Hungary’s national selection A Dal 2019 kicked off tonight, with six acts qualifying for the semi-finals. Gergő Szekér, Gergő Oláh, Timi Antal feat. Gergő Demko, Konyha, Nomad and DENIZ will be heading to the semi-finals in February.
The first five qualifiers were determined by a combination of televote and an expert jury made up of A Dal jury regulars Magnun Cum Laude lead singer Misi Mező and award-winning performer and composer Miklós Both, while rock legend Feró Nagy, singer-songwriter and former Eurovision jury member Lilla Vincze join the jury this year.
The vote was topped by Gergő Szekér and 2016 finalist Gergő Oláh, who tied with a score of 41 points. Next was Timi Antal feat. Gergő Demko, who followed closely with 39 points. A successful night for all the Gergős!
In fourth place was Konyha who scored 38 points, followed by Nomad in fifth place with 35 points.
The sixth qualifier was selected by a second round of public voting. The public agreed with the results of the first round — the sixth spot went to DENIZ who had also placed sixth in the first round.
The qualifiers will go on to compete in the semi-finals, which start in early February. They’ll be joined by the qualifiers from the other two heats, which will take place in coming weeks.

What do you think of these six qualifiers? Who should make it to the grand final? Have your say in the comments section below!
Night of the Gergos haha Vilagitotorony definitely should have gone through IMO, although he could have performed it better and the emotion wasn’t as great live that listening to the full studio version… But Konyha seemed quite lifeless so I would’ve taken Olivér over them… I’m happy with the rest of the qualifiers though ! Deniz were great (especially Reni, the singer) and they’ll probably go to the final with the televoting round in the semi, but no way they’ll win A Dal with this jury. Gergö Olah had a great performance which really made his song come to life… Read more »
So I was right? That’s new for me.
Am I the only one who is blown away by Olah Gergo?! His voice is amazing and the song is so beautiful! I can’t stop listening to that song!
“Világítótorony” should have qualified! (sad face)
Thankfully, Gerg? Szekér is through. I’m also happy about DENIZ, I like that one. The rest, I’m not a fan.
Albanian Jury: We just kicked out Mirud! We’re the worst!
Hungarian Jury: hold our collective beer
I’m so annoyed Vilagitotorony is gone. It’s my top song of the ESC season so far, and it’s gone.
Your last sentence is me all over right now. I’m kind of heartbroken 🙁
You’re not alone. Haven’t felt this bad since…..Err….Albania!
I feel that the A DAL jury DONT want Hungary to ever win ESC. I have had that feeling a couple of years now. Maybe the broadcaster told them that they have to vote off the strongest songs. It seems fishy every year they do that.
Sad for Oliver, happy for Deniz
;/
I’m disappointed with results. Oliver didn’t qualify what a shame. Jury is awful. Now let yesyes to win the whole thing.
“Frida” and “Lighthouse” gone already. My two faves, damn. “Incomplete” is the only song left that I actually would listen to.
Juries doing it again in Hungary. Deniz and Oliver deserved better.
Sad you can’t win A Dal unless you have the Jury support. It reminds Tamas Horvath with Meggyfa last year when he would have probably won A Dal if it was for the public.
Sooooooooooooo true about that! ??
I was sad at the juries for snubbing Meggyfa last year (srsly? not only his performance was awful :/ )… I don’t know if with these juries this year the song would go to further rounds… :/
About this year: I still somehow hope USNK won’t go further (they’re horrible live and the song is meh even in this kind of stuff) , I know Hungary can do nice with modern-sounding rap, but not that… I prefer Roses, even if I’m not so fond of it… (but that’s just my opinion)
Congrats Gergo Szeker! Very deserved joined heat win! Stunning song and yes, my fav of A-Dal! 🙂 🙂
Also congrats to Konyha (even though I felt a bit underwhelmed by the live performance) and Deniz (even though they qualified only through public, which is a bad sign for two next stages they have to go through).
That said, a sad bye to my beloved Frida and Lighthouse. Both at 9/10 will remain among my favorite NF songs and remembered on my NF list. 🙁
Colin, I love how you can always see the positive in life. And I envy that ability right now. Love x
Easier to be positive when your favourite wins. 😉
Awww… thanks. You maybe wouldn’t believe me, but I am often the nostalgic, depressing one. True what Briekimchi says, Szeker winning was something I was looking forward to. I try to stay positive, even though there are also things I would fix asap.
No Oliver or Rozina? What went wrong?!?
Just went to watch their performances…I can understand Rozina not qualifying, but Oliver?? Come on, he was great! This jury needs to gooo
Well… This went wrong. Hungary, please fix this.
Can’t believe I woke up to such nonsense!
The juries exhibiting trash taste already by trying to eliminate Deniz and Olivér, two of the public’s favorites and mine as well. Hungarian people complain about them all the time but guess what, they’re there exposing their lack of taste every. single. year. with their decision making up for 80% of the result. I am disgusted.
They’re just out of touch and musically narrow-minded.
Those were the two best acts!!!
