It was the end of Gaia Cauchi‘s X Factor UK journey last night. The Maltese star’s girl group Sweet Sense was sent home by Robbie Williams from the Judges Houses round. But there’s tabloid speculation that a rift had developed within the group.
The Groups category flew out to Beverley Hills, California, where Robbie Williams was joined by Britain’s Got Talent judge David Walliams. Each of the six groups performed in front of the two showbiz professionals.
Sweet Sense — made up of Junior Eurovision winner Gaia Cauchi, along with Kezia Povey, Ellie Grand and twin sisters Billie and Charlie Thompson — performed One Direction’s 2015 single “History”.
Once the group had left, the two judges discussed Sweet Sense’s performance. Walliams praised their vocals, but Williams noted that “There was a bit of looking at each other nervously, which might be a problem.”
Unlike in previous years, where only three acts from each group have made it to the live shows, this year four of the six in each category will go through. But unfortunately, Sweet Sense were not one of the lucky four.
The final two groups to be told their fate were Sweet Sense and boy band Vibe 5 — both of which had been put together at the Six Chair Challenge. Robbie Williams praised the girl group, saying they had “Super personalities, super powers, super charisma – just like the Spice Girls”.
But that wasn’t quite enough. Williams also remarked that Sweet Sense’s chemistry was “not 100%”. In the end, the final place in the live shows went to Vibe 5, with Sweet Sense being sent home.
Rumours of a chemistry issue within Sweet Sense had surfaced earlier in the UK tabloid press. A source told the Daily Star that despite Sweet Sense giving a strong performance at the Six Chair Challenge, “cracks emerged soon after arriving at Robbie’s house”.
The paper claimed a rift had developed in the group. Gaia, Ellie and Kezia reportedly clashed with twins Billie and Charlie.
But while Gaia is out of this year’s edition of The X Factor UK, there’s no doubt that the talented Maltese singer has a bright future ahead of her.
With Gaia out of the competition, there’s still hope for one more act with a Eurovision past. On tomorrow’s show, Ireland’s Brendan Murray and the rest of the Boys category will fly to Ibiza.
There judge Louis Tomlinson will be joined by ex-One Direction member Liam Payne and legendary music producer Nile Rodgers. They will decide if Brendan is among the four acts who will progress to the live shows.

So a bunch of girls thrown together willy-nilly do not have 100% of chemistry? Go figure.

I mean, the market doesn’t need a copy of Little Mix now especially when they’re set for a #1 debut in the UK charts next week.

Gaia should’ve been alone. The group was nice but they might have put Gaia down. Such a shame. But I think she might try for ESC in 2020 or something, which is very exciting!
