Latvia’s Supernova 2018 may be taking the award for longest selection of the year, y’all! It was back in October that we first heard the entries during the public jury. Since then, we’ve had insider juries, live auditions and even more judging!
At the start of December, we learned the names of the 21 acts who had made the semi-finals. And over the last few weeks, the final versions of these songs have slowly come online.
All 21 are now finally available, either on YouTube or on Spotify. So we have to ask y’all: who’s your favourite?

I’m for Markus Riva. The song is really very beautiful. I’m thinking this is the most suitable song for Eurovision.
I agree. Markus Riva has charisma and the voice. He was my favorite to win in 2015, even if Aminata was great too. In following years, he kind of makes a “Brooke Borg effect” with each of his songs being the weaker rehash of the previous one. He needs to take a step back, make a layered creative process and come-up with something that will make him shine at ESC, because he needs to do it one day. This Time is a middle of the road song, mostly getting points for Mr. Riva’s charisma.

Obviously something is wrong here. When I first checked the poll, like an hour after it was published, it already had a considerable amount of votes and Markus Riva was nowhere near the top. “Esamiba” was the clear favourite.
It’s also weird to me that this post has more than 100 comments already, and so many Markus fan girls/boys.

Actually, he was second, after Esamiba. Then, it escalated quickly for him to get such a huge margin. Fans massively vote based on his name. I am not a big fan of his song, but I guess it’s okay.

I liked the song of Markus Riva – this time! very cool !!! He must go to Eurovision THIS TIME and no one else!
Really great selection in Supernova this year. Hard to pick a winner. I think any one of Markus Riva, Edgars Kreilis or Katrine Lukins would have a great chance of getting to the Eurovision Grand Final with their songs.
There are about five other songs that I personally like but do not see winning such as Kris And Oz or Lauris Valters and some hyped-songs that I think Latvia should avoid like Madara’s, Agnese Stengrevics’ and Laura Rizzotto’s.
Regardless, this is one of the national selections to watch, this year!
I truly loved 12 of their songs, and as 11 did not make it to this stage, I have one clear winner before my eyes: Intoxicating Caramel. There are plenty of other good songs (and 3 really, really horrible), so I guess Latvia could finish high on my toplist anyway, but I want so much intoxicating scent to send wild flashes right in my prudence <3
Ahahahaha. Markus Riva is not winning. Not saying song is bad. This might be his best song so far. But there are far better songs out there.
I think after these spambots that voted for Riva, twitter bots, who will spam in Russian to vote for this guy and asking on Facebook to vote for him, he should be disqualfied from the Supernova.
I’m being contrarian again but Just Fine and Sunset are my faves and I hope they make it to the final… of supernova
While I think this year’s Supernova is worse than the past year’s ones, there are some songs I like: 1. Sudden Lights – “Just Fine” (9/10). I absolutely love this. I love these kind of songs and their meaning, and this isn’t an exception. I hope it could be longer and not just 2.31. I’m also in love whit “Eyes”, another Sudden Lights songs that didn’t make the cut. I wish “Just Fine” reachs the final and goes to Lisbon, thought that’s really difficult. 2. It’s not surprising that there are so many votes for Markus Riva, because the track is very cool, who has a rumor immediately appreciates, has a big fan base and is always active! The main problem with Markus’s is that he NEVER advertise himself on media in Latvian or English, but only Russian, and then he wishes to be the 1st at the Supernova. Like why? Most of the Latvians doesn’t even know he exists. ?

I’m a Swedish – Latvian guy born in Riga. I asked alot of my friends, what do you think about Markus Riva aka Mikelis Laksa. Most of them said “who the f. is he?” Same situation is that his Latvian songs are so outdated and sound like Russian average ballads, no one listens to them. Plus check out Latvian Spotify Top 50 and Latvian Radio’s after the Supernova – No Markus Rivas.
Plus what kind of avard he’s gonna recieve? If that’s another Russian crap award, i’m out.

Sorry, Markus Riva fangirls, but no! I still think his best year was 2015, and this year it’s just not wow or anything in particular!
Favorites for me are Esam?ba, 100 Roses, You Are My World and 1000 Roses, which seems particularly sweet for me. The best option would still be Esam?ba – there’s originality, talent, possible wow factor and a chance to finally showcase some Latvian in a more tasteful fassion than in 2004.

Markus Riva is clearly superior in this selection. His song is Billboard Top 40 material and would surely do really well at Eurovision. Latvia should be proud to have him as their entry. If you don’t hear it, you should probably get your ears checked.
