didn’t bother changing after Danish Melodi Grand Prix. All I saw were three guys nearly standing for three minutes while holding their mic stands singing before doing the big climax of them actually walking around the stage.
Nope: Denmark will take three of the finalists and turn them into a boyband.
WHO cares??? they will have a strong lineup, but pick some losers as usual!!
If Anne Gadegaard, Emmelie de Forest, and Anja Nissen don’t the show up on the list of candidates, I have no choice but to explode. 🙁
I want to see an ARTIST this time around for Denmark. Sys Bjerre? Marie Key?
Also, Wiwibloggs should make an article pointing out that Denmark has been sending the same guitar-driven song since 2008 (with only a doo-wop break in 2014). Seriously, their entries have been so similar!
I hope they’ll find their spark again. Denmark has turned in one of my least favorite esc countries the last few years.
The problem wasn’t that they were boy-bands, the problem was the songs. To bland and unremarkable to get anywhere. That was the problem all of the chosen songs.
That’s the issue. Doesn’t matter if it’s solo acts, 10 bland unremarkable songs to choose from will still be a non-finalist at the end of the day.
Last year’s song wasn’t that bad but unfortunately, the problem with Denmark is that although they pick bland, boy-bandy songs that are mostly inoffensive, the last two years, this has come at the expense of some seriously good songs.
Regardless of whether all of the contestants are solo vocalists, at this point, I do not trust Denmark to choose the right song.
I want Simone back! But she will probably participate again in 2019…
And please, no more stupid decisions!
I hope that Anne Gadegaard does DMGP again! I loved her 2015 entry and it would be really nice for her to give it another try.
